Page 2 Christ the King November 23, 2014 Introducing our new Associate Fr. Mario Pereira Fr. Mario Pereria is a member of the Society of the Missionaries of St. Francis Xavier, (Society of Pilar), headquartered in Goa, India. The shortage of priests in the Archdiocese of Chicago has been a concern for some time. While seminary enrollment has increased, Cardinal George has welcomed extern priests and even invited religious congregations to staff parishes. Among these groups is the Society of Pilar. Fr. Mario responded to the invitation to serve the Archdiocese and is looking forward to pastoral ministry at St. Isaac Jogues. He entered the seminary in 1972, completed his Bachelor of Arts with a focus in psychology in 1985 and was ordained in 1990. His 20 year pastoral, administrative and teaching experiences began as an assistant parish priest in India in 1991. During the 1990 s he served in several locations throughout India. In 2002 he was assigned to a position as Assistant Parish Priest with the Diocese of Calgary, Alberta-Canada where he served for 1 year. He returned to India to fill the position of Director of the Apostolic School in Pilar, Goa. Then became the Provincial Secretary from 2009-2012 and served as Provincial Councilor in Goa Province. Additional assignments include: Assistant to the Novice Master 1990-1991 Prefect of the Minor Seminarians 1993-1999 Director of Minor Seminary 1999-2000 Fr. Mario returned to the US earlier this year and has been temporarily assigned to St. Timothy in Chicago. He has also celebrated Mass at St. Nicholas in Evanston. He will be moving into the rectory at the end of November and begin his ministry here at St. Isaac Jogues in December. As pastor, I am honored to introduce him to our suburban American parish, its ministries, organizations, sacramental and social life. I trust that you will do your best to extend your welcome, hospitality and friendship to Fr. Mario. As he learns more about St. Isaac Jogues, he will share his experience and teach us as he learns. May Fr. Mario s time with us add deeper understanding of a Church that is truly Catholic and inclusive. -Fr. Luczak Who are The Pilar Fathers? Society of the Missionaries of St. Francis Xavier, Pilar (S.F.X.) commonly referred as Society of Pilar or Pilar Fathers, is a Roman Catholic seminary (Society of Apostolic Life) founded on September 26, 1877 by Rev. Fr. Jose Mariano Bento Martins in Pilar, Goa. Indian by birth and just 124 years old, now 400 members strong, the Society of Pilar, serves the population of India and has opened missions and parishes in Nepal, England, USA, Germany and Italy. They engage in works of social uplift and development of people without discrimination of caste, class or creed. Education is a major area of focus. The Society manages primary and secondary schools, colleges, technical and engineering institutions. They operate in small teams on a variety of social outreach programs. They manage orphanages and health care centers in rural areas. Their programs include rehabilitation of migrant people, adult literacy classes, specific welfare for women, and training for social workers. The society also provides emergency aid for those dealing with earthquakes or tsunami.

BARRON DVD SERIES The Spiritual Life Commission invites you to the second session (Prophet) of the three week series featuring Fr. Robert Barron s newly released Priest, Prophet, King program The evening session will be on Monday, November 24, 7-8:30 p.m. The morning session will be on Tuesday, November 25, 8:45-10:15 a.m. Both sessions will include dvd presentations and discussion and will be held in the Holy Family Room and include refreshments. In Priest, Prophet, King, you ll discover Jesus as the Anointed One the ultimate priest, prophet and king foreshadowed throughout the Hebrew Scriptures. Using biblical insights and engaging stories, Fr. Barron affirms that we see Jesus most clearly through the lens of the Old Testament. If you have any free time and would like to help this charitable organization, please call them at (847) 965-1454. On behalf of Waukegan to College, I just wanted to take a moment to say THANK YOU to Fr. Luczak and all the members of St. Isaac Jogues for inviting us to speak on behalf of the CCHD appeal. Our families were touched by the encouragement and outpouring of love they felt by the members of St. Isaac. Many church members came up to our families after Mass to tell them what a good job they did, which really encouraged our students (a couple who had never spoken before in public) and lifted their confidence. One mom told me, We felt so welcome. Another said, The outpouring of encouragement and affirmations we received from people coming up to us was so overwhelming. What a loving church! Thanks again and God bless all of you at St. Isaac Jogues. Laura Rios, Program Manager Waukegan to College
