SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: The Sacrament of Baptism is administered most Sundays at 11:30 a.m. Arrangements are made in advance at the Rectory. Sponsors must provide proof of eligibility by a letter from their respective Pastors. First-time parents attend a Pre-Jordan Meeting prior to Baptism, which is arranged at a mutually convenient time. 3 May Procession and Crowning The children of the parish, grades K through 12 will process from the Parish Center to Church today at the 10:30 AM Mass in honor of Our Blessed Mother. The Crowning of Mary will also take place at the 10:30 Mass. Mass of Thanksgiving Archbishop Charles J. Chaput will ordain Brandon M. Artman and his 5 classmates from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia priests at the Cathedral Basilica of Ss. Peter and Paul this Saturday, May 19. Until entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in 2012, Brandon had been the Director of Music/Organist and Director of Parish Services here at Saint Matthias, beginning in He also continues to edit our weekly bulletin. Father Artman will celebrate his Mass of Thanksgiving here at Saint Matthias NEXT Sunday, May 20, the Solemnity of Pentecost, at 3:00 PM. Please arrive early to enjoy prelude music, featuring musicians from the Cathedral, beginning at 2:40 PM. All are invited to attend the Mass and a reception immediately following in Msgr. Noone Hall (the parish gym) to congratulate Father Artman and enjoy light refreshments. Mother s Day Carnations will be available after Masses this weekend. All donations will benefit Mother s House in Upper Darby. CAMP MATTHIAS JUNE 18 30, 2018 Aid for Friends Help serve the isolated homebound of our community by providing home cooked meals. Volunteer cooks should have the willingness to prepare meals or even just cook an extra serving of what you re already preparing for dinner. Please pick up trays (found at the Church doors) and return them (filled and frozen) to the freezer on the Rectory s back porch. Volunteers will deliver the meals. 5 Our Parish Patronal Feast Saint Matthias: Monday, May 14 Saint Matthias, Pray for Us! Not nearly as well-known as any of the others, Matthias was the apostle chosen to replace Judas after he betrayed Jesus. Matthias wasn't chosen by Jesus and isn't even mentioned in the synoptic gospels. Instead, he was chosen by casting lots after Jesus reportedly ascended to heaven. After being chosen, Matthias disappears completely from the New Testament canon and isn't mentioned in any other reliable historical records. CASSEROLES FOR SAINT JOHN S HOSPICE We are grateful to those who make casseroles, freeze them in foil pans (pans & recipes available in the church vestibules), then place them in the gym lobby on the morning of the third Monday of each month: the next pickup is next Monday, May 21 (date on Parish Calendar, May 14, is incorrect). Saint John's Hospice seeks to be a community grounded in faith and service where homeless men find dignity, respect, nourishment, and opportunities for new beginning. The hospice is in dire need of additional casseroles each month as the number of homeless men served has increased over the past years. Will you lend a hand by feeding the hungry, a corporal work of mercy? Many thanks to those who already do, so that the homeless can have a hot meal at Saint John s. A medieval Greek historian claims that Matthias was crucified in Colchis, an area of the Caucauses, but there is no independent evidence of this having really occurred. Another Christian legend claims that Matthias was stoned then beheaded by Jews in Jerusalem. O God, who assigned St. Matthias a place in the college of Apostles, grant us through his intercession, that, rejoicing at how your love has been allotted to us, we may merit to be numbered among the elect. Amen. Young Adult Praise and Worship Evening. June 1 from 6:00 to 8:30 PM at the Miraculous Medal Shrine, 500 E. Chelten Ave., Philadelphia (Germantown). All young adults are invited to Eucharistic Adoration, followed by refreshments and fellowship. Theme: What is God Calling You to Do? 6 Men of Virtue Retreat June at Neumann University, Aston. A new Catholic men s retreat for the Catholic man or any man who is striving for holiness and virtue. We will have fun doing so! Come to learn what your legacy can be and what it means to be a man of virtue. This will be like NO RETREAT you have ever experienced before! All men are welcome. This would be a good retreat for fathers and sons to attend together, but it s also for single men, all men, ages 13 and up. Activities include prayer, softball, and meals. Cost is $99 per person. High school men are invited to gather for this 4-day, 3-night camp with the Philadelphia Seminarians.
