Eucharistic Adoration: Eucharistic Adoration on the First Friday of the month, beginning with the 8:30 am Mass and concluding with a Divine Mercy Holy Hour and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at 3:00 pm. Novena Services: Miraculous Medal Novena and the Saint Teresa Novena, with veneration of the relic of Saint Teresa, every Monday following the 8:30 am Mass. Novena service every Monday evening at 7:30 pm with Exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Baptisms: Every Sunday of the month 1:30 pm following the 12:30 pm Mass. Parents are asked to contact the rectory and schedule an appointment with one of the parish priests to make arrangements for the celebration of the Sacrament and to register for the Baptism preparation class. Marriages: Please contact the rectory at least one year in advance of the wedding to schedule an appointment with one of the parish priests. Participation in the Marriage Preparation Program offered by the Archdiocese of New York, along with Natural Family Planning classes, is required. To register for Marriage Preparation sessions, contact the Family Life / Respect Life website at Parish Membership: New parishioners are warmly welcomed. Those already enrolled in the school, CCD Program, sports or other parish activities are not automatically registered in our parish. Please stop by the parish office or call for a membership form. It is important that all parishioners are registered. 3 February 5, 2017 Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saint Teresa Church, Congratulations to our St. Teresa School Principal Mrs. Anna Simione, to our dedicated faculty members and aides, and to the 271 children in grades Pre-K3 to Eighth. We are finishing our annual CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK. The many activities for the school community and guests were a bright time in the middle of winter. Two highlights to share today: Grandparents Day, and a visit to each classroom by Borough President James Oddo. Last Friday morning, the whole school came to the 8:30Mass. They filled the front half of our church, and all the other seats in church and standing area were filled with the children's guests: their Grandparents and some other invited Special Persons who were able to come and share this day with them. At Mass, we learned about Saints Joachim and Ann. Ancient Church tradition identifies Joachim and Ann as the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Being the parents of Mary makes them two of the grandparents of Baby Jesus! (We do not know the names of the parents of Saint Joseph.) But they all remind us of our own ancestors, living or deceased, and of the responsibility to teach about God and live up to the honor of being a grandparent. After Mass, the auditorium was packed with children and guests who enjoyed refreshments supplied by our Home and School Association. Then our guests went to visit their grandchildren's classrooms and see our school in action. A happy day was enjoyed by all. Mrs. Simione followed last year's visit by State Senator Andrew Lanza with an invitation to Borough President James Oddo to meet our students and see our school. On Tuesday Mr. Oddo brought some of his staff members, and he spent two hours visiting all the classrooms. Lower grade students showed him their art work, middle and upper grade students asked a variety of thoughtful questions, and he even heard our band practicing for their concert. Mr. Oddo told everyone that he is proud of his Catholic school education, and very grateful for the foundation he received at St. Dorothy Academy, Msgr. Farrell High School, and Fordham University. Remembering and appreciating those who brought us into existence and helped us to grow up wisely and well is every person's lifelong privilege and responsibility. Giving thanks to God and people is part of our Christian DNA. We should not fail to say thanks every day, and especially on Sunday, to Jesus Christ, our Lord and brother, who came into a hostile and dangerous world to open up for us, by his sacrifice on the cross, our way into the kingdom of heaven. After thanking God, we ought to express our thanks in many words to our parents, grandparents, special persons, teachers, neighbors, coaches, mentors, employers, etc. Even a long list cannot include everybody that you owe. This is also why thoughtful people give generously to the churches, schools, hospitals, and other organizations that helped them. Your generous support for our parish, and especially at this time of the year your donations to the Cardinal's Appeal, are examples of you helping to promote God's plan and you saying thanks in practical ways for what you have been given. Sometimes we get a chance to say thanks in person to people who have helped many others. I would like to invite you to be part of a beautiful example of gratitude called WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR CONSECRATED LIFE. Next Sunday at our 12:30 Mass, our parish will host a Mass and Reception for members of the Religious Orders of women and men who live or work on Staten Island. Sisters, Brothers, and religious order Priests (like our Father John Kallattil, V.C., a member of the Vincentian Congregation) will be coming to the 12:30 Mass. The men of our Holy Name Society are organizing the reception for our guests that will follow. We are hoping that Sister Margaret Mary and other members of the Presentation Sisters, who taught for many years in our St. Teresa School, may be able to attend. Finally, I thought you might like to read the newspaper article from 1984 that was part of my homily last Sunday. Sometimes a picture or a story surfaces when you are looking for something else, and it reminds you of people or an event that touched your heart. That happened to me two weeks ago, as we approached RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY. I discovered an article from 1984, about an unprepared mother and her new-born baby. I was part of the immediate response, and of the wonderful result. Years later, perhaps like grandparents do, I grow more reflective and appreciative about how we mysteriously we can became part of one else s life. In ways we may never expect, we do somehow become agents of God s grace and part of His plan to save a life and a soul and a family. Yours in the mysterious love of Jesus Christ, Msgr. Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Brownies and Cub Scouts will actively participate by serving as lectors, gift bearers, and altar servers, and will proudly wear their uniforms to Mass. May God bless all of our Scouts, Families, and Leaders! SEA VIEW ADULT DAY HEALTH CARE PROGRAM Sea View Hospital Rehabilitation Center and Home offers the Sea View Adult Day Health Care Program for chronically ill or disabled persons twenty-one years of age and older living in the community. There is a separate component addressing the needs of individuals affected by Alzheimer, dementia and related disorders. The program is open Monday thru Saturday from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Transportation is provided to and from program. Today is not just Super Bowl Sunday. It is also a First Sunday of the Month, when we always collect donations of food and money to help feed hungry people in our area through our Sister Margaret Mary Food Pantry. Dedicated volunteers will stand in the vestibule to receive your donations of food or money that we can use to buy groceries and give to our Staten Island neighbors who come to our Pantry. This month in particular, we hope for a lot of awareness and a lot of giving, because food pantries run closer to empty during harsh weather. People need their money for other necessities, and hunger is a threat. We want to be able to help our Staten Island neighbors as much as we can. We also want to add the details of your generosity to the report of the annual Archdiocesan food campaign being conducted at this time called FEEDING OUR NEIGHBORS. FEEDING OUR NEIGHBORS is a hunger awareness and food collection campaign spearheaded by the Catholic Charities people of our Archdiocese. Only a few parishes actually have a food pantry, with kind volunteers to provide direct service as we do. Thank you for supporting it as you do! Sea View is located on Brielle Avenue, close to home. The program provides the family member or caregiver with much needed respite. For further information, call Golden Age Club News Our Golden Age Club meets in Conran Hall each Monday at noon. Our Legion of Mary Ministry This is a very active and prayerful ministry which meets each Wednesday morning in the parish house on Windsor Road, from 10:15-11:15. All are welcome. The winner of our recent and popular 50/50 Drawing was Mr. William Kenworthy. The prize was $502. If you would like to participate in this monthly activity that benefits our parish and makes people happy, look for the 50/50 envelopes in the vestibule.
