2 ST. JOSEPH PARISH JANUARY 1 MASS SCHEDULE Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God Masses: Monday, January 1 st 9:00 and 10:30 AM Happy New Year! Fr. John, Fr. Brian, Fr. Edmund, the staff and I wish each and every one of you and your loved ones a very happy, healthy and successful As we enter this new year, we need to focus on the future while learning from the past. Where we have let down God, others and ourselves, we must experience reconciliation and resolve to do better and to become more faithful Christians. We cannot undo the past, but we can make sure that we are more faithful to God and to each other going forward. Time is a very precious gift that we have all received from our loving God, over time, we can change our attitudes and behaviors. Over time, we can build strong and loving relationships. Over time, we can demonstrate the power of mercy and love. Over time, we can truly begin to witness to the presence of God in each other. As we enter this new year, I want to thank our wonderful staff and the many, many volunteers for another year of great service to us all. We have so many who give of themselves year after year to make this the great faith community that it is and will be in the future. There are not words enough to express my gratitude for what they do and what they are. Many thanks to all who contribute their time, talents and treasures to further the ministry of Christ. Let us also give thanks to, and offer our prayers for, those who defend our safety and freedoms- our emergency personal in this great city and those who serve in the armed forces. They serve so that we might enjoy the liberties that we have come to expect as our God-given rights. We do not know what 2018 will bring to us; but, with faith in God s goodness and love, let us resolve to enter the new year with the commitment to bring peace, joy and love to our world and relationships. Living out that commitment will ensure that we are usng the time we are given to draw closer to God and to each other. May all in this great community, in our families and in our world have a happy, healthy and peaceful 2018! Fr. Bill Sanctuary Flowers The Flowers and plants that will be on the Sanctuary during the Christmas Season will be in memory of family and friends of parishioners of St. Joseph Parish. A complete listing is on the Prayer Board in the front entrance of the church. MALDEN Christmas Thank You Once again, we celebrated the Christmas masses with much joy and enthusiasm. Many people made this possible by their participating in the planning, preparing and presenting of our faith experience as we gave thanks for the incarnation of Jesus Christ. In recognition of their enabling all of us to really enter into the joy of the season, I want to thank the following individuals and groups: To all who contributed flowers in memory of loved ones by honoring them through our celebrations. To Harriet and Heather DiGiovanni, Anna and Marie Lombardi, Fran O Brien, Jennifer and T. J. Lynch, Nancy Mac- Donald, Michele, Jacquelyn and Matthew Royal for their dedication to decorating our church so beautifully and lovingly. You make our celebration even more uplifting. To Tom and Harry who always ensure that the church and the church property are inviting to all. To our ushers who are so helpful, welcoming and courteous. To the Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors and Altar Servers who are so faithful in their parish service. To our wonderful Music Director, Rob, for the awesome musical presentations at all of our liturgies, for his hours of preparation and for his encouraging leadership of the parish music ministry. To Jennifer who raised her voice so beautifully and encouraged us to uplift ours. To the members of our St. Joseph Adult and Children s Choirs who so impressively demonstrated their love of God and this community. To the nearly thirty young people who presented our Christmas Pageant who worked so hard to make sure the Christmas message of Christ s incarnation became a reality for us. Your faith in and love for Jesus are apparent. Thanks to Buffy Walsh, Kathy Harless and Joshua Dube for the time and effort spent in ensuring that the chiodren were prepared and comfortable in their roles. To Fran O Brien and the Spiritual Development Advisory Board for their facilitating our Advent Reconciliation Service. Thanks also go out to those who participated that evening. To Fr. John for his leading us so movingly in the parish celebrations, including the Reconciliation Service. To all who assisted in any way to ensure that the Christmas celebrations enriched us all. And, finally, I thank all of our parishioners who gathered as the wonderful community that we are so that we might lift up our hearts together in thanksgiving for the gift of Jesus. THANK YOU, EVERYONE Fr. Bill

One way to reflect on your blessings as the days and months pass is to fill a Blessing Jar. Simply find a container (ideally with a lid) and place it in a prominent place in your home. Next to it, set slips of paper and writing utensils. Encourage every family member to jot down one thing they re grateful for every day. If you have a large family, you may need one jar for each person. You can also use differentcolored paper slips for each family member. Every week, sit down together and review the many ways that God is present in your lives.
