2 THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT If your heart feels like a dry desert and God seems far away, get ready for a refreshing rain from heaven. In today s first reading Isaiah proclaims that God is coming with life-saving rain to save us, then the desert will bloom with abundant flowers, and rejoice with joyful song. God wants to bless you with rain from heaven so your dreams will bloom full of hope. Are you afraid your dreams will not come true? Isaiah thunders, Fear not! We may think it impossible to live unafraid, especially when we are worried about something. Yet we are repeatedly commanded in scripture to live without fear. God wants us to be fearless. Trust God and live free of anxiety every day. In the second reading, James says we may need to be patient, like a farmer waiting for rain, but He gives us courage by saying, Make your hearts firm, because the coming of the Lord is at hand. Finally, Jesus showers divine words on people in the desert: The blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed. SECOND COLLECTION TODAY AT ST. Christmas Flower Fund Each year at Christmas, the churches are beautifully decorated for the Birth of Jesus with Christmas Flowers. This tradition is made possible through the generous donations of our parishioners. An altar made radiant with flowers is a beautiful way to honor or remember our loved ones. We invite you to make a donation to the Christmas Flower Fund in Memory of a deceased loved one or In Honor of a living one. Please write the names of friends and relatives on the back of the envelope and put in the collection basket or return to Parish Office by Monday, December 13th. The names will be remembered in the Special Masses of Christmas and will be listed on a Christmas Flower Memorial bulletin insert. 3 Gaudete Sunday Today is known as Gaudete Sunday, which means Rejoicing Sunday. We are happy because the coming of the Lord is near. As the Prophet Isaiah in today s first reading reminded his people, that when the promised Savior would come, there would be singing and joy and gladness. So the people of Israel waited for the coming Savior with joy. And it is with that same kind of joy that we again prepare to celebrate that first coming of Jesus. With only twelve days till Christmas, there is much that needs to be done during the remaining days like baking, cleaning, decorating, buying and wrapping gifts. But in addition to these, and far more important that any of them, must be our spiritual preparation to celebrate the birth of our Savior. It should be a joyful preparation as we try to fathom the deep love that God has for us by allowing Heaven to come down to earth through our Savior and King. ~~ PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL PRIESTS AND RELIGIOUS AND FOR AN INCREASE IN VOCATIONS ~~ RECONCILIATION AND HOLY DAY MASS SCHEDULE ST. Come Home for Christmas! Any Catholic individual searching for a way to better prepare for Christmas doesn t need to look any further than the parish confessional room. Do you want to find peace? Do you want to grow spiritually? You are nervous because it has been a long time since you have been to confession. Respond to the movement of the spirit within yourself and take the plunge. Don t worry about what to say or how to say it. Your already know the manner in which you have displeased God by your lifestyle. Mention those sins and request forgiveness. Trust in God s mercy even if you haven t been to confession in 4, 7, 10 or 15 years. Come home to a loving Father waiting to forgive you. A number of priests will be available. The Penance Service will begin with prayer and reflection, with personal confession to follow, individually!

4 Christmas Novena Prayer December 16th-24th O Christ, Word made flesh You came into our world not to condemn it, but to replace death and hatred with life and love. You promised to stay with us until the end of time and gave us the gift of Your Body and Blood in the Eucharist as a pledge of that promise. We thank and praise You! We ask that through this gift of the Eucharist, we may put on Your mind and heart and so bring Your Spirit of love, justice and peace to our homes and to our suffering world.
