2 THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT Many of us probably think of Jesus as a gentle, peace-loving man. He certainly presented himself as one on most occasions. But today s Gospel presents a Jesus who appears to be acting out of character. He takes a big risk by overturning tables of the moneychangers in the temple and claiming that his authority to display such righteous indignation comes from God. Jesus insists that the temple is the house of the presence of the Lord, and that nothing else but the praise and worship of the God of Israel is to be conducted within its sacred walls. In our own day, we sometimes see a disregard for the respect due to God s house by the way in which we conduct ourselves. Do we treat God s house as a venue for social networking instead of a place of prayer and reflection as we strive to become more God-like? By respecting God s house we set an example for others, encouraging all who enter to act with reverence and respect. When others are invited to our homes to share friendship, we expect respect to be shown. God s house deserves as much if not more. What example do you set when you enter God s house? RESPONSE TO THE INTERCESSIONS SUNG - We have begun singing the response to the Intercessions here at St. Agnes and Holy Trinity parishes. When one sings, one prays twice, said St. Augustine. It is our hope that this sung response will provide us with one more way of celebrating the liturgy in a manner that highlights its importance amid all that we do in the rest of our day. Easter Flower Memorials for Living/Deceased As in the past, the lilies and other flowers that will enhance the Sanctuaries at Holy Trinity and St. Agnes at Easter can be memorials for the living or deceased. If you wish to make a donation toward these flowers in memory of someone, please put it in the special white envelope found in your monthly packet of envelopes and write on it their name/s as well as your own. 4 WE ARE ALL IMMIGRANTS DOCUMENTARY to PREMIER at HEINZ HISTORY CENTER The Senator John Heinz History Center will host a preview showing of We Are All Immigrants, a locally produced documentary, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, The documentary, which features generations of immigrants from 10 different countries, tells the compelling stories of courage, hope, and faith from immigrants who journeyed to Pittsburgh. The project was undertaken to tell the stories of immigrants in their own words and in the context of a common humanity. The premiere is free; advance registration required.
