Mltary experts advsng Reds, defector says SAIGON (AP) - Sovet, Chnese, Cuban, North Korean and French "mltary strategsts" are advsng Communst-led forces fghtng n South Vetnam, a hgh-rankng defector from Hano clamed Tuesday. He sad the Frenchmen were former prsoners of war from the French Indochna conflct who were not repatrated under the 954 Geneva accords. The defector s Dr. Dang Tan, a former offcal n North Vetnam's Defense Mnstry sent to South Vetnam as "mnster of publc health" n a proposed revolutonary government. HE SAID HE personally saw foregn Communst advsers at rest statons' }>n the Ho Ch Mnh tral when he traveled south through Laos n 967. In the next two years, whle he was establshng a guerrlla hosptal n South Vetnam's Pleku Provnce,Tan sad, he saw "four or fve groups of foregn mltary strategsts, each numberng three to fve men." They always carred arms, usually wore black pajamas and were nvarably accompaned by "large securty forces" of North Vetnamese solders, he sad. TAN, «, SPOKE to the Assocated Press through an nterpreter n hs frst ntervew snce hs defecton Sept. 26, 969. He later appeared at a news conference, but t was not explaned why he had been kept under wraps by Sagon's Cheu Ho-open arms-mnstry for more than \h years. Tan's revelatons could help to explan recurrng reports of Caucasans seen fghtng wth Vet Cong and North Vetnamese unts. These never have been proved conclusvely because U.S. and South Vetnamese forces have never found any Caucasan bodes among enemy dead. Asked f some of the foregn advsers mght have been Amercan prsoners of war, Tan repled: "No. Hano propaganda says Amercan GIs are fghtng wth the VC-NVA but I have never seen ths wth my own eyes. "THE MEN I saw were Russans, Chnese, Cubans, North Koreans and French. They came south to study the battlefelds, to study the stuaton and see how they could help. I have seen them deep n South Vetnamese terrtory. I have heard them speakng ther foregn languages." Tan attrbuted hs defecton to gradual dsllusonment-"no one reason but a lot of lttle reasons over a long perod of tme. I just began to feel communsm was outdated, not a sutable system of government for a country." Meanwhle, U.S. B52s resumed bombng rads n South Vetnam yesterday followng a weekend cease-fre perod durng whch they concentrated solely on targets n Laos and Camboda. Forum vews ROTC as st-n contnues About 200 students gathered on the steps of the Student Servces Froum last nght to dscuss the pros and cons of ROTC as part of the Unversty currculum. The open forum evolved from the Memoral Hall st-n protestng the presence of ROTC on campus. The st-n s now n ts sxth day. Jm Kellar, graduate student and spokesman for the group, sad a proposal to elmnate credt for ROTC wll be ntroduced to Academc Councl. He predcted acton on the matter by the end of ths week. A REFERENDUM VOTE had been consdered, but Kellar sad that enough students would probably not turn out to make the ballot sgnfcant. A mltary veteran who opposes ROTC's presence on campus sad the program does not beneft anyone, even those n the program, because the "mckey mouse crap that goes on around here lke carryng wood sn't preparng anyone for fghtng n the feld." Former BGSU student Crag Talaferro, sad he s sttng n front of ROTC offces because he does not beleve n volence of any knd - ether In the war, or n opposton to the war. "I SUPPORT Assocate Dean of Students Derek Dckensen's attempt to keep the Unversty open, because t must be kept open, however I cannot condone hs appontment of vglante groups to keep students from enterng buldngs," Talaferro sad. Talaferro made three personal demands to Unversty offcals: - abolsh academc credt for ROTC courses. - remove ROTC from the Unversty campus. - establsh a drug orentaton program for ncomng freshmen. TALIAFERRO SAID he has begun fastng and wll contnue "untl death" f hs demands are not met by June 9. Frank Tucker, Brg. Commander of Army ROTC and Lowell Wenger, ROTC cadet, answered questons concernng the programs on campus. Tucker sad that he feels ROTC does