1 St. John de Brebeuf Chaplain s Report: Dear Brother Knights and Families: Pope Benedict XV1 has designated June 19, 2009 to June 19, 2010 as the year for priests. All the priests of the London Diocese and indeed, around the world, humbly request your remembrance of them in your daily prayers. Pray that the Lord of the harvest will help us in our daily work and send others to aid and replace those who are sick and those who have died. *** Year for Priests June 19, June 19, 2010 *** Please Pray for Priests: Dear Lord, we pray that the Blessed Mother wrap her mantle around your priests and through her intercession strengthen them for their ministry. We pray that Mary will guide your priests to follow her own words, "Do whatever He tells you" (Jn 2:5). May your priests have the heart of St. Joseph, Mary's most chaste spouse. May the Blessed Mother's own pierced heart inspire Knights of Columbus 8233 Page 1 Council 8233 October County Rd. 20 Kingsville, ON. (519) them to embrace all who suffer at the foot of the cross. May your priests be holy, filled with the fire of your love seeking nothing but your greater glory and the salvation of souls. Amen. Saint John Vianney, pray for us. 2 Chancellor's Report: I would like to start off by wishing everyone an enjoyable Happy Thanksgiving weekend with family and friends. We pray for the repose of the sole of Tony Thoman s father Anthony who passed Sept 22. Also keep Ray Marentette s grandson little Malik and his family in our deepest prayers as things have entered a new stage with him and it is not good. His daughter Paula also has surgery scheduled for Oct 6 th for cancer which is apparently in one breast; she has to decide which type of surgery to have which obviously is a hard decision for her to make. We pray for the Lord s wisdom and courage as she continues her journey. Keep in mind Scott Trealout s father who had a heart attack and was over in the hospital in Detroit; As well, pray for Roger Vercruysse as he recovers from pneumonia. Congratulations go out to Rachael Orawski as she has taken her first vows in becoming a nun. Let us remember Fr. Rick and all parish priests in this year of prayer for priests. Let us prayer for the sick of the Council, Fr. Chris, Fr. Elie, Ed Cuschieri, Ron Royal, Casey Moody, Guy Riendeau, Pat Harnish, Mark Simpson, Margaret Jezierski, Jack Gelinas & Joe Porto who will be getting a new hip in Nov. and all those in our clustered parishes who are sick. Let us keep in our thoughts the members of our Armed Forces and all the ships at sea. If you know of someone that is in need of our prayers or if you would like to be taken off the prayer list call me at, Or skkenkc@hotmail.com Vivat Jesus Chancellor SK Ken Bosse Grand Knight's Report: My Fellow Brothers, I would like to offer my most profound condolences to Tony Thoman and his Mom and the rest of the Family on the passing of his Dad, Tony. I would also like to Thank Brothers Stan Balakowski, Richard Amlin, Lloyd Grandmaison, and Larry Everaert for attending the prayers for Tony s Dad and showing what we are all about; Tony s Dad was not a Knight but the 4 Brother Knights attended these prayers as a sign of our principles of Unity and Fraternity. Thank You Brothers on behalf of myself and the Council, as we also had an executive meeting that night otherwise there would have been a few more in attendance. I would also like to say to Scott Trealout that we are all praying for your Dad Steve s full recovery from his recent heart attack. I would now like to share something with each and every one of you. As many know, if you have read our Bulletin or the Church bulletin or attended last month s meeting; our Daughter Rachael took her first vows on September 8 th ; Yes the night of the last General meeting, that s why I was not there. I had to be where I was with my wife Diane supporting our Daughter as she professed her vows in a ceremony conducted at the convent in Cambridge. We had not had a visit from her in 2 years and I can honestly say that we had a great 2 weeks with her, and during that time she received many congratulations and this Council was no exception; she received a wonderful card from our Chancellor and the following is her reply to your kindness. I would like to Thank ALL the members of the Knights of Columbus Council #8233 for their thoughtful card of Best Wishes and Congratulations which was sent to me, while I was visiting my parent s home, on the occasion of my profession of First vows. I did not ask nor expect this kind act and was surprised and humbled by it. God Bless!! Yours in Christ, Sister Mary Benedicta (Rachael) Orawski I would like to Thank the Brother Knights who gave of their time and helped me with the precook for the Extreme Build, Thanks Lloyd; and all those Brother Knights who got up very early with me for the next 4 days, Lloyd Grandmaison, Morris Gaffan, Hugh Nolan, Tony Thoman, Scott Trealout, and Glenn Cooper who was our food delivery person all 4 days. A Big Thank You to you all. The Extreme Build was obviously successful as the house was built in less than 4 days; we fed many more people than the Extreme Build Food and Beverage Committee expected. The September Parish breakfast was a success despite the fact that it was held on the Labour Day weekend, and I would like to Thank all those who helped especially who else Lloyd Grandmaison, but also Hugh Noland and Scott Trealout who really dug deep and worked very hard to get us out of the Church basement before 2:30pm; which is a record. I would also like to Thank Morris Gaffan, Danny Nelson, Mike Sultana, Kevin and Corey Wall, Danny Laporte, Richard Laporte, Pat Knights of Columbus 8233 Page 2
