Chapllaiin s Reportt Dear Bro. Knights and Families: The strife is o er the Ba.le won! CHRIST HAS DIED! CHRIST IS RISEN! CHRIST WILL COME AGAIN! Our Lenten days are over and our Easter days are now being celebrated. We give thanks for the many blessings we have received personally and as a parish cluster during these past and upcoming weeks. It is with great joy that we welcome Peter Dyck, Lisa Newman and Maria Leggate into God s family through the waters of Bap6sm and Ryan Williams and Tara Trelout into full communion into the church through their profession of faith. May God who has begun the good work in them bring it to comple1on. The month of May not only brings flowers in bloom but many other special celebra(ons our way. To name a few: - World Day of Vocations May 11 th - Mother s Day May 11 th - First Communions - Wedding anniversary Mass May 4 th - Many priests anniversary of Ordination - Women s Conference- Essex May 3 rd Let us also rejoice in our two newest saints of the Church, canonized by Pope Francis on April 27 th : Saint John XX111 and Saint John Paul 11. Easter Blessings! Father Rick Chaplain Chancellllor Updattes Brother Knights, Our executive ask if you could keep in your prayers the Members of our council and those of our Extended Families. For Bro. Knight Ron Royal, Ron Vermeulen, George Leroux, John Havlek, John Popelas, Wayne Gow, Bill Strong, Paul Gignac, John Humenny, Paul Bering, Joe Porto, Danny Nelson, Jean Paul Thibert, Ed Cuschieri and Father Chris Quinlan. If we could also keep in our Prayers those of our extended Families, Len and Cecile Janisse, parents of Father Rick Janisse, William Polli7e, Son of Brad and Rebecca Polli7e, (heart condi&on) Janet Cuschieri wife of bro. Ed Cuschieri, Dolores Rocheleau Mother of Bro, Ted Rocheleau, Diane Orawski wife of Bro. Dan Orawski, Bro. Wilfred Kobelski s Sister Marilyn
Rivest, Mary Wyard wife of Bro, Tony Wyard, Michelle Morin wife of Bro, Reg Morin, Audrey Strong wife of Bro. Bill Strong, Megan Balakowski Granddaughter of Stan Balakowski and Anthony Rebkowec s father If you have an upcoming Anniversary please let me know as your commitment to the Sacrament of Marriage should be recognized. Chancellor Steve Benson Grand Kniightt s Words off Wiisdom:: Dear Brothers, Brothers first my apologies to our bulle3n editor Mar3n for not submi8ng this &ll Sunday night, but I wanted to bring you the events of our 111 State Conference. What a great weekend to be catholic and especially to belong to the Knights of Columbus. We had 2 popes canonized, with 2 living popes in a,endance. Who would of thought this could be possible even a year ago. This shows what can be accomplished when one is focused and has a purpose. Arriving home from our conference it gives me great sa!sfac!on in saying the KofC is alive and well in Ontario. This was one of the largest a2ended conven6ons in recent 6mes, and shows the openness of our state board to listen to the members in Ontario for change and to try something new. Some of the things I took away from the conference was the sugges3on to have a retreat for the council. To give thought to the prayers e pray each mee6ng instead of it being a redundant process. Have members sit on and be involved in the different church commi6ees and func%ons, let our parish priest know what gi5s our members have that can be u%lized by our church. I will be expanding more on these at our upcoming general mee7ng. Please a9end to see the awards that our council was recognized for. We also had our London West Diocesan mee#ng; I will give a report at the general mee#ng as well. Thank you to Andrej Jezierski and all who a6ended the Thurs night pro- life vigils during lent at the Leamington church and please do not forget the Silent Walk and vigil Sunday May 4 th from Leamington District High school to the Leamington hospital, please contact Andrej for more informa(on at At this mee)ng we will hold elec)ons for our next fraternal years execu)ve as well as nomina&ons for our Columbus centerboard. I would love to hear from brothers who have ques%ons regarding what it takes to do the posi%ons, I will try to give a brief descrip%on before our elec(ons to help you understand that it is not nearly the (me some may think it is, but how vital that (me is to our council. I will only ask you to truly think about this if not now in the near future. Fraternally, Cur$s Sco* Grand Knight #8233
Diisttriictt Deputty s Reportt Brother Knights, Congratula)ons to St. John de Brébeuf & Companions Council 8233 for their successful effort to win the District Euchre trophy. The top three season winners were brothers Ron Vermeulen place (8233) 1ST, Neil Sunderland (8233) 2ND place, Neil DeGoey (4501) 3RD place. Ontario State conven-on elec-ons resulted with no changes and the 2014/15 State Board includes: State Deputy Kevin Daudlin, State Secretary Alain Cayer, State Treasurer Peter Lemon, State Advocate Dan Heffernan and State Warden David Peters. The next 1ST & 2ND degree is Sunday May 18TH at St Gregory the Great parish in Tecumseh. Candidates at 1 pm, degree begins at 1:45 pm. Pre- register by May 15TH with DD Jerry Fairlie at jerryfairlie@yahoo.ca. I urge every Knight to genuinely consider offering your )me and talent to your Council s success and its con/nued growth by becoming an execu/ve officer for your Council. I quote Saint John Paul II, Be not afraid. Don t let fear, uncertainty and rou:ne excuses, prevent you to stretch beyond your comfort zone and to contribute to build a stronger Council and Order while offering service to your parish and others in need in your community. How useful is a book unread or a gi- unopened? As Catholics, we are bap9sed with the expecta9on that we are to share our God given talents with others. Ask yourself: are you an unopened gi9 in your faith community? Fraternally and at your service, David Gelinas, DD (519) david4kcknights@hotmail.com Deputty Grand Kniightt s Reportt Elections are just around the corner. Our council is in great need of a leader, with passion, courage, and charisma. If you, or someone you know is ready and willing to fulfill the call as DGK encourage them to run. Fiinanciiall Secrettary s Corner Brothers: Congratulations to George Hric for becoming a life- time member of our council. We are having elections at this month s meeting. The main position is Deputy Grand Night, with a