not teach ndvduals to obey orders blndly. He sad that cadets are taught not to obey llegal orders. ANOTHER AIR Force cadet who had been leaflettng n favor of ROTC, sad he doesn't beleve the Unversty s takng a mltarstc stand merely because ROTC exsts on campus. He ponted out that ROTC s not requred and that although some people vew the program as repressve, t represents a freedom of personal choce to hm. Student thess ctes problems Mgrants fnd job hunt dffcult By Mary Blake Mgrant workers comng to Wood County n search of jobs have a hard tme fndng work. Accordng to a study done by Wade Cho, graduate student n geography, other states are gradually elmnatng the need for mgrant labor through the ncreased use of farm machnes, but Oho stll has a need for seasonal workers. As a result, many of them wll come to Wood County-but there aren't enough jobs to go around. "Snce Oho has a good reputaton for welfare, health programs and schools for mgrants, they come here to take advantage of the facltes," sad Cho. "Wood County can provde servces for small famly groups, but mgrants tend to travel n large numbers." Involved wth mgrant workers all hs lfe, Cho has been workng wth the Oho Bureau of Employment for the past fve years and was responsble for helpng mgrants n fndng work n Wood County. Several aspects of the mgrant problem were explored n.cho's master's thess. Hs paper smanly nformatve and emphaszes the mgrant problem as a system-a common lfe style among mgrants from Texas and Florda to Wood County. CHIO'S THESS delves nto such questons as the economc condtons that cause mgrants to leave home, the factors that demand seasonal labor, and the patterns followed by mgrants enterng Wood County. "We don't know when we wll be able to talk to her." Mss TUlotson's clothes have been sent to the Bureau of Crmnal Identfcaton and Investgaton laboratory at Fremont for flammablty tests. Mss Tllotson s the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John Tllotson, 2227 W. Hgh St., to Wood County are a lack of good housng and jobs. Snce 965, there has been a consstent program here to upgrade housng, sad Cho. The Presdent's Councl of Mgrant Labor ssued a set of regulatons for housng that farmers must follow In order to obtan state help n gettng nterstate mgrant labor. However, these regulatons were neffectve because farmers could get mgrant labor wthout state help. Fnally, pressure from local governments forced the state to pass strcter housng regulatons. Then some farmers turned to machnes, elmnatng the need for mgrants. VARIOUS AGENCIES ad the mgrant when he gets here. The Wood County Welfare Department plays an mportant part n helpng the mgrant, snce the federal government made mgrants elgble to receve welfare benefts. Local health clncs have been establshed and the Legal Ad Socety offers free legal advce to mgrants who have trout le wth work contracts and other legal problems. 3 Poge 2/Tht BG News, Tuesday, May, 97 god's wll n war In 905, novelst Mark Twan composed one of the best satres of the fne art of warfare ever wrtten. Called "The War Prayer," It reads: "Oh Lord our Father, our young patrots, dols of our hearts, go forth n battle-be Thou near them I Wth thenv- In sprt we also go forth from the sweet peace of our beloved fresdes to smte the foe. O Lord our God, help us to tear ther solders to bloody shreds wth our shells; help us to cover ther smlng felds wth the pale forms of ther patrot dead; help us to drown the thunder of ther guns wth the shreks of ther wounded, wrthng to wrng the hearts of ther unoffendng wdows wth unavalng gref; help us to turn them out roofless w*h ther lttle chldren to wander unfrended the wastes of ther desolated land n rags and hunger and thrst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the cy wnds of wnter, broken n sprt, worn wth traval, mplorng Thee for the refuge of the grave and dened t for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast ther hopes, blght ther lves, protract ther btter plgrmage, make heavy ther steps, water ther way wth ther tears, stan the