December 2008 Newsletter (519) Chaplain s Report: It is so unfortunate to see that every effort is made to eliminate Christ from the holy season of Christmas. We use every other word to describe this season but Christ at Christmas. My brother Knights we are proud soldiers of Christ, true Christians and disciples of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Our mission is to preach Christ and to make him known. In this holy season, let us make every effort to let this world know that CHRIST IS REASON FOR THE SEASON. In this festive season let us not forget our brother Knights who are sick and pray for their speedy recovery and good health. Let us offer special prayers for deceased Knights who are not with us this Christmas. May they rejoice with God in heaven. I wish you all brother knights and your families Merry Christmas. As I am sure everyone has heard, our Grand Knight Ted is doing better with every day. I m not to sure if he will be at the next meeting (as he has to check with the boss, Joanne) but if he is it will probably be in an unofficial way. I believe THAT WILL BE TOUGH FOR HIM just to sit and watch. We support you, Ted! There are 27 more shopping days till Christmas do all my brother knights know what they are getting there wives??? That s my report. Let us keep in our prayers Andy Repko, Anthony Rebkowec & his mother Lorrain as well as his family, Cathy Riemer, Ed Cushieri, Paul Bering, Danny Nelson, Casey Moody, Guy Riendeau, Fr. Elie, Fr. 2 Grand Knight's Report: Merry Christmas to All Brother Knights and a Their Families! Well, I can t believe we are already here in the month of December. Jo-Ann and I would like to thank all of you who have been praying for us and for my recovery. I also want to thank all of you who picked up the slack and helped out where ever was needed in helping our DGK Dan replace me for the time being. I just want you all to reflect for a moment on why we all became knights. We are a very busy council, involved with the community and charity work. Was it because you saw what we did and you wanted to be apart of IT? If it was and for some reason now your passion has faded in being an active knight, we want to know what we can do to rekindle that passion that you once had! We know you re busy. You wouldn t believe how many pairs of shoes our executives wear out in one year. When called, please answer the phone or return the message that is left for you. If you weren t thought of, we wouldn t have called you in the first place. To address our desire to engage more members actively, our council is organizing a committee to help become aware of upcoming activities for you and your wife to help with and programs for your whole family to be apart of. We will also want to find out from our nonactive members what the knights can do for you and how involved you want to be at this time. The Knights are hosting Free Public Skating on December 31 from 7-8:50. Come out and enjoy the fellowship among friends. Remember, for all you who attend regular meetings, call a brother knight and invite them to a meeting, even offer them a ride. They just might be waiting for that call to let them know they are needed and missed and that they are truly missing out on some good fraternity time. 3 Deputy Grand Knight's Report. On behalf of my wife, Diane and myself, I would like to extend to all our Parish Family, and to all my Brother Knights and their Families our warmest wishes in this festive season and may you all have a very Merry Christmas. I would also like to welcome back our Grand Knight, Ted after his recent heart operation and I know that Jo-Ann can breathe a little easier now that he is well on his way to a full recovery; and we continue to pray for you and your Family. On behalf of our Grand Knight and our Council it was my honour to lay the wreath at the cenotaph during the November 11 th, Remembrance Day ceremonies; for me as well as others it truly was a solemn and moving experience. The ceremonies were well attended by fellow Knights, their wives and various groups as well as members from our community. I would like to Thank Brothers Ray Marentette, Dan Simone, and Lloyd Grandmaison for their hard work in the preparation of the dinner which 31 of our Brother Knights enjoyed before our November General meeting (Nov.11). It was also nice to welcome a guest from the neighbouring Town of Tilbury, Glenn Cooper friend of Richard Amlin who also attended our meeting and enjoyed some fellowship within our Council. I would also like to Thank Brother Lloyd (and I know that he was not alone) for all his work in the Church kitchen helping the CWL with their Turkey supper on November 9 th ; and also Thanks to the CWL for the turkey, mashed potatoes and green beans which they donated for our fellowship meal. Congratulations to Deacon Dennis on celebrating his 1 year Anniversary as a Deacon, many where there to witness his ordination in London, last November3rd; we wish you many more. God Bless. Congratulations to Brothers Larry Heil, and Ray Marentette on their receiving Honorary Memberships and belated congratulations to our Council as we now proudly display our 25 th Anniversary Certificate in the glass case in our Hall. There will be a time of Fellowship from 5 6:45pm, before the December General meeting (December 9th); so please come out and enjoy a couple of hours of good food and good friends and catch up on some things that you may have missed. Please also note that the Columbus Centre meeting as well as the Council Executive meeting will be held on December 16 th instead of the 23 rd. The Columbus Centre meeting will start at 6:15 pm with the Executive to follow. Congratulations go out to Scott Trealout, Ron Royal, and Marshall Heaton who were initiated into the 2 nd degree of our Order, on November 16 th at Sacred Heart, in LaSalle. Let s hope that the remaining 6 members will soon follow suit. A great big Thank You goes out to all who helped decorate the Hall and get it ready for this festive Christmas season, a job well done. Speaking of jobs well done, I have been meaning to Congratulate our Bulletin Editor for the Great job that he does each and every month in publishing our Bulletin. Each month Greg shows us his dedication to detail, his sense of humour, his talents and especially his patience with those of us who produce reports on behalf of the Council. Keep up the Good work, Greg. I know that I am not alone when I say Thank You. The Children s Christmas Party was held on November 23 rd after the 11:00 am Mass, and it was another terrific job by Jennifer and Michael Binder. They provided 38 children with gifts from Santa, 23 adults were also there to share in the fun (my wife and myself included) as well as 6 helpers (I know that I am missing 2 but I did see MaryAnn and Wilfred Kobelsky, Paul Gignac, Claudette Tull) as well as Jen running around making sure that all was going according to plan. There were 2 other surprise guests as Grand Knight, Ted and his son T.J. showed up, it was good to see him out and about. A big Thank You to Larry Heil for a job well done, Thanks Santa; also to our camera man Lloyd. Everyone had fun. Please support, Derek Prowse the chairman for Keeping Christ in Christmas and purchase some cards to send to those you love and friends far away. Knights of Columbus 8233 Page 3

4 The Basketball Free Throw is coming up, Please see Randy s report below. Also in the New Year there will be a mini-golf and chili event (with golf at Colasanti s and chili back in our Hall) chair people are Michelle and Curtis Scott, more details to follow. On December 12 th at the Lakeside Pavilion from 6pm until midnight, we will be catering the Town of Kingsville Christmas Ball which will require those of us who will be serving to dress in white shirt, tie, and black pants as it is a formal and closed event for the Town of Kingsville employees only. We may also be catering to the general public on December 13 th at Lakeside Pavilion from 6pm until midnight, but the venue will be casual, and will be open to the Public ($25.00 /ticket); Please consider helping in these new ventures. State Raffle tickets have just come in and Chairman, Curtis Scott will be needing some Zehrs selling those tickets, Please consider setting aside a couple of hours to help this worthwhile cause. Wild game preparations are starting as we will be getting the tickets printed very soon, the cost will remain the same as the past couple of years($30.00 each); so get your orders in early and contact Ken Bosse when they become available. So read your Bulletin to find out when they will become available. The Parish Breakfasts for the New Year will be held on the First Sunday of each month January 4 th, February 1 st, March 1 st, and April 5 th. Please consider helping us so that we may help others; each month we try and help a different Charity. Please be generous and help us. I wanted to pass on that right now, CAS only has 14 free beds in Windsor/Essex County for children who are victims of neglect or violence.
