2 Page 2 DEACON The most important events of March are, of course, the events of Holy Week. The liturgies of the Triduum Sacrum (the holy three days of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday) are the heart of our life and worship. The Triduum is our Daytona 500, World Series, or Super Bowl, if you will. It is the most crucial time of the year for us as we celebrate the saving acts of our Lord Jesus Christ. On Maundy Thursday, we see the foot washing, the Institution of the Holy Eucharist, and our Lord s new Commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. (John 13:34) On Good Friday, we walk with Jesus to the Praetorium where he is sentenced to death, scourged, takes up his cross and makes his way under the weight of our sins to Mount Calvary where he is crucified. Finally at the Great Vigil of Easter, we hear God s plan of salvation throughout the ages, walk with Mary and Martha to the tomb, and celebrate with great joy the Lord s Resurrection and victory over death. The liturgies for these three days are not three separate liturgies but, are in fact, one great liturgy that lasts from Maundy Thursday through the first mass of Easter at the Great Vigil. They all point to our salvation by the works of Jesus Christ. I cannot urge you enough to make sure that you attend these three liturgies Maundy Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Good Friday at 7:30 p.m., and Holy Saturday for the first mass of Easter at 8:00 p.m. They will move you and bless you. Please give them absolute priority in your schedules. This comes to you with my prayers and blessings for a holy Lent and with the hope that each of us, and all of us together, will be open to the transforming power of the Paschal Mystery of Jesus death and resurrection commemorated in the great liturgies of the Triduum Sacrum. With every blessing, JWJ+ Spring is upon us and we see new growth in and around the parish. With this growth comes the need for more volunteers, especially in the new Maintenenace & Service teams. As many of you may know, the St. Vincent s Community has a landscape service that cares for the lawn. In the past, St. Vincent s had lawn teams that were responsible for mowing, edging, etc. on Saturday mornings. The volunteers would Mow for Jesus one Saturday every 6-8 weeks. Now we need volunteers to join a team and give therir time in assiting in the maintenance our our parish facilities and grounds one Saturday every several weeks. This will include tasks such as changing light bulbs & air filters, touching up paint, clearing gutters, weeding flower beds, and other miner reparins in and outside of our buildings. You don t need to be a certified specialist to do these jobs. Men and women are both welcome to volunteer. Power in numbers is what we need! In addition to the teams, we are also making a list of parishners who do have special skills. Plumbing, electrical, A/ C & heating repair, painting, are some of the specialist we would like to have on hand to call on when needed. If you are interested, I will be in the courtyard with a sign-up sheets the first two Sundays in March. You may also contact the church office and leave your name and information with Mrs. Virginia. Thank you in advance for your service. God s Peace, Chad Haney
