The matter has become a problem of the utmost mportance snce the safety of every student depends m the mmedate Btoppng of ths practce. Thoughtless smokers who persst n throwng ther lghted cgarettes on the floors ar< endangerng the lves am property of each one of us here at S.T.C. There are no fre proof buldngs on our campus. They are protected by sprnkler systems whch lessen the danger of fre. However, we cannot emphasze too strongly the fact tha death and dstncton result from fres n the mosl modern freproof buldngs. As t now stands, just one smolderng "butt" cast down by one careless smoker could ntate an undreamed-of halocaust. Receptacles rfor burned cgarettes are provded at the head and foot of each starway n the College except n Cunnngham where they should be nstalled, am there are ash trays n the second and thrd floor lounges n the man buldng. t s also an offense to smoke n the Rotunda and on the frst floor. The trend of feelng among Conservatves, many Lberals, and foregn dplomat-, outstandngly Secretary of State Marshall, s tha nternatonal communsts are responsble for the outbreak n Bogota, ndeed the whole affar lterally reeks wth the stench of communsts, who seem to have been employng more and mure the old ">n.de and rule" polcy, At press tme, t hasn't been yet decded where or even whether tn resume the nter-amercan Conference, t must be resumed quckly at all costs; The Amercas must strengthen and reunte themselves n a common efforl to check the menace of communsm. t la left for a young and healthy.north and Smth Amerca to mend the nearly rotten peces nf the rest of the world. VERSER'S.lust Receved A Lot Of Samsonte Luggage VERSER'S We snr fa 'leasr" The "New Look' has been the most talked about thng ths pas) year exclusve of the R ;, stuaton. So far t has been lke the weather everybody talks about t, but no one does anythng about t. There s lttle doubt, though, that the women lke t much better than the men. Ths has been proven by the polls taken on the subject. n a recent wrte-up n Woman's Day magazne, one promnent man stated that a thn woman looked as f she were a bean pole n a ballerna skn and a heavy woman looked as f she were a walkng ran barrel He went on to state that unless a woman was a perfect 5 feet 5 nches tall and weghed 20, the looked Perfectly revoltng n the latest styles. Poll after poll was taken last summer n the ctes by the local newspapers gettng the men's opnon on the subject. Ther opnons were defntely not n favor of t. Even the women grped at frst. They remarked.that they lutely would not wear the latest styles, and ths would cause the clothng manufacturer! to change back. The argument was "women versus manufacturers." The manufacturers won. The women have softened and are actually eras] about the "New Look" n most of ts phases. The "New Look'' has dsadvantages, however. The gre one s the stran on the pocket book n order to secure a com- pletely new wardrobe. f one was fortunate enough to have a hem n some old clothes, t helped matters a good deal. The dffculty n havng to take smaller stepand the dffculty of havng to step on trans and etc., s an mportant factor to be consdered also.
