OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP DEVOTIONS are conducted every Saturday after the 9:30a.m. Mass at Word of God Parish. The 10 minute devotional concludes with a blessing of the Assembly with the icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The icon shows Mary protecting Jesus with her arms around Him. Her solemn face looks directly at us as the archangel Michael and Gabriel bring the instruments of Christ s crucifixion, a lance, sponge, cross, and nails. Please be sure to place your suggested donation in the money slot on the display so the ministry can be self-supporting. COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY: Collection of food is taken the last Sunday of each month at Word of God Parish (leave donations inside the entrances of the church). Checks should be made out to Swissvale Cares and memo Food Pantry. The Food Pantry is located in the Living Spirit Ministry building on 2011 Noble Street. Food distributions are made the first & third Thursday of each month from 9:00a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Volunteers welcome. EAST CATHOLIC SCHOOL REGISTRATION SCHOOL YEAR: Prospective new families who are interested in learning about our programs from 3-year-old preschool through the 8th grade are welcome to join us and be a part of East Catholic School at 2001 Ardmore Blvd. in Forest Hills. We need about $5,000 to pay for the motor that was installed in the cooling tower. Please place your contribution in an envelope marked Madonna Air Conditioning and place in the collection or mail to the parish. May God bless your generosity. OUR PARISH FESTIVAL: Our Annual Parish Festival is Thursday, July 27th, Friday, July 28th, and Saturday, July 29th. It is a very important fundraiser for our parish. We need the cooperation of the entire parish to make this a success. Anyone wishing to donate the following items for use in the kitchen: Butter/margarine, flour, oil, etc. can drop them off at the social hall or office between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily or call Lois Petrarca at DONATIONS NEEDED FOR FESTIVAL GIFT BASKETS: Preparations have begun for this year s Parish Festival Gift Baskets. If you have any unopened bottles of alcohol or are able to purchase new bottles, please consider donating them for the gift baskets. Donations can be dropped off in the Madonna kitchen after the weekend Mass, or at the Parish Office, Mon. Fri. BAKED GOODS: We also need donations of baked goods. Please drop them off starting Wed., July 26 at Dattilo Hall. Readings for Sunday, July 16 1st Reading: Isaiah 55:10-11.God s word will achieve its intended purpose. 2nd Reading: Romans 8: Man awaits the glory and redemption of their bodies. Gospel Reading: Matthew 13: Jesus tells the crowd the parable of the sower who went out to sow and some seed fell on the path, some on rocky ground, some in the thorns, and others on fertile soil, each resulting in different outcomes. Jesus tells his disciples how these different outcomes can be compared to how people respond to the word of God. Question for reflection: How do you hear and apply God s word in your life?
