2 JULY 9, 2017 Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light. Matthew 11 Dear Parishioners and Friends; Welcome to visiting family and friends from nearby and far away. Summer is a great time to reconnect with people we may not have seen for some time. In Matthew chapter 11 we hear once again the words of our Good Shepherd Jesus who reminds us to turn to him with our troubles and sorrows. In this Year of the Eucharist we can better appreciate the tremendous gift and opportunity we have to receive Jesus Body and Blood into our own bodies and into our own hearts. Let us come to Jesus and find true rest! This past Wednesday we gathered for our annual Anointing of the Sick. This was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate this great Sacrament of Healing. Afterwards we moved to the gym and enjoyed our delicious Strawberry Social. Thanks to the work of our many volunteers with preparation and setup, we shared the joy of a great summer treat. Don't forget to register your child for Vacation Bible School which begins the week of August 7 th. We are still in need of parent volunteers. Lots of fun events are planned! May God bless you! Fr. Gonyo * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * A continuation of Bishop Matano's Pastoral Letter declaring this year The Holy Year of the Eucharist is included below. It will be run in segments over the next several weeks. The full version of his letter may be found online at The Continuation of a Pastoral Letter from The Most Reverend Salvatore R. Matano, Bishop of Rochester When we come to the celebration of Holy Mass or any of the Sacraments with a true spirit of humility and gratitude, it essentially forms our attitude toward the sacramental nature of the Church and, in particular, our reception of the Lord in Holy Communion. Realizing that in the Sacraments, especially in the Eucharist, Jesus becomes one with us, we then approach Him not first asking what is in it for me, but how can I possibly thank the omnipotent God Who has chosen to make His home within me! The Sacraments, the Most Holy Eucharist, belong to God who graciously invites us to participate in His life through these personal meetings with Him. It is truly proper then that the prayers of the Mass authentically, prayerfully and solemnly reflect the divine reality which they signify. Knowing the great love you have for the Mass, a love which I have experienced in my many pastoral visits throughout our Diocese, I know of and appreciate your cooperation with your parish priests and pastoral administrators in this endeavor of faith, which is Christ s salvific work being actualized through His Church. (Cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 1187). This Eucharistic devotion is essential as we constantly seek to nurture, to understand more deeply and to reverence the Real Presence of Christ truly and substantially existing under the appearances of bread and wine. Our 150th anniversary celebration provides the ideal opportunity to renew our participation in and fidelity to the celebration of the Eucharistic sacrifice as a community and as individual participants. Both the 2011 revised General Instruction of the Roman Missal and the previous Instruction, Redemptionis Sacramentum ( The Sacrament of Redemption ), issued by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments on March 25, 2004, echo the Second Vatican Council s Sacrosanctum Concilium (Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, no. 10), and repeat the constant teaching of the Catholic Church, namely that: The Most Holy Eucharist is the most august Sacrament, in which Christ the Lord Himself is contained, offered and received, and by which the Church constantly lives and grows. The Eucharistic Sacrifice, the memorial of the death and resurrection of the Lord, in which the sacrifice of the cross is perpetuated over the centuries, is the summit and source of all Christian worship and life; it signifies and effects the unity of the people of God and achieves the building up of the Body of Christ. (Code of Canon Law, canon 897). To Be Continued...

RITA SCHOOL Spirit of Learning Corner DID YOU KNOW? + St. Rita s School children participate in many Service Projects during the year. This year they helped distribute food through FoodLink, collected backpacks and school supplies for foster children in CASA, and donated Halloween candy to our military serving overseas through Operation Share Joy. They also collected and sorted gently used coats, sweaters, and winter gear for Warm is the Way to Be for the needy in our community, collected socks for Hope Ministry which is run through Holy Trinity Church, and each class compiled different items for DayStar, an amazing program that assists children with medical conditions. From a School Parent... Q: Why did your family choose St. Rita s School? A: We chose St. Rita School because of the emphasis it places on religious values, morals, and philosophies, while holding a strong academic record. We have watched our children grow spiritually, personally, and intellectually. As a family we have participated in almost all the family and community building events the school has offered. We have enjoyed the Fall Family Dances, Grandparents Day, the New Family Ice-Cream Social, and the Father-Daughter Dances. We have watched our children find themselves and discover their talents through the activities in which they participate. Some of these activities were, Chess Club, Drama Kids, the School and Children s Church Choir, Odyssey of the Mind, Violin lessons, and Girls on the Run. Not only have our children formed lifelong friendships with classmates at St. Rita s, but my husband and I have formed these relationships with some of the parents as well. St. Rita s is not only a school, it is an extended family to our own. We are blessed to be a part of this nurturing, warm, and welcoming environment. *Katie VanDamme, Mother of 2017 graduate Avery, 5th grader Annika, and Kindergartener Vaughn * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * St. Rita Men s Group The St. Rita Men s Group meets monthly to support one another in our faith and to discuss topics that explore our faith and the challenges we face day to day. We hope that by supporting one another, all members will each deepen his relationship with Jesus. All men are welcome, no matter where you are in your faith journey. No commitment is required. Come to as few or as many meetings as you desire. If you have any questions at all, please feel free reach out to John Matina at jmatina@rochester.rr.com Our next gathering will be Monday, July 10 6:30-8:00pm in Room 1. We hope to see you there!