whte snow wth the blood of ther wounded feetl We ask t, n the sprt of love, of Hm who s the Source of Love, and who s the ever-fathful refuge and frend of all that are sore beset and seek Hs ad wth humble and contrte hearts. Amen." The mpact of Twan's pseudo-prayer s n Its not-toosubtle slam at hypocrtcal "Chrstans" who preach brotherly love on one hand, and clamor for glorous war aganst all who oppose The Amercan Way of Lfe on the other. We were remnded last weekend, however, that the satre stll holds true today. Fundamentalst preacher. Rev. Carl Mclntre, held another of hs "Vctory In Vetnam Now" ralles In Washngton. He and 5,000 of hs followers nssted Presdent Nxon get tough In Vetnam and "use the sword as God Intended." We've heard alot of so-called justfcatons for the Indochna bloodbath n recent years, but we thought "God's Wll" went out wth the crusades. Unless Mclntre and hs apostles took Twan's "prayer" too lterally, we fear they must have gotten caught up n some neo-roman relgous sect or somethng. Our only concluson can be that ther dety s of the ancent Roman type...mars, god of war, perhaps.»ur man hoppt presdent goes crackers By Arthur Hoppe Natonal Columnst It was on March 4,973 - Just two months nto hs frst term of offce - that the Presdent of the Unted States went crackers. The loyalty of hs staff, lke all Whte House staffs, was frst of all to the Presdent. Naturally, they agreed mmedately that the fact he was nutter than a frutcake must be kept from the publc at all costs. For several months all went well. The Presdent occuped hmself cuttng out and tryng on paper crowns and mters. The staff ssued the requste number of nnocuous statements on current affars. And t was sx months before people began sayng, "Funny, don't thnk I've seen the Presdent lately." "Mr. Presdent," sad the staff member carefully, "poor famles on the surplus food program are currently recevng only chck peas and lard." "Let them," sad the Presdent grandly, "eat cake." THE REACTION TO ncludng a Sara Lee Fudge Cake n every food package was predctable. Those who had voted for the Presdent because of hs broad smle or hs poltcal party, called It "a humantaran gesture that spells the end of hunger n Amerca." Those who had voted aganst hm because of hs close-set eyes or hs poltcal party, called t "an act of welfare coddlng that wll further sap ths Naton's moral fber." Sx months later, the staff was forced to act agan. In fact, I've been dsapponted snce I've come up here ths last January. Prevously I had read and heard so much about our newyouth rdng a gant wave of humantsm that I was qute eager to Jon. But alas, t seems as f ths pcture was greatly dstorted. From my own contacts wth people, I could hardly fnd a rpple breakng the monotony of our present socety. I wonder f those marches were a stone worth tossng Into the pool. FIRST OF ALL t was supposed to be a solemn and serous processon. From my poston n the group, the only solemn effort I saw of many members was to get n front of the cameras. These people seemed to have mssed or dstorted the purpose of the march, the commemoraton of the loss of lfe by many thousands of people because of flagrant msuses of power. It was not to see f you could get your pcture on the front of BG News. It remnded me of a crcus paradt. The curous townes lned up on the sdewalk vewng the strange sghts of the "radcal" youths dsplayng themselves. Man, the deals behnd the march and the peace movements are great thngs, but what happens to the other 364 days n the year? Do we have to be occasonally wakened up for a couple of days only to fall back nto a trance of apathy? People, you've got to realze that to effectvely change thngs you've got to endorse and put nto practce constructve plans of change.. You have tremendous power potental. Someone suggested we boycott the stores uptown for a day. Hell, let's boycott for a week or a month! If you want to hurt the present establshment, you've got to ht them square n the Jaw, not Just pnch a lttle of ther behnds. THERE ARE SEVERAL attempts pcked a day