2 THE GOOD NEWS Baptism! Congratulations to Today s Psalm Response I will sing of your salvation. (Psalm 71) Celebrating the Sacraments The Sacrament of Reconciliation ("confession") is offered every Sunday in the "cry room," located to the left of the main entrance of the church. You may celebrate the sacrament "face-to-face" or anonymously (behind the priest) at 8:00-8:10 a.m., 10:20-10:40 a.m., and 4:45-5:00 p.m., or by appointment. To inquire about Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, Marriage, Anointing of the Sick, please call the Church Office at (901) Isabella Eichold as she is baptized today during the 11:00 am Mass. We celebrate with her and her parents, Samuel Eichold and Paulina Baca Trevino. Blessing of Throats after all Masses TODAY February 3 in honor of the Feast of St. Blaise February 3, 11:00am, Noelle Crone by Ginger and Charlie Taylor February 10, 11:00am, Noelle Crone by the Friday Morning Women s Bible Study Our Adult Faith Word, Eucharist, Life Fourth Sunday Ordinary Time Jesus was hustled outside Nazareth where he was unacceptable as he presented himself to those who thought they knew him A prophet in his own time and in his own place is as hard for some to swallow as it is to eat a whole meal in one bite Who are the prophetic voices speaking out to us a community of faith today Do those voices arise in us and among us One test of the voices we hear would be to discern in them the words of Jesus The Word that we hear together is not an ancient document but a living message for us in the here and now The Word reveals to us the deeper meaning of the Eucharist that we celebrate and the calling of our Christian lives in the world of today The world that we reenter upon leaving the Sunday assembly would sometimes rather throw us over a cliff than listen to the truth that we present in love Psalm 71 and Jeremiah s prophecy reassure us that God is with us to uphold us in the justice of our calling

6 PARISH NEWS Family Update from Father Val Baptismal Preparation Class For Parents and Godparents In the name of my family, I want to thank all of you for your prayers for my sister Kay, who was in a horrific one-car crash this past November 27 th. Kay has made an amazing recovery, and many of you have seen her at Mass, starting on our Christmas Eve Mass, with her husband Tom. Two weeks ago Kay had an appointment with the specialist regarding her most serious injury a fracture of C2 vertebra. She has been in a neck brace since the accident. The results from this doctor s meeting were not what we had hoped. Please continue your prayer that her neck will heal properly without surgery. One other update: Last summer Kay and Tom planned to take a cruise in the Caribbean under the auspices of the Notre Dame Alumni Association. Unfortunately, Kay s neck doctor strongly advised them not to take the cruise. The next day, Tom contacted me. The cruise tickets are nonrefundable. He asked if I would like to go on this cruise in their place. I said yes! The cruise will leave on Sunday, February 10 th, and end on Monday, February 18 th. For those two Sundays, February 10 th and February 17 th, Father Al Kirk will preside at the 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Masses. Father David Knight will preside at the 5:15 p.m. Mass for both those Sundays. If you plan to participate in a Baptism in the next four months, please call the parish office so we can schedule the preparation class. Why Is Ordinary Time Called Ordinary? Ordinary Time is called "ordinary" not because it is common but simply because the weeks of Ordinary Time are numbered. The Latin word ordinalis, refers to numbers in a series, from which we get the English word order. Ordinary time presents us with an opportunity to consider again the fact that living as a Christian calls us to meet the Lord in the real world of daily life. He is already there, walking before us and beckoning us to follow after Him. After weeks of preparing for - and then celebrating the Christmas season - all the decorations have come down in our homes and our church sanctuaries. The patterns of daily life now unfold before us and invite us to find the Lord in them. Thank You, St Patrick Parishioners! Ninety-five of you came together at our recent Stewardship events to offer your input on how the Parish Pastoral Council ministries can be more effective, We ed a summary of those discussions to the attendees. If anyone else wants a copy of the summary, please contact Julie Father Val s Homilies Father Val s recent homilies are available on our website: On the Home Page, just click Homilies. The Sunday Bulletin is also available and in color.