whole year to learn & develop your skills to move into the Grand Knight position. The person who does will be not be alone with this, we have great past grand knights, plus Curtis & the rest of executive all help each other. It is two meetings a month, once the monthly routines come and go you will be surprised that it wasn t as hard as was feared when you started. So do you remember why you joined the knights, do you see your sponsor or still talk to him! Are you enjoying your knighthood, if not come out a little more often and be a part of it. After all, as a council we do so many things that help the needy, it s truly a good feeling to know we ve made a difference in peoples lives. No one is a member or helps because they have too! We only get out of it what we put into it, we are all here on this earth for a short time, 70, 80 yrs, seems like quite a bit sometimes, but we all know better! Fraternally Bob Phaneuf Let's Take Advantage of Our Hall Just a reminder to my fellow knights. Our hall is a very nice location to celebrate all kinds of family events such as birthdays, anniversaries, showers and even weddings. We are licensed for up to 100 people. Our prices are very reasonable for members. We are also licensed under L.C.B.O. More rentals would help a lot towards paying our expenses. Please consider us when planning any event. You can call me at Yours in Fellowship, Ken Bachmeier, "Custodian." Squiires News Hello all and Happy Easter Season! I wanted to let you know that our Squires are well on our way to getting everything ready and in place for our trip to Toronto for the 60 th Annual convention. We are in the process of doing some final fundraising and service projects to help minimize the costs and I tell you what, it s great to have the boys participate! Special thanks to Heritage Village and Ernie s TV for your service opportunities and donations. We had our executive nominations last month and if you can believe it, pretty much every Squire was nominated for a position. No position had less than 4 names under it! I m holding my breath for our elections on Monday, May the 12 th in the church basement (starting 6pm, you are invited, by the way)! That night we also have a presentation by our St. Vincent de Paul Chapter. We are very near installing 2 new Squires and are ready to look for more as we move into our summer schedule. I also wanted to publicly thank our D.I.T. (Deacon-in-Training) Anthony Rebkowec for putting a nice plaque on our Squires cross. It looks great!
We are hoping for some great spring/ summer activities for the boys. We have our Squires Mass and our Mother s Day Carnations all set, already we have planned a trip to Merlin for the Shrine day, Sunday, June 3 3pm. We are looking a gathering of sticks for a street hockey tournament, a trip to the retirement home is still simmering as nominations has taken over our excitement and steam. We are looking at a retreat and even a trip into the bush where we are in a preliminary stage of setting up some possible Archery. So why do we do this? We do these activities because it teaches the boys some valuable life lessons about having a balance of physical, intellectual, spiritual and civicminded-ness. Each boy through their involvement with the Squires program learns far more than any one sport (ie: hockey, no cheap shot intended) could gain for them. Organized sports are great, don t get me wrong, but what we do with the boys teaches them to be leaders. We don t just give them basic skills, we work with them to plan, organize and pull off events. We teach them how to deal with people out in public and talk to them in a professional way. The Squires program also allows the young Squire to develop healthy relationships with great strong men in our counsellors. These men sacrifice of their own time to be there for the Squires. I believe that for many young men who are raised by single mothers, this is a god-send. For many dads, having an opportunity for our sons to rub elbows with other great men and get that reinforcement of skill teaching is also appreciated by many including myself. As Counselors, personal relationships are developed with our Squires through our activities and it benefits us probably as much as it does the boys. We learn to laugh and to let go and have fun with them. We can be serious and prayerful and deal with difficult moments as well. All of this creates foundational memories for our Squires. We are always looking for boys to mold and men to do the molding. If you are interested in being a counsellor or have a boy in mind for the Squires program, please. Won t you give me a call and we can talk about it. Esto Dignus! Be Worthy! Greg Coulter Chief Counselor Constable John Atkinson Circle From Our Insurance Fiielld Agentt:: A founding notion: protecting the breadwinner s income While jobs are safer in 2013, accidents, injuries, and illnesses that can impact your ability to work s'll happen. Most, in fact, do not happen on the jobsite or place of employment. Did you know that a 2011 study revealed that more than 95 percent of the long- term disability claims on file were not work related?
The loss of the breadwinner does not have to mean that person s death; it can also mean the loss of the breadwinner s income. Consider that loss for a moment. How would your family fare if a source of income suddenly stopped? Could a dual- income family manage on one income stream? What about young families with a working father and a mother who cares for the children? What if his income halted due to an accident or illness? I ve heard some people say they have coverage at work, but too many aren t sure what this coverage entails, how much income it would provide or for how long. Having this protec8on counts for something, certainly, but it isn t yours ; it s provided by the company for which you work at their discre.on. It could be eliminated tomorrow. That s where a personally- owned disability income insurance product, like Income Armor, comes into play. It can offer valuable income replacement in the event of an injury or illness. While Father McGivney likely never imagined such a product in 1882, I m sure he would wholeheartedly endorse the protec0on it can provide to a family. If you have a job, you must know about this coverage. Ma#hew Merre# FIC Field Agent Mobile : ma#hew.merre#@kofc.org