when the Presdent thought he was Mahatma Ghand and asked hm on natonwde televson hs vews on war and peace. Unfortunately, ten seconds before ar tme, the Presdent had transmogrfed nto Napoleon Bonaparte. He thus twrled the globe by hs desk, stuck a pn n t and cred, "Allons, mes enfants!" The New Left sewed up Ugulap flags, decred "Wall Street ol barons" and smashed 32 drug store wndows to halt "Captalst explotaton of ndgenous natve socal struggles." Pro-Admnstraton columnsts and Congressmen defended the move on the grounds that "as Ugulap goes, so goes the Mbongan Sea." Most ntellectuals also approved of the Presdent's statement because he sad t n French. In Peora, Oho, however, a small boy watched the Presdent on televson and Innocently asked, "How come the Presdent's a cuckoo-eyed loony?" But no one lstens to small boys, except ther mothers. Ths one's mother washed hs mouth out wth soap. And 54.6 per cent of the publc sad they approved of the way the Presdent was handlng hs Job. Fortunately, at the end of four years he reganed hs santy and was easly re-elected. These people are workng for your welfare on ther own tme tryng to use ther power to gan a defnte vctory over people takng advantage of you, the student. ^^sa^ It does occur to me that maybe you all are satsfed to smply stck your noses nto the furrows made by those before you, breathng n the dust and drt, and wallowng n all the snot and slobber, not lookng up at all to see whch way you're gong. Other women were dressed as past Mss Amerca's from the 920's, 40's and SO's. UNIVERSITY OFFICIALS dd not attempt to nterfere wth the demonstrators as they sang about "Amerca's prme commodty" - women - - and urged busness to "make a proft off her meat." Demonstrators passed out leaflets explanng the purpose of the protest to frends and relatves of contestants and pageant offcals as they entered the Grand Ballroom. Included n the leaflets were copes of a letter sent by the organzaton to the contestants earler last week. Although the group stressed that they were not opposed to the contestants personally, ther letter lsted seven objectons to beauty contests n general and the Mss Bowlng Green Pageant n partcular. He explaned that although student rooms are not nspected ndvdually, they are checked when mantenance crews clean between quarters. BEATTY ALSO SAID that dorms are bascally fre-proof structures and that the rugs and draperes surpass even the strctest state requrements. 7 Pag. 6/The BG News, Tuesday, May, 97 Stckers wn thrd n row, 8-4 By Jack Carle Assstant Sport! Edtor Bruce Corrcll' fve goals led the Bowlng Green lacrosse team to ther thrd wn n a row, an S-4 trumph over Oho Unversty. The total of fve goals tes the school record that s held by a total of eght Falcons. Correll s the only stcker to make the lst twce as he also pumped home fve goals aganst Oho U. last year. For a whle t looked lke Correll would break the school record as four of hs fve talles came n the frst half of play. However, he ddn't score hs ffth goal untl there were four mnutes left n the game. So far thus season Correll has 2 goals and wth two games remanng he needs nne scores to break the school scorng record for one season. Also n the game Steve Sachse added three asssts to hs scorng totals and upped hs team scorng lead to 25 ponts on nne goals and 6 asssts. THE FALCONS jumped off to an early 2-0 lead on goals by Correll and Art Curts but the Bobcats came back to te the game 2-2 wth 3: gone n the frst perod. However, another Correll goal wth Just over a mnute to play gave l«. a frst quarter lead of 3-. The second ffteen perod was all the Falcons as they scored three tmes whle holdng UY Bobcatsscoreless. Correll had two scores and l«f Klsmo added one from hs attack poston. Just as the second perod was all BG. the thrd perod Goffers fnsh 6th By Joe Burchck Sports Wrter Playng one of ther better rounds of golf of the season the Bowlng Green golf team placed sxth n the 9 team Spartan Invtatonal at Mchgan State over the weekend. Host Mchgan State's Number and 2 teams ted for