2 Pre class a ct v t Preclass Centers As the chldren arrve, gude them to a preclass center. Have no more than sx chldren at each center. Materals Use the materals prevously selected for ths unt s preclass centers. Preparaton 1. Be sure to check the condton of the materals selected for ths unt s preclass centers pror to set up. Replace any broken toys, or puzzles wth mssng peces as necessary. 2. Set up the centers before the chldren come nto the classroom. 3. Assgn a teacher to each center and have the teachers stay n those centers untl the sngng begns. Instructons Gude the play n each center renforcng the unt theme. Teacher Tps IMPORTANT: Do not allow any small toys n the classroom. Frst check all toys for sze. You can obtan a safety cylnder from a pedatrcan. Any object that can ft nto the cylnder s too small and could cause a chld to choke. Be nvolved n the group play and offer gudance as needed. Wear comfortable clothes sutable for sttng on the floor. 3 B b l e S t o r y Phlp Makes a Dscple The chldren wll hear how Phlp taught the Ethopan to become a dscple. Bble Story Text Acts 8:26-38 Materals For the teacher: Bble large box utlty knfe scssors blue constructon paper, 4" x 4" tape markers or crayons 2 large craft stcks Reproducble Pages: Page A, 1 copy for the teacher Page B, 1 copy for the teacher Preparaton 1. Cut out and color the Phlp and the Ethopan fgures and the charot from the copes of Reproducble pages A and B. 2. Tape a craft stck to the back of each fgure makng t a puppet. 3. Create a puppet stage as follows: A. Fold n the open flaps of a large box. See Fgure A. B. Place the box on ts sde and cut a slt along the top edge. See Fgure B. 4. Glue the followng to the box. See Fgure C. A. Cut a 4" x 4" pece of blue constructon paper and glue t to the front of the box n front of the slt. Ths wll be the water. B. Glue the charot on the oposte sde of the water. 5. Practce tellng the story wth the stage and the puppets. The Ethopan Have all of the chldren st n a crcle and place the stage on your lap. Today we are gong to see a puppet show! Open the Bble. The Bble says that a long tme ago there was a man who had a bg heart for God. Show the Ethopan puppet. Pont to hs heart. Let the chldren have a turn touchng hs heart. The Ethopan was a very specal man because he had a heart that wanted to love God! That means he wanted to learn as much about God as he could. Where can you learn about God? Yes, at church or n the Bble. Ths man was comng from church and he was readng hs Bble. We do not know ths man s name, but we do know that he was from the country of Ethopa. That s why he s called the Ethopan. Can you say that? One day the Ethopan was rdng along n hs charot. Show the chldren the charot. Insert the Ethopan puppet stck through the slt n the stage behnd the charot. H, boys and grls! Guess who I am? I am the Ethopan! Guess what I am dong? I am rdng n my charot! Guess what else I am dong? I am readng the Bble, but I don t understand what I am readng. I wsh I had someone to help me! What wll I do? Show the chldren the Phlp fgure. H, boys and grls! My name s Phlp. Can you say Phlp? I am a dscple, and I love to teach other people about Jesus. I m lookng for someone who loves God and wants to learn about Jesus. An angel told me I should travel down ths road (Acts 8:26). Do you know anyone who would lke to study the Bble wth me? Let the chldren answer. Who? Where? Oh, there! That guy there? Do you thnk he wll study the Bble? Do you thnk he wants to know about Jesus? Have Phlp run to the charot wth the Ethopan nsde. H, my name s Phlp. What are you readng? I am readng the Bble, but I don t understand t. Can you help me? Yes! I d love to help you understand the Bble. Phlp got rght up nsde the charot wth the Ethopan. Insert the Phlp puppet stck nto the slt besde the Ethopan. They had a Bble Study rght there n the charot! And do you thnk the Ethopan wanted to love Jesus? Yes, he dd! (Acts 8:27-35). And when they got to some water the Ethopan sad, Look, here s water. Why shouldn t I be baptzed? The Bble says they stopped the charot and got down and Phlp baptzed the Ethopan (Acts 8:36-38). Have the fgures get out of the charot and go down to the water. Have them hug and rejoce together. Have all of the chldren clap for the Ethopan s baptsm. Learn the Bble Fngerplay from the Unt 22 Song Sheet. Instructons Show the chldren the Bble. Who can tell me what ths s? Yes, ths s the Bble! Who wrote the Bble? That s rght, God dd! Are the stores n the Bble real, or are they pretend? They are real! Who remembers what Jesus told the dscples to do n the Bble? He sad, Go! What do Jesus dscples do? Dscples Go where Jesus says to go. Jesus says to go and share the Bble. Today we are gong to play a game about sharng the Bble. St wth the chldren n a crcle. Hold the Bble n your lap. When the musc starts, I am gong to pass the Bble. When the Bble comes to you, pass