3 Saint Michael the Archangel News Weekly Mass Times. - NO Mass On Monday. The Glenmary Staff will be attending a Glenmary meeting at Toppa Joppa. - Tuesday, Wednesday Mass at 8:30 AM. - Friday Mass at 6 PM for the Vigil Mass of Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. - Saturday Morning Mass at 9 AM for the Holy Day of Obligation Mass for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. *HOLY DAY Obligation on SATURDAY: The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is celebrated this week. The Vigil Mass will be celebrated on Friday evening at 6 PM and Saturday at 9 AM. (The Saturday Evening Mass will be for the Second Sunday of Advent. It does not take the place of the Holy Day Morning Mass. We are obliged to attend either the Friday Vigil Mass or Saturday Morning Mass.) Advent Penance Service. Tuesday evening at 6 PM the Parish will celebrate its annual Advent Penance Service. (Fr. Tom will hear confessions also during the FFM time at 6 PM on Wednesday, Dec. 5. It will be the time for the children and any adults who wish to come.) Kenneth Wandera returns this Wednesday from Mexico and will begin his assignment here at St. Michael the Archangel Parish. Christmas Party. After the 5 PM Mass this Saturday. Parish will hold its annual Christmas Party before many people leave for Mexico. RCIA. Welcome to Victor Luquin who is formally beginning the RCIA process to receive Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation at Holy Saturday night. Boxes for food donations are located in our main entrance. All canned and boxed items are appreciated. Special treat items include canned tuna, dry cereal like Cheerios, canned meats or chili. The Diocesan Office of Marriage Preparation & Enrichment in partnership with St. Mary s Church in Johnson City Family Life Office will offer a one-day divorce healing seminar on Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 8 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This one-day seminar presented by Deacon Walt Otey is an overview of the Journey of Hope program based on the book Divorced. Catholic. Now What? Attendees will view DVD presentation The Voices of Hope, and participate in discussion to lead them through the struggles of divorce. Lunch will be provided. There is no charge to attend. Books will be available for sale. Purchase not required to attend seminar. Childcare is available for a fee. 6 S A C R A M E N T G U I D E L I N E S Baptism: Families must be a part of the parish for at least 3 months prior to requesting Baptism. An instruction for parents and godparents must take place before the Baptism. See Kathy or Fr. Tom to discuss dates for instruction and for Baptism. Andres and Lorena Reynoso will give the instruction. Godparents must be Catholics who are at least 16 years old, be baptized, confirmed, and regularly receiving communion, and if married, must be married in the church with the sacrament of Matrimony. If they are not members of St. Michael, they must have a letter from their pastor stating they are able to be Baptismal sponsors. Reconciliation: Normally children receive this sacrament in the 2nd grade. Children must have been active in the parish for one year prior to receiving this sacrament. Active includes going to Mass and attending FFM classes. Others needing preparation should talk to Kathy or Fr. Tom to arrange for instruction needed through RCIA or other means. A copy of the child s Baptism certificate is needed. First Communion - Children normally prepare for this sacrament in 2nd grade. They must be coming to class and Mass for a year prior to entering the First Communion class. A copy of the child s Baptism certificate is needed. Confirmation: Children must be in FFM for the year prior to Confirmation. Children in 6 th grade will prepare for Confirmation. A copy of your Baptismal certificate is needed. Sponsors must meet same requirements as for Baptism. A few special days of preparation or a retreat are also required. Children older than 6 th grade needing Confirmation will prepare under the guidance of Kathy or another delegated person. Adults needing Confirmation must see Kathy to get enrolled and do some preparation. The Bishop will do adult Confirmations on Pentecost Sunday. 7 D I R E C T R I C E S S A C R A M E N T A L E S Bautismo - Familias deben formar parte de la parroquia durante al menos 3 meses antes de solicitar el Bautismo. Tom or Kathy. They will coordinate contact with Glenmary or the diocese. For girls likewise, please see Fr. Tom or Kathy to get information on religious life.
