The faculty, town mnsters and students were all presenl and everyone seemed to enjoy the delghtful program. Of course, the new grls were guests of honor, and the frst part of the evenng was gven, over to dancng and "gettng acquant- ed." Mebane Hunt sang several lovely! electons and Alce Davs of Norfolk,' new student, proved herself a 'fnd,' n the songbrd lne. Lorah Brewer gave a muscal readng wth a muscal accompanment by Vrgna Burks. Eleanor Bennett pepped up all wth several songs and Vrgna Vncent and Vrgna Potts rendered a pano? duet. After refreshments were served, the Farmvlle Band entertaned wth selectons out on the campus. All n all, t was a jolly gatherng ths frst affar of the year for makng Freshmen at home and acquanted. DRAMATIC CLUB ELECTS OFFICERS The Dramatc Club held the frst meetng of the year on Monday nght, at whch tme offcers were elected. The club decded to have "try-outs" for membershp on Monday nght, October fourth at seven-thrty. A "try-out" commttee was elected, whch conssted of, Lucy Hale Overbey, Louse Brewer, Louse McCormck, Mss Wheeler and Mss Lews. Offcers were elected to serve durng the years U»2t-!>27. Radcal Patton Muscal Drector Vrgna Potts THINK IT OVER Due to the fact that Sara Fox, nd Maron Chewnng dd not return o school, the postons of Edtor-n- Chef and Assstant Edtor of The Vrgna are vacant. We are more than sorry that these grls aren't wth us, and we wll mss them many tmes. However, we must have someone to take ther places. An electon wll BOOH be held and we wll be asked to nomnate a grl to take the places. So, thnk t over, don't have to nomnate on the spur of the moment, be prepared to vote ntellgently. Besdes these vacances there s a most mportant poston on the Student Commttee whch must be flled. Paulne Stallard, Charman of Cam us League has decded to lve n town ths year, so we must elect someone to take her place. We'll have to thnk agan, let's have our motto, "Be Prepared" and have a 00 per cent ntellgent electon. LARGEST ENROLLMENT IN HISTORY OF COLLEGE FRESHMEN VIEW THEMSELVES Monday nght, the Freshmen were afforded an exce! ent opportunty to vew "themselves as others see them," and the old grls saw themselves as they used to be. "Red" Foster a.d Eleanor Bennett represented two types of Freshmen the one, happy, l..ughng, ready and wllng to serve, to grow and develop; the other, bored, "grped to death," sour on the world. One joned the V. W. C. A., was tager to respond to the call of Jacke Woodson seekng Freshmen for Athletcs, to offer her servces for our college paper, The Rotunda, and to.-.art the year rght by keepng all rales. Eleanor was truly bored, tred, and weary, because she had not entered nto the varous actvtes; she had not caught the sprt of S. T. C. After talkng wth an old grl, she fnally decded that she was mssng somethng and that she would gve her best and try to be the deal Freshman. She could lead beers and songs, as she afterward proved. Now, we're expectng all the Freshmen to fall n lne, catch the Farmvlle sprt, and spend a glorous year n the best place n the world! PATRONIZE THE TEA ROOM Freshmen, have you seen the Tea Room? No? Well, just ask any old grl to show you the way to t. Of course our dnng room food s excellent, but occasonally one does lke to order exactly what one lkes. Then agan, you may have specal guests you want a prvate talk wth take them to the Tea Room. The tttdenfs famles always seem to enjoy a meal there and Mrs. Smth and Ms. Gsh have gone to extra trouble ths year to make t unusually attractve. Show them your apprecaton by patronzng them, and remember that the proceeds go toward the Student Buldng. TO THE ALUMNAE Dear Alumnae: Are you nterested n your Alma Mater? 'reulaton Manager NINE HUNDRED AND FORTY STUDENTS REGISTER Mort Students Canddates for Degre Than Ever /.'. fort S. T. C. record has been broken agan and broken n three ways. There are nne hundred and forty students regstered, one hundred more than last year. Out of these students three hundred and eghty-sx are canddates for a degrew ths year whch beats all former records by thrty-fve. There were forty one last year. The freshman class ths year Is ndeed a large one n s/.e, they base at present a total of lon hundred and forty members. The sophomores aren't so far behnd, n fact they have the unusually large class of three hundred and thrty-fve. There are not qute so manj Junors ths year as there were last, due to the fact that every other year the sophomore class s larger. Last year we had a small sophomore class and a large freshman class. So that ths year we have a large sophomore class and not qute such a majorty of freshmen. Out of the sophomore class of last year there are sxty-nne b.o I. for a degree. Wth such a large student body, there s no doubt but what wonder ful thngs may be accomplshed. It s very gratfyng to realze that more grls are enterng each year wth the dea of contnung untl the) have acqured that nvaluable degree. Athletc am all other contests between classe-s should he unusually even ths year snce n the senorsophomore classes there an' a total 0 fou hundred and thrty one students, whle n the junor-freshman classes there are a total of lve hundred anl nne students. Gvng the red and whte an advantage of seventy eght grls. Contests were close last year, and the cup came near stayng neutral, the red and whte won, but watch out for freworks ths year. Wth the very new dvson we should have some close contests, that wll BOOK up all our best sportsmanshp. We have a new teacher, Mss Thomas, and we wsh to extend a hearty welcome to her. She has some Freshman Physcal Educaton and the two new courses n ths lepartment, Anatomy and Correctve Gymnasum. These courses are open to Sophomores, Junors and Senors and were formed especally for those mnorng In Physcal Educaton. We are very proud that we have the courses offered for those who wsh to mnor n Physcal Educaton, and n a few yean we hope to have all the courses and facltes necessary and can offer a degree n Physcal Educaton. Another new course offered for Sophomores, Junors and Senors s one n Natural Dancng; ths s to be offered In the Wnter and Sprng terms antl may be elected by Junors nstead Of Physcal Educaton 8 and 9. Freshmen may elect ths f approved by Mss Barlow, the nstructor n ths class. Mss Barlow has all Sophomore ffymn ths year. Mss B. E. 0.
