1 ONGOING FORMATION OF PRIESTS December 10, 2009 To the Priests and Deacons of the Diocese of Owensboro, Greetings, Here is the registration information for the Presbyteral Convocation, January 11-14, 2010, at Lake Barkley State Resort Park: the draft convocation schedule, registration form, and the form for volunteering. Please adhere to the deadlines indicated, i.e., December 31, 2009, for the Diocese and for Lake Barkley State Resort Park. The times stated for Monday on the draft schedule may be considered set (unless, of course, we have a new bishop to introduce). A final schedule will be available at the convocation. Our presenter for 2010 is Rev. Gladstone Stevens, S.S., Ph.D., a Sulpician and a priest of the Archdiocese of Louisville. Currently he is academic dean at St. Patrick Seminary & University, Menlo Park, California. An associate of Fr. Howard Bleichner, S.S. (who highly recommended him), Fr. Stevens will be presenting reflections on the Catholic priesthood from a theological and historical perspective. In 2010 we will have nine priests ordained 60 or more years: Fr. Charles DeNardi (100 years old Christmas Day 2009/ 74 years a priest on June 6, 2010), Fr. Joe Rhodes (69 years), Msgr. George Hancock (63 years), Frs. Pike Powell, Al Powers, and Phil Riney (62 years), Fr. Joseph Miller (61 years), and Frs. Leonard Reisz and Maurice Tiell (60 years). Bishop John McRaith celebrates 50 years of priesthood and Frs. Terry Devine and Greg Trawick celebrate 25 years of priesthood in In this Year for Priests, we celebrate and salute all who graciously persevere in orders and stay the course. Participants in the schola are asked to arrive early if at all possible for a music practice beginning at noon in the convention center. Sincerely, Rev. Richard Meredith
