2 Word from the Chaplain Dear Brother Knights and families: After celebrating the K of C Cemetery Sunday, September 25th I came across the following information in regards to Cremation and the Catholic Church. As I am sure many of you are aware, cremation has definitely been on the increase over the past number of years but there are still many questions surrounding the practice of it in the Catholic Church as to what may and may not be done within the Mass of Christian burial. I realize that this message is being read by a limited number of people but I also know that the shared word is a means of getting the message out to greater numbers. Don t hesitate to bring the topic up in conversation and direct any questions to me or ask them to seek out their own parish priest. One thing that is important to know before making plans to cremate and seek a church celebration is to be in contact with the parish priest before finalizing arrangements. An indult from the CDF in 1984 allowed for the practice of cremation and for the cremated remains to be present at the liturgy. The indult assumes that cremation was not done for reasons contrary to the faith. This practice will be clarified in the next printing of the Order of Christian Funerals. There is no date set for the publication of this text. If the body has already been cremated before the funeral liturgy, it may be in place before the liturgy begins or carried up in procession by a member of the family. The urn should never be placed on the altar. Rather, the urn should be placed on a table or stand, in proximity to the altar. Holy water and incense may be used. The Paschal Candle may be lit and placed in close proximity to the urn. The pall may not be used. The ashes should be buried with the same dignity with which one would bury a body. The Final Commendation, Song of Farewell and Prayer of Commendation all take place at the Church. The Rite of Committal should take place at the time the ashes are buried, not at the crematorium. Pastors, deacons and pastoral ministers should avail themselves to this next gathering of the family. It is an opportunity to remind them of our hope in the resurrection, to pray for the deceased and to offer pastoral care. The complete text from the Canadian Catholic Conference of Bishops may be found at (click on the link below): Father Rick Janisse (Chaplain) Gr and Knight B rother Knights and Families As November 11th nears, let us remember the sacrifices that the men and women have made for us, which enables us to have what we have. 3 As always please contact me with any concerns or intentions. Paul Johnson Paul Johnson, Chancellor & Community Director (519) Deputy Grand Knight chancellor Worthy Brothers; It is hard to believe we are now in month 11 of this year. Where did 2016 go? If we look back on this what would we say about it? Would we remember fond memories or melancholy ones? Are we going to change our outlook in 2017? These are just some questions to ponder. I sincerely hope you are all receiving the multiple s I have been sending out. I am trying to keep everyone in the council up to date with the goings on of our brotherhood. If you are not receiving the s please either call or me. My contact information is always at the bottom of this report. If you haven t already noticed, I have been starting to add specific prayers to each intention I send out. please take time to read and pray these as they pertain directly to the intention. Please also let me know what you think of them. Finally please remember in your prayers the Gaffan family whose has lost their wife and mother Janene. Council 8233 has donated to Leamington Hospice in lieu of flowers from the Good of the Order Account. Also please pray for Brother Kevin Wall and his family who have lost his father. Dearest Jesus, who wept at the death of your friend and taught that they who mourn shall be comforted, grant us the comfort of your presence in our loss. Send Your Holy Spirit to direct us, give us courage and to bring us your peace. The Lord has given. The Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Amen. Where are the brothers Knights? November is the month of banquets and our upcoming banquet is a time when we can showcase our achievements and accomplishments to our membership This is a time when we all should get together, have a meal and a good time with our brother Knights and their families. Please make every effort to attend this year s banquet as it is for you, for us It is a special event that we should all attend make every effort to attend. Without the support of our members our counsel will flounder. Oktoberfest was a fun evening although the numbers were down. Everybody that I spoke to had a great time and the food was amazing, music was good, the dancing was awesome. All of the Brother Knights, wives and Squires who helped out made it a smooth event and it was well organized, except that I forgot to put out the tomato salad and nearly forgot the coleslaw, but I hand delivered it to every guest table by table. We are also having a soup and sandwich lunch on November 13 and are requesting soup donations so start thinking what kind of soup you are going to make. As always we are going to show our appreciation to our veterans at the memorial service at the cenotaph on Remembrance Day so it would be great to see a lot of Knights out at this service. Finally, I want to again ask my brother Knights a question. what can we do as an organization to re kindle interest in attending our events I want to hear from you. 5 Remember when. Looking through these Council Bulletins is such fun for me. Thank you Ted Rocheleau for letting me do this. The recurring theme in the month of November is of course Remembrance Day on the 11th. In 2007 our Chancellor Dan Orawski reminded us of the importance of this day in history and how it came about. Remembrance Day is