SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: The Sacrament of Baptism is administered most Sundays at 11:30 a.m. Arrangements are made in advance at the Rectory. Sponsors must provide proof of eligibility by a letter from their respective Pastors. First time parents attend a Pre-Jordan Meeting prior to Baptism, which is arranged at a mutually convenient time. SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE: Arrangements must be made with the Pastor at least six months before the date of the Wedding. Pre-Cana instructions are required. 3 BACK TO PREP PARENT MEETING SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18 TH AFTER THE 10:30 MASS To our Volunteers who made the Fall Kick-Off a success! Additionally, we thank Brown s ShopRite and the Bala Acme for their generous donations. Our annual Eucharistic Devotions last week were a beautiful way to honor our Eucharistic Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament. Those who attended were enriched by our celebration of Evening Prayer and the words offered by Father Quan Tran. Thank you to all who came, those who assisted in the liturgies and Eucharistic procession, and those who helped with the Cider Social following the procession. Are you interested in becoming Catholic? Are you an adult Catholic who was never confirmed? Would you like to learn more about the Faith? This month we will be starting a series of sessions to explore our Catholic Faith. If you are interested in learning more about these classes, please contact Msgr. Mesure. Also, if you know anyone in your family or the neighborhood who might be interested, please encourage him or her to attend. My Experience Singing At the Festival Of Families When I first found out that the Pennsylvania Girl Choir and Keystone State Boy Choir would be singing at the Festival of Families I was so excited! The opportunity to sing for Pope Francis at this event would be a dream come true! Unfortunately 192 young singers signed up and there were only 65 spots available. We had to go through several evaluations before me and 64 other members of the Common Wealth Youth Choirs were chosen to sing with Columbian superstar Juanes Juntos! Being involved in this truly special event was so amazing and I will remember and cherish this memory for the rest of my life. - Angelina DeMonte RESPECT LIFE BABY BOTTLE DRIVE St. Matthias Parish will be participating in a Baby Bottle Drive for the Mothers Home in Darby, PA. Please take a bottle and fill it with your donation of cash, coins or checks and return it to the special baskets in the church vestibules. (This would be a fun project for the children in the family!) Mothers Home is a maternity shelter for women ages 18 and older. The shelter provides a safe, secure environment for the moms and their babies, who come from a variety of situations: homelessness, family indifference or domestic violence. For me that will happen on December 31, I am retiring from Saint Matthias on that date. It will bring to a close nearly 18 years of service to Saint Matthias and 45 years working in the Archdiocese. As I prepare to leave I am filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude. I am grateful for all your kindness to me, for your help these many years, and for your prayers. Your dedication to Saint Matthias parish has been an inspiration to me. In the Letter to the Philippians, St. Paul states, I thank my God every time I think of you. I will have plenty of time, now, to do this. Though I will miss the daily routines of my work at Saint Matthias, I will remain a member of this wonderful parish and will be praying with you and for you. God bless you and THANK YOU! St. Vincent de Paul Society St. Matthias Church Conference Seeking NEW MEMBERS: Meetings are held once per month. Answer the call from Pope Francis to help others in need. 5 Second Collection Next Sunday: World Missions Next weekend we celebrate World Mission Sunday. It is a reminder that the work of building up the Church around the world is not just for select missionaries. We all have a role to play in spreading the Gospel to the entire world. Saint Matthias Youth Group (grades 7 to 12) meets Sundays from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the Parish Center. We learn more about our Catholic Faith, share meals together, participate in community service, and enjoy other fun activities. The Saint Matthias Rosary Group prays for the intentions of our Parishioners after every daily Mass. The Intention Book is located in the back of Church. CASSEROLES FOR SAINT JOHN S HOSPICE We are grateful to those who make casseroles, freeze them in foil pans (pans & recipes available in the church vestibules), then place them in the gym lobby on the morning of the third Monday of each month. Saint John's Hospice seeks to be a community grounded in faith and service where homeless men find dignity, respect, nourishment, and opportunities for new beginning. The hospice is in dire need of additional casseroles each month as the number of homeless men served has increased over the past years. Will you lend a hand by feeding the hungry? Our Lady of Guadalupe, who appeared to Juan Diego in 1531, and whose shrine in Mexico City attracts more pilgrims than anywhere in the world, is also honored especially because this community of Visitation Nuns was originally founded in Mexico by Sisters from the Visitation Convent in Mobile, Alabama. He saw strong families as the foundations of his parish, of the Church, and of society at large. His vision of an organization of Catholic men came to light on March 29, 1882, when the Knights of Columbus was chartered at St. Mary s Church in New Haven, CT. The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic, Family, and Service Organization built on the principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. Its main purpose is to strengthen parish life, support the Church, and provide an organization where families can join together to share their beliefs, build family relationships, and make a difference in their life and the lives of others.