the champonshp n the major college dvson of the Spartan wth 74 strokes. Other schools fnshng hgh ncluded thrd place Mchgan at 76, Oho State fourth at 762, Kent State ffth place at 766, BG sxth wth 769 strokes and Toledo seventh at 770. Western Mchgan placed 3th wth 78 strokes n roundng out the partcpatng MAC schools. AFTER THE FIRST It holes played Frday afternoon, the Falcons were n second place, prmarly on the shootng of Jm Stone, Rck Faulk and Jmmy Smth. Ths tro recorded scores of 72, 73, and 74 respectvely n pacng the hgh BG placement Frday. But the scores took a soar n Saturday afternoon's acton as the Falcons dropped ther place to the sxth poston. Coach John Pper was extremely pleased wth the Falcons overall shootng and performance n the Spartan ctng that the fnsh was the hghest that BG has fnshed n a major college tournament, Co-medalst for the tournament were Jeff Reume of Eastern Mchgan and Mchgan Sates John Petterson at 44. Faulk took medalst honors for the Falcons wth rounds of 73 aha 76 for 49. Stone fnshed second at for 5. Other BG scores were Smth for 56, Steve Blowers for 56, John Anderson for 56 and Dck Erck 78-8 for 59. The trangular match for the Falcons at Oho Unversty wth Toledo scheduled yesterday has been rescheduled for ths afternoon. After today's acton the Falcons have two more events for the season. Ths weekend fnds the, Falcons partcpatng n the Ashland College Invtatonal. The MAC champonshps follow a week later at Oho Unversty. was domnated by Oho as they scored once and BG could not add to ther lead. Also In the thrd perod the Falcons lost frst team mdfelder Terry Cameron, who was ejected from the game for unnecessary roughness. The stckers had to play a man short for three mnutes but lost the servces of Cameron for the last four and a half mnutes of the thrd perod and all the fourth perod. Steve Raab of OU was also ejected from the game at the same tme. Sam Garrusso and Correll Ground ganer added fourth perod goals as the Falcons upped ther overall record to 6-3 wth the wn, A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR to the Falcons wn was the way crease defense men Buzz Chaffey and Tm Sanders held the Bobcats leadng scorer n check. Bran Teeple came nto the game havng scored 20 goals and asssted fve tmes In the Bobcats sx games. However, Chaffey and Sanders held hm to only tv-o goals In the game. Another assest for the Falcons was the fact that ther man-up offense was effectve, scorng twce. Correll's thrd goal and Garrusso's goal were the Falcons scores wth the man advantage. The stckers now have two games remanng on ther schedule both aganst Mdwestern Lacrosse Assocaton foes. Tomorrow, BG entertans Oho Wesleyan and Saturday they travel to Oho State. The Falcons are 4- n the league and must wn both games to fnsh n second place. In the latest coach's poll released last week the Falcons were ranked 20th n the naton. Nvwtphoto by L. Dovld FulUrton The answer to the Falcon footballers ground game problems may be solved next year n the person of Paul Mles (29). Mles has looked mpressve n all the sprng drlls and wll probably team wth veteran Jerry Felds n the BG backf eld next season. Falcons 'close' agan By Harold Brown Sports Edtor ATHENS - It was another case of "so close but yet so far" for the Falcon baseball team at Oho Unversty over the weekend. The Falcons say ther hopes for a hgh fnsh n the MAC go down the dran as they dropped both ends of a double header Saturday after beng raned out Frday. BG fnshes play n the conference at 8-6 and no worse than fourth place. In Saturday's frst game the Falcons dropped ther ffth one-run loss n conference play, 2-. In the second game BG seemed to lose all ts steam droppng a 6-2 decson. The Falcons lone run n the frst game came n the eghth nnng when Gary Haas led off wth a walk, stole second and scored on a pnch ht sngle by Mke Sullvan. BG HAD NUMEROUS chances to break the game wde open n each of the last three nnngs but ether faled to get the bg ht or were vctms of sensatonal Bobcat feldng. In the seventh, Mke Wood, Greg