t to the frend sttng next to you. When the musc stops, hold on to the Bble. We wll see who s holdng t when the musc stops. When you are ready, start the musc. Pass the Bble to a chld sttng next to you. Encourage each chld to pass the Bble to the chld next to them. After t has gone around the group at least once, stop the musc. Who has the Bble? Stephen does! Yeah! Stephen can learn about Jesus n the Bble. We shared the Bble wth Stephen. Repeat the game, varyng the length of the musc each tme. Make sure that each chld has a chance to hold the Bble when the musc stops. Bble Truth Actvty Open the Bble. The Bble s God s Word. We obey the Bble. We obey God, and we obey Jesus when we obey the Bble. In the Bble, Jesus says, Go. Can you say go? Let s all say that together. Jesus says, Bronson, wll you obey Jesus and go? 7 C r a f t In the Desert The chldren wll make a pcture of Phlp and the Ethopan to remnd them that Phlp taught the Ethopan about Jesus. Materals For each chld: 1 pece of lght-colored constructon paper, 9" x 12" 1 pece of yellow constructon paper, 2" x 2" 1 pece of black constructon paper, 2" x 1 1 / 4" 1 pece of brown constructon paper, 1" x 5" 2 peces of green constructon paper, 2" x 5" 1 pece of sandpaper or brown paper, 2" x 7" 1 pece of blue cellophane, 2" x 6" 1 pece of red felt, 1" x 1" glue stck crayons For the teacher: scssors marker glue Reproducble Pages: Page C, 1 copy for the teacher Page D, 1 copy for each chld Preparaton 1. Cut out the stencls from the copy of Reproducble Page C. 2. Usng the stencls, trace and cut out each of the followng shapes for each chld: A. a heart from red felt B. a sun from yellow constructon paper C. a tree trunk from brown constructon paper D. two palm fronds from green constructon paper E. the ground from sandpaper F. water from blue cellophane (2" x 6") G. a Bble from black constructon paper (2" x 1 1 / 4") NOTE: Fold t n half to make a 1" x 1 1 / 4" Bble. 3. Cut out the Phlp and the Ethopan fgures from the copes of Reproducble Page D. 4. On each pece of lght-colored constructon paper wrte, Phlp taught the Ethopan. 5. Glue the followng shapes onto a pece of lght-colored constructon paper for each chld. See Fgure A: A. Glue the sandpaper ground on the bottom left sde of the paper. B. Glue the tree trunk on top of the ground on the left edge of the paper. C. Glue the sun n the upper rght corner of the paper. 6. Make a model of the craft followng the nstructons. Instructons 1. Show the chldren the model of the craft. Read the ttle of the page. You are each gong to make a pcture of Phlp and the Ethopan so you can remember to teach your frends about God and nvte them to Bble class. 2. Gve each chld a sheet of constructon paper and two palm fronds. Have them glue the fronds to the top of the tree. 3. Gve each chld a pece of cellophane to glue to the bottom rght of the paper next to the ground. 4. Gve each chld a Phlp fgure and an Ethopan fgure to glue next to each other on the ground. 5. Gve each chld a heart to glue onto the Ethopan. 6. Gve each chld a Bble to glue n between the two fgures. 7. Wrte each chld s name on hs craft. Materals For each chld: 1 / 2 tolet paper tube 1 ppe cleaner 2 brass fasteners 1 pece of poster board, 3" x 4" crayons or markers For the teacher: plastc dsposable gloves hole punch scssors push pn tape Reproducble Pages: Page E, 1 copy for each chld Page F, 1 copy for each chld Preparaton 1. Cut out the Ethopan and the Phlp fgures from the copes of Reproducble Page E. 2. Fold out the bottom flaps at the dotted lnes. Glue the two fgures back to back. 3. Cut out the horses from the copes of Reproducble Page F. 4. Fold out the bottom flaps at the dotted lnes. Glue the two horses together, back to back. 5. Punch a hole n each horse where t wll be attached to the charot. 6. Cut out the wheel stencl from the copes of Reproducble Page F. 7. Prepare two wheels for each chld as follows: A. Trace and cut out the wheel from poster board. B. Make a small hole n the center of each wheel wth a push pn. 8. Prepare a charot for each chld as follows: A. Cut each tolet paper tube n half. See Fgure A. B. Punch two holes n one end of the half tube to hold the rens for the horse. C. Poke a hole n each sde of the half tube wth a push pn. D. Attach the wheels to the tube by pushng a brass fastener through the hole n the wheel and then through the hole n the half tube. Do ths on each sde. See Fgure B. 9. Make a model of the craft. Instructons 1. Show the chldren the model of the craft. Who ran up to the Ethopan s charot? That s rght! Phlp dd! Phlp taught the Ethopan about Jesus. 2. Gve each chld a Phlp and an Ethopan fgure and a horse to color. 3. Gve each chld a charot and help them to glue the fgure nto t. 4. Gve each chld a ppe cleaner and help them to thread t through the horse and then attach each end through the holes n the charot. 5. Wrte each chld s name on the horse.
