Often when we look at the news with its social and political landscape we come forth with our woes But we are people of the joy of the Resurrection The paschal mystery of Jesus in his dying and rising is the source of our hope The blesseds and woes outlined by Jesus give not the giddyness of the mountaintop experience we might desire Jesus preached on level ground so that we keep ourselves down to earth His words lead us through the everyday ordinariness we all experience Luke 6 Jeremiah 17 We are blessed where we are Psalm 1 The kingdom is among us 1 Corinthians 15

4 PARISH NEWS Sacramental Preparation Last Sunday, the children were invited to add their names to a special Prayer Box on the prayer table in their Atrium if they had a desire to receive their First Communion this year. In this model of Catechesis, it is not just assumed, or determined by age/grade level. Within the appropriate Diocesan guidelines for the reception of the sacraments, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd focuses on the individual child s interest in and readiness for the sacrament. That readiness is discerned by the child and their parents, in conjunction with their Catechists, and Fr. Val. Please keep these children, and their families, in your prayers as they continue their preparation and deepen their understanding of this beautiful invitation to the banquet table. 5 PARISH NEWS Welcome and Thank You Again! As Fr. Val continues to enjoy his much deserved cruise, we are honored to welcome Fr. Al Kirk and Fr. David Knight to St. Patrick once again today. Fr. Kirk will preside at the morning Masses and Fr. Knight will preside at the 5:15 Mass. Fr. Val will return Tuesday, so weekday Masses will be celebrated Tuesday through Friday, as usual in the Chapel. The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick Sunday, March 3 All Masses Please join in prayer for those who will be anointed. In the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, we--the church-- pray for the spiritual and physical healing of the sick. You are invited to be anointed if you are-- : Seriously ill, including the elderly who are becoming weaker, even if no illness is present. The illness may be physical and/or mental. Waiting for surgery when a serious condition is the reason for the operation Easter Choir All are invited to sing in the choir this spring!! We will sing for Confirmation Mass, March 17, at 11am as well as Holy Week and Easter. Rehearsals are Sundays at 3pm starting February 24. 6 SPIRITUAL GROWTH & FAITH FORMATION Faith Sharing Groups You are always welcome! Sunday by Sunday Sundays, 9:45am Braganza Room and Thursdays, 10:30 Noon Caritas Village in Binghampton During February the St. Patrick's Sunday by Sunday faith sharing groups will spend time each session reading and discussing portions of Howard Thurman's Jesus and the Disinherited along with our regular reflection on the Sunday Scripture readings. There is no registration for these, and no fees required. Howard Thurman was an African-American author, philosopher, theologian, educator, and civil rights leader. In this classic theological treatise, the acclaimed leader demonstrates how the gospel may be read as a manual of resistance for the poor and disenfranchised. We meet Sunday mornings at 9:45 until 11:00am in the Braganza Room of the St. Patrick Center. Bring your coffee and breakfast and join us! Another group meets every Thursday morning at the Caritas Village community center in Binghampton at the corner of Harvard and Merton from 10:30am until noon. Most of us stay for lunch to enjoy more conversation. Please pray for our community every day Ministry to the Sick New Minister Training Saturday, March 2, :30 AM -1:00 PM Catholic Center, 5825 Shelby Oaks Drive This training will provide new ministers with the basic tools of their ministry. As a trained minister you bring compassion, communion and become a sacramental presence of Christ for those sick and homebound. 7 SOCIAL OUTREACH YOUTH GROUP Attention Middle School Youth! St. Patrick Church is scheduled to host The Room In The Inn program again on Wednesday, February 27, at the St. Vincent DePaul Ozanam Center located at 1306 Monroe Ave. There are still several volunteer positions needed. One very important volunteer position needed is a male Overnight Shepherd. This requires you to be at the center around 7:30 p.m. and stay with our guests until around 6:00 a.m. We currently have a female Overnight Shepherd, Susan McGhee, scheduled but there must also be a male Overnight Shepherd. You do not need any previous training to fulfill this assignment, just a desire to give those who are in need, the opportunity to have a warm place that is safe and secure for a night. Adoration will be held from 6:15-7:15 pm followed by BBQ and fellowship afterward until 8:00 pm. 8 BUILDING AND GROUNDS Help Needed! We will host our third Parish Work/Clean Up Day Saturday March 9th 8:30 pm until 4 pm Spend a day with fellow parishioners, make new friends and end the day with a feeling of satisfaction for a job well done. In keeping with our goal to make our 113 year old church a warmer and more comfortable home for all, we have a to-do list that includes painting (and prep), scrubbing, fixing, organizing, sweeping, digging, yardwork, campus clean-up, and more; a variety of jobs to suit everyone s interests and abilities, including meal prep. We need your time and talents! Your efforts will help build community as we work side-by-side and get to know each other, as well as save the church thousands of dollars Coffee and light breakfast for the morning, and lunch at noon. We are committed to making this as much fun and fruitful experience, and you will know that you have helped make a difference! This is our largest annual fundraiser for our Community Outreach and we need your help producing this major St. Patrick event.