Plant and Tom Bennett each ht sngles but the rally produced no BG runs. A double play that began when Mke Wood was thrown out at the plate tryng to score on Plant's ht and fnshed when Plant was caught off guard and tagged out by the thrd baseman, brought the nnng to a close. In the nnth, wth one out, Rch Arbnger pnch ht for Ed Platzer and was safe on an error. Plant was walked by relef ptcher Jm Berman who then got Bennett to pop up for the nnngs's second out. Bob Hll smashed a lne shot down the thrd baselne but OU thrd sucker BUI Kleber made a sensatonal play that kept the ball n the nfeld and held Hll to a sngle to load the bases. The play prevented at least one run and possbly two from scorng as the Falcons were movng on the play wth two outs. The game ended when Haas ht nto a force play at thrd. IN THE SECOND game, the Falcons were held to three hts by the Bobcat's Terry Wenger who got credt for the wn to run hs record to 7-. The Falcons jumped out to a -0 lead n the frst when Arbnger sngled to drve n Wood who had reached base va a walk. The Bobcats took the lead for good n ther half of the frst wth two runs. BG's other run came n the fourth nnng when Allen doubled to score Bruce Rasor who reached base on an error. In the frst game, Doug Bar ptched seven nnngs, struck out fve and walked fve. The Bobcat's wnnng run came on a home run n the sxth nnng. Bar took the loss and now has a 4-4 record. Jeff Lessg started the second game for the Falcons and took the loss. Hs record s now 2-4. TODAY THE Falcons meet Detrot here at 3:30. Bar s expected to start. He now has 77 strke outs on the season and needs only seven more to break hs record of 84 set last season. He has also ted the record for the most nnngs worked n a season, 63.6, set by Bll Gren n the 969 season. The Falcons now have a 2-20 record and need to wn all the games remanng on the schedule to have a.500 season. Netters splt over weekend By Dan Cassedy Sports Wrter The projecton of how Bowlng Green wll fare at the MAC tenns champonshps May 2 and 22 at Athens s becomng clearer all the tme- -thanks largely to the results of last weekend's matches wth Oho Unversty and Mam. Frday BG dropped Oho's MAC record to 0-4 and overall mark to 5-0 wth a 5-4 vctory on the Ice Arena courts. Saturday, league upstart Mam gave the Falcons ther frst MAC loss after three wns wth a 6-3 lacng. In both matches Bowlng Green faled to wn any of four, fve or sx sngles. THE FALCONS WON Frday by splttng n sngles and takng two of the three doubles. Tom Lghtvoet, Bll ISaveI t I News I Oudsema and Dan Ryan took ther sngles duels and Lghtvoet-Oudsema and Ryan-Dale Watts captured tandem contests to account for the wnnng ponts. Mam upped ts record to 4-0 n the conference as Bowlng Green could only wn two sngles and one doubles match. Lghtvoet and Ryan were wnners for the Falcons agan and LghtvoetOudsema and Malcolm dropped three setters. In the Mam match Lghtvoet and Oudsema played a three set, 69 game doubles match that lasted nearly four hours. "They played more games than the other doubles combned and about the same length as four sngles combned," Gll sad. MIAMI COULD BE A threat to wn t (at conference)," Gll sad. "They don't have the best player n the league at every poston, but they do have GOOD players all along the lne and they should get a lot of ponts at conference." Though dsapponted that strength n depth ddn't show up, Gll had words of prase for Ryan, whom he's expectng a lot of at the MAC. "He played better than ex- pected both Frday and Saturday," Gll stated. "Ryan was the key n our (5-4) wn Frday and wth hs wn Saturday he's now won fve n a row." The Falcons face Toledo n ther last MAC match 3:00 today on the Rocket courts and fnsh the regular season tomorrow at Eastern Mchgan. Gll feels that Toledo, whch has yet to face Mam, s stll the team to beat n the MAC. "We'll just be out to get good seedng postons," Gll related. "It'll take a peak effort by everyone to beat Toledo." «'-»l"o by Bll mclmyn Stck Mdfelder Rch Leberfarb (29) advances the ball Saturday aganst