Dear Parishioners, Today, we hear about the parable of the mustard seed. It is the smallest of all seeds and yet produces the largest of shrubs. Jesus speaks in parables so that we can discover answers to our faith based on our life experiences. He explains the parables in depth to His disciples and to us if we take the time to study our faith and the scriptures. The more we develop our relationship with Him, the more we will come to an understanding of these parables and apply them to our life. This parable refers to the seed of faith which when planted in us is very small and yet when we nourish and nurture it, it becomes the foundation of who we are and how we relate to God and the world. Today is Father s Day. This is the day that we give thanks to God for our father s and recognize that they are the example of His love for us in this life. We pray that all fathers may be an example of this love and always be the spiritual leader of their family that they are called to be. Bishop s Name in Eucharistic Prayer Our Bishops names are mentioned in the Eucharistic Prayer at Mass and we have made a change to one of the names. When Bishop Thomas came to the diocese of Orange, we have been saying Thomas as his name for ease of pronunciation; however, his actual name is Thanh Thai Nguyen. We will now say; For Kevin our bishop, Timothy and Thanh his assistant bishops Although we hear a new name in the Eucharistic Prayer, we do not have another new bishop. 4 SCHOOL OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Registration for Elementary and High School Religion Classes are NOW OPEN! Come to the SRE Office in the Parish Center Mondays through Thursdays from 9am to noon and 1pm to 4:30pm. 1 st through 6 th grades: Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday 4:15pm to 5:30pm 7 th & 8 th grades: Tuesday evenings, 7pm to 8:30pm Confirmation I and II Classes: Alternate Tuesdays, 7pm to 8:30pm I We will be in the courtyard (large parking lot side) the weekend of July 28 & 29 th after all the Masses. The School of Religion is looking for people (men, women, confirmed teens, parents or grandparents) who would be willing to volunteer in our faith formation program for children. You don t have to be a teacher, theologian or have a lot of experience with children. But, if you... want to be a good role model for children enjoy being around children want to help them develop a relationship with God grow in your own relationship with God, enrich your own spirituality...then being a teacher or teacher s aide might be just what God is calling you to be! 5 4th Annual Priests vs Seminarians Basketball Game Here we go again! Excitement is building for the Diocese of Orange Priests vs. Seminarians Annual Basketball Game. Who will take home the trophy this year?! The Priests are hungry for a comeback, and the Seminarians are looking to continue with a winning streak. Catholic Relief Services is coordinating efforts to assist victims, open shelters and start a collection center to receive essential medicine, clothes, and food. To learn more about how you can help: Visit Lord of All Creation, Protect all those whose lives and homes are threatened by the Fuego volcano eruptions in Guatemala. Give strength to rescue workers, as they tirelessly seek to help those in danger. Comfort those who have lost their loved ones and welcome those who have died into your loving arms. We ask all this in your name. Amen. Come to Faith Alive-Faith Sharing! The Faith Alive-Faith Sharing group meets weekly on Thursdays, 10AM to 11:30AM in Room A. All parishioners are invited to join the group to study the scriptures for the upcoming Sunday Masses. HELP WANTED More volunteers are needed to help in the cleaning of the Church. 6 Ref rbishing the Ar Works You may have noticed a different image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that was on the large parking lot side of the Church by the candle stands. The original piece is being restored and will be gone for about 2 months. Once this piece is returned, the image of the Blessed Mother will be restored. Second Collection During the Masses on June 23rd and 24th, we will be having a second collection. The Universal Church Collection will assist the Catholic Relief Services Collection, as well as the Peter Pence s Collection. The mission of Catholic Relief Services is to assist the poor and disadvantaged by alleviating human suffering, promoting development of all people, and fostering charity and justice internationally. The Peter Pence s Collection promotes and supports the works of our Holy Father, enabling him to respond with emergency financial assistance to victims of war, natural disasters, and others most in need of assistance. Thank you for your support and generosity. Prayer for Fathers Day Heavenly Father, you entrusted your Son Jesus, the child of Mary, to the care of Joseph, an earthly father. Bless all fathers as they care for their families. Give them strength and wisdom, tenderness and patience: support them in the work they have to do, protecting those who look to them, as we look to You for love and salvation, through Jesus Christ our rock and defender, in union with the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The reign of God comes about because people commit to reversing their lives completely, to embracing new vision, new values. Many popular television shows exploit an unattractive side of human nature by pitting contestants against one another, even to the point of performing dangerous stunts or devious schemes, to gain money or favor. At the liturgy, we counter that impulse by committing ourselves to live generously. In response to Christ s total gift, we offer bread and wine as the emblems of our lives, our hopes, our joys and sorrows. The bread and wine carried to the altar contain our lives, and by offering our lives to God, we prepare to receive the gift of God s own life. We are to become what we receive: the body of Christ. On Sundays, this self giving is often accompanied by a collection and procession of gifts for the poor and money for the upkeep of the parish. There are certainly other methods of collecting money, some perhaps more efficient. Yet the acts of giving from our abundance and attending to the needs of the poor open us up to participation in the changes the Reign of God requires. - Rev.