3 Kierans, Frank Vlasschaert, Ted Pageau, and Ivan Holmes. If I have missed anyone I apologize and can only say I missed your name because for the first time in more than 2 years I did not have to make any calls for help, Thanks Lloyd. We are approaching the time of the year when we tend to stay indoors as the weather turns colder; I have a great remedy before the winter blues set in, come out to the Parade route for the Migration Festival on October 17 th and see the float that will be carrying some of your Council members as well as the Squires. The Colour Guard from the Fr. Louis Boue Assembly will march right in front of our float, which is the 48 Big Rig of Fred and Rose Postma. Brave Knights, indeed. The next weekend, October 24 th, you could come out to the Lakeside Pavilion and have some fun celebrating and supporting our Council s Annual Oktoberfest. The food is always GREAT and this year we are having a D.J. and that should help us entertain all you dancers; so come on out and support us so that we can help and support those in need. I must also Thank 4 Brother Knights who helped me as I, as Grand Knight, hosted the first General meeting of this fraternal year of the Fr. Louis Boue Assembly at our Hall on September 17 th ; I wish to Thank Viviano Lalap, Morris Gaffan, Danny Nelson and Lloyd Grandmaison as they prepared a really great meal and did a fantastic job serving the Sir Knights in attendance as well as cleaning up afterwards. Thank you Brothers for a job that was well done. Diane and I, would like to wish all our Knights and their Families a very Happy Thanksgiving, we live in a great country and have so much to be Thankful for; may we continue to be Blessed with abundance and also continue to share our bounty with those less fortunate. Please do not be afraid to leave a message or two, I promise that I will get back to you on any matter, as soon as I possibly can. Please, don t forget to recycle any aluminum used in the various cooking that we do at the Hall or the Church basement; use the box provided; I will collect the contents monthly. Our Squires attended camp on Sept. 18 th -20 th in Penetanguishene which is the Provincial Board s First meeting of the year and the installation of their Officers. Our Squires from Constable John Atkinson circle and John Brazil circle or McGregor held the 2nd annual Squires Golf Tournament on the 27th of September. For more exciting news on these two events please read the Squire's report below. In the September 22 nd Kingsville Reporter they had article about Sweet Memories Bakery which Joanne Rocheleau has been cooking up goodies for years. Our council would like to say thanks' for all of cakes (mmm) that Joanne bakes for us and I hope I'm around to taste the next 1000 cakes This month is the start of hunting season, so to all knight's that are hunter's have a safe and successful season. Deputy Grand Knight Steve Benson sk.stevebenson@hotmail.com Fraternally, Steve Benson Squires Report CAMP Knights, our squires youth organization and its councillors have been busy this last month with their annual weekend camp in Penetanguishene and the annual golf tournament (See below). Constable John Atkinson circle would like to thank councillors Dave Gelinas and Ted Rocheleau for there help in driving the squire's to and from camp. At camp we had a total of 8 squires and 3 councillors who made the trip participate in this year's theme of SURVIVOR TRIBE'S GAMES. The games were all different types and lots fun; some Councillors laughed until they cried & if you can believe it, there were faces full of whipped cream and some lucky men got soaked. I think that mostly the squires saw them as big kids and laughed at them a lot. There were a total of 58 squires and 24 councillors who attended the weekend camp. I am sure that the councillors who came will want to come back next year as I think they had more fun than the squires. These worthy Squires also experienced their first provincial meeting of the year and their installation of officers. Financially, camp was $50.00 per person for the weekend. As a way of differing costs, the squires voted to have the circle contribute only $25 and the participating squires paid the other half. GOLF TOURNAMENT The Squires would like to thank all the people that gave as hole sponsors, our Corporate Knights of Columbus 8233 Page 4
5 sponsors and also those that donated door prizes to our golf tournament. Special thanks also goes out to Ken Bosse, Ted Rocheleau, Danny Nelson, Hugh Nolan, Lloyd Grandmaison, Dave Gelinas and our squires for all their help in organizing, cooking, setup and clean up of this event. There were 52 golfers and 4 squires that attended. The weather was good on the course, the meal was tasty. This year's tournament was a very successful one. The golf winners with the best score card get to come back next year at no cost to them; they were 10 under. The luckiest golfer there was our Grand Knight Dan Orawski who won the Grand prize of a 32 inch LCD T.V. from Ernie's T.V. (thanks Ernie). All and all the golf day went very good for everyone that help and participated, so if you missed out this year in coming, we hope to see next year! Esto Dignus (Be Worthy) Chief Councillor Steve Benson Brothers, Wives & Widows, let me present to you the family of the month: Congratulations to Mike & Joanne Weston and there daughters Jackie & Nicole. Here is brief description of the ways in which this family have been involved in the community in the past: Before moving to Kingsville, Mike was Treasurer, Advocate, Lecturer and Past Grand Knight of Council 9793 St. Therese (Windsor). He was also President of the Canadian Ambassadors of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary & Parish Council Chairman - St. Therese Parish. Here in Kingsville, Joanne and Mike were both Readers / Eucharistic Ministers, Right to Life - Life Chain / Parish Rep., Good Friday Ecumenical Way of the Cross - parish rep. and on the RCIA Team - 3yrs. When the girls where small, Joanne started and maintained Children s liturgy at St. Therese and help a bit here as well. Joanne also started and maintained a prayer cenacle here for the past 14 years, she started Divine Mercy hour at St. Michael's in Leamington, and is also a member of our parish CWL. Mike has also been involved in numerous events and activities behind the scenes through the years, they home-schooled their daughters early on and have worked through many hardships as a family. They have been involved with foreign exchange programs by opening their home and have been actively engaged in some area of their church wherever they are. Join me in congratulating this awesome family in their selection of family of the month! Also, please say a special prayer for them in a time of need. Fraternally, Greg Coulter Will You Not Watch One Hour With Me? What do you think? ~Editor Please consider being a foster parent I invite you to contact my wife and I (519) or to contact these agencies in regard to fostering. Windsor/Essex Children s Aid Society, or Chatham/Kent Children s Aid. Is it easy to become a foster parent? Probably not as easy as one might think. There are many questions, some very personal that many may consider uncomfortable and even some training that you will be required to attend; but I want you to imagine what influence you may have on a child... Just ask our past Grand Knight, Brother Ted a former foster child. Please join my family in support of children in need. Become a foster parent today.