the Oho Unversty Bobcats n a acton game the Falcons won, 8-4. BG's last home game s tomorrow aganst Oho Wesleyan. Footballers wn one By Fred Ortlp Assstant Sports Edtor They called t the Brown and Whte Sprng football game - the frst team Browns aganst the Whtes composed of the second, thrd and fourth squads plus anybody else who cared to show up for last Saturday's annual clash at Perry Feld. But n gazng n retrospect, the underdog Whtes made qute' a vallant try aganst the well-to-do Browns n succumbng to two second half Jerry Felds TDs and a 4-7 loss. If nothng else the game proved that the bench warmers aren't very far behnd the up-fronters n ablty or saavy. The Whte's only offense was a Joe Babes to John Cook touchdown pass that went 55 yards the thrd tme the Whtes had ther hands on the ball. But what was mpressve was the defense dsplayed by the underdogs made up n the man by sophomores. They thwarted every drve by the Brown n the frst half by recoverng fumbles, stoppng fourth and short yardage plays and battng down passes. HOWEVER, the Whte was aded by some lackadascal play. "I was dssapponted n the Brown offense today," lamented coach Don Nehlen afterwards. "We made a lot of mstakes and that hurt us. It was tough, though, to run aganst the defense that's seen the offense 50 tmes before." And wth opposng scouts n the stands, Nehlen kept thngs smple. Nehlen, who had the dubous honor of coachng Bowlng Green to ts frst losng season n 6 years n 970, was happy about the way the Whte conducted themselves on defense, despte the fzzled Brown attack. It underscored the fact that BG wll have some depth next fall. They were led by one of the sophs, Tom Hall, a 20-pound lnebacker from Bowlng Green Hgh, who had 9 25< OFF tackles. Kevn Taylor, an end, and Bll Centa, a lnebacker, both sophomores, plus Dave Konowal, a tackle, also looked good. Offensvely, the Brown opened the holes well for fullback Jerry Felds and talback Paul Mles who could turn out to be qute a tandem n the Falcon backfeld ths fall. FIELD, A SENIOR, was runnng the best he's ever run n chalkng up 22 yards on 23 carres, the best effort of the day. "I pcked my holes better today," sad 225-pounder from Youngstown, "but other than that I'm not dong anythng dfferent." Mles, a 90-pound speedster, looks lke the pll that could cure BG's past rushng lls. The sophomore from Pauldng, whose favorte sport s baseball, toted the ball 30 tmes for 08 yards Saturday. Mles s the brash, cocky type - the knd of cocky you love to have on your club. He told reporters after the game he ddn't care who quarterbacked, just so he got the ball. He further propheszed that BG "wll defntely have a wnnng season next fall" and that "we should wn t n 972." The sophomore s one of the "new breed" at Bowlng Green who could put the Falcons back on top. As Jerry Felds put t: "There's a lot more sprt ths year." The game Saturday only gave Nehlen more headaches regardng hs quarterback stuaton. Incumbent Don Plusquellc was lsted as number one but sophs Joe Babes and Red Lamport have been battlng t out all sprng. By the end of sprng practce, Nehlen stll ddn't know who'd be startng next fau. NOTHING MORE was answered when Plusquellc got knocked senseless n the frst quarter and couldn't play the rest of the day. "I told hm to run 58 ptch after he got hurt," sad Nehlen, "and he (Plusquellc) sad 'What's SS On Any 9" 2" 6" Pzza Lmt, On. C«up«P«t pll* Wth Ths Coupon FALCON -.*'nt!,tom., I6.K that?'" Babes splt hs tme wth both teams and was four for 4 for 90 yards wth two ntercepted. mport was one for eght for two yards and one ntercepted. A "sleeper", Ed McCoy, another sophomore, looked good n the fadng mnutes when the Whte threatened to te the game. He completed two for 78 yards. The potental s there for sure. Wth only nne lettermen startng, ncludng three on offense, there's got to be some quck maturng for the season opener and MAC opener aganst Oho U. As Nehlen put t dryly, "We've got a long way to go and a short tme to do It." Ths applcator was flled a week PRE-FIL.. (mtmnptm. <Jo*m.