November 11th, and I can remember for the longest time that it was a holiday and we didn t have to go to school or work, but in the early 70 s it was taken off the official list of holidays for what ever reason governments do these things, and it then became a holiday only for those who were veterans. The original reason that this day became a holiday was to commemorate the end of World War 1; The Great War; which ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in the year We were to remember the great loss of life that was achieved with weapons that were of the new age of technology, which proved to be very effective. We were to remember the horrors and waste of wars so that we would never go to war again. Well, as we all know only 21 years later there would be another war and we seem to not learn by our mistakes. I can only say that we live in a great country and we are here because so many people gave the ultimate sacrifice during these wars so that we and our children can live in Peace. I am truly grateful for their sacrifices and I believe that we should never forget them and the far away places where they fell and died. So, on this November 11th at 11:00am; PLEASE stop all that you are doing and for 1 minute or 2 stand, or sit, or kneel and remember all the men and women that gave of themselves in those distant lands, say a prayer and say Thank you. Tony Ciancio Vocations corner Meet our new seminarians! Dear brother Knights, For the next few months I will be introducing our five new seminarians for the Diocese of London. They have graciously provided a short vocation story of their journey thus far. Please keep them in prayer. Sincerely, Fr. Patrick Bénéteau Director of Vocations and Seminarians, Diocese of London Vocations Websites: Seminarian Bryan Connel Holy Name of Jesus Parish, Essex Theology I My home parish is Holy Name of Jesus, located in Essex, Ontario. It is the start of my vocation story. Being at Holy Name of Jesus, I had the honour of meeting some wonderful individuals who put tremendous effort into cultivating the lives of our parish youth. In Essex, our youth ministry provided a multiplicity of opportunity to explore the faith and to contemplate vocations. By the grace of God and the hard work of many parishioners, Holy Name of Jesus Parish developed an environment where I could think freely about my faith and my purpose in the world. Then at 16 yrs old, I attended a Christ in Others Retreat (COR) and I learned about unconditional love, and the value of having that kind of love for others. This was a pivotal point in my life because it enabled me to see the goodness in all things. Fr. Patrick Beneteau was the chaplain on that retreat and he reached out to me about discernment of the priesthood. He suggested that I should attend a Come and See weekend and in the fall of 2011, my first time at St. Peter s Seminary, was a wonderful experience that helped me to further discern my call to the priesthood. With many mentors by my side and with a tremendous amount of support, I was able to make an informed decision about my vocation to priestly formation five years later. I graduated from Essex District High school as an Ontario Scholar achieving Honours. Then I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a specialization in Philosophy and a minor in Sociology at King s University College (Western University). I ve had so many wonderful life changing experiences at King s, and one of the highlights was working for Campus Ministry. As part of the Campus ministry team, I was serving Christ and community and this was one of the main motivators for me to enter St. Peter s Seminary. I am so grateful for all the opportunities I ve had in my life, and can t wait to experience what is yet to come. Thank you to everyone who has been there with me along the way. Your love, support, and prayers mean the world to me. God Bless!

6 Squires Camp I ve had hundreds of women and men tell me about their abortion experiences. The pain, regret and sorrow of an abortion does not go away overnight. And the rhetoric of the abortion industry and the slogans of politicians do not bring healing. Whether it s a woman who had an abortion 10, 20, or even 30 years ago -- or a boyfriend who paid for an abortion -- the pain is there. Your prayer presence is often an invitation to healing. Can we talk? is a frequent question at a vigil from strangers who just walk up. It could be some who s thinking about abortion... or someone who s has an abortion. Receiving Br. Barnabus Award Seeing the prayer vigil day after day serves as a witness to God s love and mercy. 40 Days for Life is certainly a conversation starter. Sometimes that conversation may have been decades in the making... so never underestimate how God will use your presence! 8 Life insurance is a combination of caring, commitment and common sense. Howard Wight LIFE INSURANCE FOR EVERY STAGE OF LIFE Most people will need more life insurance when they reach 65 than they need at 35, if they are married with two children and a mortgage. Times have changed, but many advisors are still selling life insurance as if people are going to die at 65 years of age. With today s mortality tables, people need longterm, permanent life insurance. The current statistics show that for every 100 people starting their careers at age 25, by the time they are 65, only 13 will be dead. That means 87 are still alive. There s a good chance they ll need more life insurance then than they do now. They will need personal permanent life insurance. The old axiom is still true that people are going to die before 65 or after 65 - one or the other. Most will die after 65. The older they get, the more needs they have. We want to be selling life insurance for all stages of life. Shown below is an outline that we ve prepared showing the importance of life insurance for every stage in life.
