Corporation develops vertical garden in G. N. Chetty Road flyover Under the Smart City Project, Chennai Corporation has developed vertical gardens around two pillars of G. N. Chetty Road flyover in T. Nagar at a cost of Rs. 32 lakhs. The cost of developing the flora is about Rs. 750 per sq. ft. Infrastructure like borewell, pump room, storage sump, water and electricity has been provided at additional cost. According to a Corporation official, the vertical garden not only beautifies the flyover, but also prevents defacement of the pillars by writing of slogans or pasting posters. He said that similar gardens will be developed around 6 more pillars. The flyover has 11 spans with 20 pillars and two abutments.

During election, the candidates come with folded hands seeking votes and promising many things. But once they get elected, they do not deliver on their promises. It is in this context, NOTA assumes importance. If you do not want to vote for any candidate in your constituency, then do not abstain from voting, exercise the NOTA option. Nagar, who was riding pillion on a bike, was run over by an MTC bus on Kamarajar Salai in Ashok Nagar on April 4 evening. Police said that the accident occurred when the bus, coming from the opposite direction, hit the handle of the two-wheeler. As Suriya fell, his leg got stuck in the bike and he could not move. The bus ran over the boy, killing him on the spot. He sustained severe head injuries, police said. The rider, an employee of the medical shop run by his father Lakshmipathy, escaped unhurt. Suriya was on his way to attend a tuition class at the time. Suriya was a Std. 5 student in a private school in Ashok Nagar. Like on most days, an employee of the medical shop was riding the two-wheeler. The 17 D bus (Broadway-K. K. Nagar) had 50 passengers. The passengers and passers-by took Surya to a nearby private hospital where he was declared brought dead. Police sent the body for postmortem to Rajiv Gaandhi Government General Hospital. Guindy traffic police registered a case under IPC Section 304 (A) (causing death due to negligence) against the bus driver and are investigating. Resident provides buttermilk for passersby By Our Staff Reporter Usha Bothra (resident of Vasan Street, T. Nagar) has been distributing buttermilk among thirsty passersby outside her residence from March 1 for the third consecutive year. She said that the buttermilk is prepared with 5 liters of curd and given to more than 150 persons. She plans to increase the volume in the coming days. Usha said that following her husband Goutham Bothra initiative, she began her free buttermilk project. She appealed to residents of other streets to follow her example. She also provides water for birds and animals in at her house.

8 Page 8 Mambalam edition of Anna Nagar Times - RNI No /94 Chennai Metro begins soil tests in T. Nagar Chennai Metro has begun soil tests in T. Nagar as part of its phase 2 project. Its workers were seen drilling boreholes to collect soil samples in Venkatanarayana Road. There will be 5 stations in the neighbourhood, namely Nandanam, Panagal Park, Kodambakkam, Meenakshi College and Power House. Under the Land Acquisition Act, Tamilnadu Government has issued notices to a number of property owners on the eastern side of Kodambakkam Railway Station in connection with the development of the 2nd phase of the Metro Rail project in the 17.4-km long Corridor 4 (Orange Line) from Light House to CMBT with 20 stations. Nearly 200 property owners, many of whom are senior citizens, living in the 9 streets near Kodambakkam Station on the eastern side up to Ramakrishna School (Mambalam High Road) have filed petitions against the acquisition. In the recent meeting, a committee of the affected owners was set up to take up the issue with the authorities concerned. The committee has also sent an appeal to the Prime Minister. Sai bhajans for Rama Navami On the occasion of Rama Navami on Saturday, April 13, Sai bhajans and special poojas will be conducted from 7 a.m to 8.30 a.m in Sai Dhyana Maiyam (9, Madley Road, T.Nagar). There will be Annadhanam at p.m. The center is maintained by Sarvajana Raksha Samithi. Man kills wife Arunkumar (24), who married recently, killed his wife Sandhya (20) in her parents house in Nesapakkam on the night of March 30. According to the police, Arunkumar and Sandhya were neighbours and had married after falling in love. Post marriage there were frequent fights between them as Arunkumar (an electrician) did not earn enough to keep his wife happy. A day before the murder, Sandhya had gone to stay with her parents living close by, following a fight with her husband. On March 30, Arunkumar went to bring Sandhya back.
