Please contact the Rectory, since hospitals do not contact the Rectory. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: The Sacrament of Baptism is administered most Sundays at 11:30 a.m. Arrangements are made in advance at the Rectory. Sponsors must provide proof of eligibility by a letter from their respective Pastors. First-time parents attend a Pre-Jordan Meeting prior to Baptism, which is arranged at a mutually convenient time. SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE: Arrangements must be made with the Pastor at least six months before the date of the Wedding. Pre-Cana instructions are required. 3 Dear Parishioners, Last weekend I spoke at all of the Masses about House Bill This is a terrible bill that has already been passed in the PA House of Representatives and could be brought before the PA Senate at any time. We all certainly recognize that the church has an ongoing responsibility to the survivors of clergy sexual abuse. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia and other dioceses in the state have dedicated great resources to providing this assistance. In addition, the Catholic Church is now second to none in her efforts to provide a safe environment for young people. The problems with HB 1947 are many. Most notably it does not treat victims of abuse equally. The bill s retroactive extension of the civil statute of limitations applies only to private and religious groups, but not to public schools and other government entities. Even going forward HB 1947 protects the public schools and other government institutions with very low caps on any damages they would have to pay victims of abuse. Meanwhile private and religious groups face unlimited liability. Also, HB 1947 places a far greater burden of proof on the victims of abuse from public schools and other government institutions. This is unjust. Please see the insert in today s bulletin for more information. You cannot rely upon the newspaper and many other media outlets to give you a fair account of this bill. It should surprise no one these days that the media often has its own agenda. If you have not already done so please go to for more information and for assistance in contacting your state representatives. Again, my point is in no way is intended to minimize the great evil of sexual abuse and the ongoing obligation that the church has to help victims of clergy sexual abuse. HB 1947, however, is seriously flawed and fundamentally unjust. Fr. Mesure We are delighted to share the following Good News that we received about some of our parishioners. Congratulations and God bless you! Brandon Artman recently completed his second year of theological studies (4 th year of formation) at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. He received the Joseph Fricker Award for Excellence in Homiletics, Theology II. He has been assigned for most of the summer to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Morton (Delaware County) for his Acolyte assignment. Pat Ciarrocchi, recently-retired CBS3 Eyewitness News anchor, was the inaugural recipient of the John Cardinal Foley Award for Excellence in Communications, presented by Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in conjunction with World Communications Day. The award is presented to a communications professional whose work exemplifies the positive potential of mass media to inform, instruct, and inspire others in the quest to build a more just world. Pat is shown in the photo with Rev. Thomas Dailey, O.S.F.S., John Cardinal Foley Chair in Homiletics & Social Communications at the Seminary, who presented the award. William Hyland, the Presidential Scholarship recipient to Wake Forest University, was awarded the Ward Virts Prize in piano in the 2016 Christopher Giles and Lucille S. Harris Competition is Musical Performance at Wake Forest. He was also accepted into the Music Academy International s Piano Festival and will be performing in Mezzano, Italy in July. 075 Saint Matthias - 3

Clergy Changes at Saint Matthias Parish Father Sean Bransfield has been assigned as the part-time parochial vicar of Saint Matthias Parish. Father Bransfield will also be working in the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center as Vice-Chancellor and as Assistant to the Vicar for Clergy. Father Branfield was ordained in 2002 and most recently he has served as the Dean of the college division of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. He studied in Rome and has a degree in Canon Law. Father Bransfiled will be arriving on June 20. Please keep him in your prayers and give him a warm welcome to Saint Matthias. On a sad note, we will be losing Father Mariusz of the Oblates of Saint Joseph at the end of July. Father Mariusz has been with us for a year and has been very helpful to the parish. He has been assigned as a pastor. We are very grateful to Father Mariusz for his generous help. Please keep him in your prayers as he moves to his new assignment. Another priest from the Oblates of Saint Joseph, Father Gregory Finn, OSJ, will be arriving in mid-august. Wednesday, June 15, 2016, 7:30 PM Young Professionals Meets the third Wednesday of each month.
