3 F. V R / B B D / D May 14, There are different kinds of ministries in the Church. We have the ministerial and the common priesthood. Both of them are geared toward improving the spiritual lives of the faithful. It is important therefore that we appreciate the services we receive from ordained or consecrated men and women who have committed themselves into helping us know about Jesus. Above all, we need to pray for them because the tasks may seem simple but they are difficult in nature. The reason is that these tasks are not about the individual but about the one who called them Jesus. No wonder Jesus himself kept encouraging them not to be afraid. He says, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. But this encouragement is not only for those called to serve in the ministerial priesthood, it is for all Christians to learn to depend on God as they undertake tasks in his name. So whether we are ordained to serve or volunteers, the aim should be to reflect the image of Christ in the service we render to the community. The early Church favored the deaconate because of the burden of too much work on the apostles. For example, widows and others felt neglected from the sharing of bread and other benefits that the early Church gave to members. The deacons were chosen to help at the sharing of bread at the table rather than preaching the Word, in order that the apostles would commit themselves into preaching. The seven deacons, therefore, signify an expansion of the ministries within the Church giving an opportunity for many others to contribute to building F S E R CALLED TO SERVE IN THE CHURCH R. V C. Y, P V the Body of Christ. The Acts of the Apostles tells us, The word of God continued to spread, and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem increased greatly; even a large group of priests were becoming obedient to the faith. This in itself is a testimony to what the I am the way the truth and the life... Lord was doing through the hands of the apostles and the chosen deacons. The words of Jesus are comforting for those called to serve in any capacity in the Church. He says, I am the way, the truth and the life, no one can come to the Father except through me. Jesus is implying that in our service we should see ourselves as acting on behalf of the Father whose concern is to take care of his children. Philip said to Jesus, Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us. Jesus explained to Philip that he has been with his disciples for so long a time and yet they do not understand that he is in the Father and the Father is in him? To have seen Jesus is to have seen the Father. B B F D Save Your Change and Change a Life! St. Paul Parish is hos ng a Baby Bo le Drive for First Way Pregnancy Center! Bo les were passed out on April 29 th and 30 th and will be collected next weekend, on May 20 th and 21 st. If you did not get a bo le, you can s ll donate if you would like, on May 20 and 21, please make checks out to: First Way Pregnancy Center. All proceeds go to benefit First Way. The message for all Christian men and women is to learn humility from Jesus and incorporate this into all levels of service in the Church. The deaconate assisted the early Church and it is still helpful today toward serving the people of God. Even as volunteers, we need to bring humility into our service to those in need of Jesus. Every action should begin from Jesus and end with Jesus because it is his ministry. As for the priestly or consecrated life the call is a dedicated one for life without any distractions in the service of God s people for prayer and communion. When all of us commit ourselves to improving the conditions of others, we do these with love and joy. The reward of God service is eternal life, which comes from the Father. Also, the joy of service is to see an improvement in the spiritual lives of those we serve. The transformation comes from Jesus himself who administers his love over the individual touched by our service. It is important therefore to appreciate everything that comes to us from the Father when he sends frail men and women to help us know him and love him. Many saints in the past dedicated their lives into teaching us the joy of service. St. Teresa of Calcutta and St. John Paul II are two examples. St. Teresa s work speaks volumes to us even today when we consider her as a committed servant of God with special love for the poor. Pope St. John Paul touched us by his unreserved love for Jesus as he prayed and preached to us. Consider it an honor to serve and do your best to bring joy to those you serve. Keep praying! Ave, maris Stella, Dei Mater alma, Atque semper Virgo, Felix coeli Portia It s official...father Declan of The Missionaries of The Most Holy Eucharist, who gave our Adoration Mission last Fall, will be saying the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Wednesday, May 17th. He will give a talk directly following Mass. Please get the word out to all who are committed Adorers and to all who would like to Adore, as soon as possible, this is a wonderful blessing to once again have Father Declan here at St Paul s!!! This year is the 100th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima. May 13 through Oct. 13th was the time frame of her apparitions. Pray for peace especially, regarding Russia, as she requested. Our beloved St. Pope John Paul II, consecrated his heart & devotion to Our Lady. THE STORY OF FATIMA The story of Fatima began in the spring of Lucia Santos and her two cousins, Francisco and Jacinta Marto, were tending their family s flocks when an angel appeared to them. He called himself the angel of Peace and told the children that Jesus and Mary desired to pour out mercy on them. The next year, Our Lady herself came to the children. In a series of apparitions from May 13, 2017 to October 13, 2017, she warned humanity to cease offending God. She gave the children a prophetic secret that foretold the rise of communist Russia and the persecution of the Church. She asked for faithful to pray the Rosary every day, and for the Pope to consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart a task St. John Paul II carried out in During the last vision, October 13, 1917, Mary performed the Miracle of the Sun. The crowds at Fatima, and even people ten miles away, saw the sun spin in the sky and plummet to the earth. This astounding miracle served to confirm everything the children had said. And it is a call for us to live the message of Fatima today through prayer, penance, and devotion to her Immaculate Heart. ~Source: TAN publishing.~

May is Foster Care month in Arizona. The number of Foster Children in Arizona has grown to over 17,000. The need for loving Foster Families for these vulnerable children is greater than ever. Of course, not everyone is called to serve in this way, but we urge your consideration and prayerful discernment. To help you become better informed, below is a description of Foster Care training from the Arizona DES website. Parenting a child in foster care in not the same as parenting a child to whom you have given birth. Training provides you with tools and challenges you to grow and develop so you can parent children who have been neglected and abused. While you may have previous parenting experience, parenting children who have been neglected and abused is different. The training will also help you decide whether foster and adoptive parenting is right for you and your family. Is now the right time? What type of child can I successfully parent? What are some of the special considerations of parenting siblings? The entire training takes about 30 hours to complete. Foster parents are vital members of the child's team. This training provides information about the roles and responsibilities of all the team members. You can get more information at -becoming-foster-parent or Contact St. Paul parishioners Lin Stoudt or Ralph Fecke in person: lin.stoudt@cox.net or
