Eucharistic Adoration: Eucharistic Adoration on the First Friday of the month, beginning with the 8:30 am Mass and concluding with a Divine Mercy Holy Hour and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at 3:00 pm. Novena Services: Miraculous Medal Novena and the Saint Teresa Novena, with veneration of the relic of Saint Teresa, every Monday following the 8:30 am Mass. Baptisms: Every Sunday of the month 1:30 pm following the 12:30 pm Mass. Parents are asked to contact the rectory and schedule an appointment with one of the parish priests to make arrangements for the celebration of the Sacrament and to register for the Baptism preparation class. Marriages: Please contact the rectory at least one year in advance of the wedding to schedule an appointment with one of the parish priests. Participation in the Marriage Preparation Program offered by the Archdiocese of New York, along with Natural Family Planning classes, is required. To register for Marriage Preparation sessions, contact the Family Life / Respect Life website at Parish Membership: New parishioners are warmly welcomed. Those already enrolled in the school, CCD Program, sports or other parish activities are not automatically registered in our parish. Please stop by the parish office or call for a membership form. It is important that all parishioners are registered. 3 April 29, 2018 Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saint Teresa Church, This Saturday will be an important day in the life of many of our children, and of their parents and relatives, as ninety of our young parishioners receive the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist - the Body of Christ for the first time in their lives. Old enough now and educated to know the difference between ordinary bread and the bread that has been changed into the Body of Christ, they join us in a more intimate and beneficial relationship with the Son of God. Jesus suffered and died for us on the cross, and after three days in the tomb, was raised from the dead by the power of his Father. It is very appropriate that the day of First Holy Communion is within the Easter Season of fifty days celebrating the victory and new life that Jesus won for us over sin and death. The names of our young parishioners are given to you in this bulletin, for you to know and applaud them, but more importantly, to join us in praying for them and for their families. You know that faith needs practice to flourish; the steady good example of parents, grandparents, and godparents is especially important. May this first Holy Communion encourage everyone s Sunday and holyday presence at Mass, and participation in our many parish activities. Thinking of holydays, when we get to today's Fifth Sunday of Easter, we Catholics think of Ascension Thursday - a holyday of obligation, forty days after Easter Sunday - and begin to plan to attend Mass that day. For this holyday of obligation in eleven days, our parish Masses will be in St. Teresa Church on Wednesday May 9 at 4pm, and on Thursday May 10 at 7:00am, 8:30am,12:00 Noon, and 7:30pm. The school parking lot will be open. A special reason to be proud of our parish is the outstanding programs for Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts that are sponsored by St. Teresa Parish. Scouting is very helpful to many families and a boon to many young people who need enjoyable activities and good values and direction in their lives. For example, Boy Scout Troop 37 can boast of an extraordinarily large contingent of young men who complete many years of scouting activities, earning badges in many skills, and who organize and complete a significant project that benefits the community. Then they become eligible to earn a prestigious award that is respected by adults and colleges, and admired by employers on applications: EAGLE SCOUT. Last night Troop 37 held their third of four Eagle Award ceremonies in this academic year. Many troops have just one ceremony and one or two Eagle Scouts a year. Our Troop 37 welcomed 15 Eagle Scouts in 2017! And in the history of our Troop, we can boast of 121 Eagle Scouts. Last Sunday, His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan celebrated two large Masses in Saint Patrick's Cathedral. At 8am, he offered Mass for hundreds of New York City Police Officers and their families, marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of the NYPD Holy Name Society. That afternoon, the Cardinal and the Cathedral welcomed hundreds of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from the ten counties of the Archdiocese for the annual Emblem Awards Mass and ceremony sponsored by the Catholic Committee on Scouting in the Archdiocese. Our parish was very well represented. James Harkins and Dante Mineo earned their Ad Altare Dei Emblem, which helps Catholic Scouts to develop a fully Christian way of life. Katelyn Bouma, Sophia Lombardo, Sophia Marrone, Alexa Raucci, Megan Rothmund, and Samara Vasquez earned the Marian Award that helps Catholic Girl Scouts to grow closer to God through imitation of our Blessed Mother s life of prayer and service. Michael Carela and Anthony Mendez received the Pope Pius Award. Four adults from our parish - Theresa DeFazio, Kristie Rothmund, John Mendez, and Steven Jerome - were recognized for helping Scouts to deserve their awards. And, Steven Jerome was one of only four laymen and two priests from the whole Archdiocese who was given the Bronze Pelican Award, for his outstanding contributions to the spiritual development of Catholic Boy Scouts. The Cardinal made a point about why parishes are right to sponsor Scouting - something that might otherwise be missed: Scouting is Youth Ministry. A ministry is something good that we do for others out of religious motivation. Doing for others is the right response to Jesus for what he has done for us! Being a Scout leader can be and often is a ministry. Getting children ready for their First Holy Communion is a ministry, as is volunteering to be a religion teacher for any grade in our CCD program. Catholic school teachers do a ministry, not just a job. Feeding the hungry through our food pantry is ministry. Coaching sports can be a ministry. The list is very long. We will honor GOLDEN AND SILVER WEDDING JUBILARIANS at a 10am Mass and Breakfast on Sunday May 20. Our Holy Name men will be the hosts for a wonderful breakfast for you and your close family. So if you got married in either 1968 or 1993, please let us pray with you and celebrate your great milestone. PRAYER FOR THIS WEEK For greater unity with our neighbors and with people of other churches who share our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, let us pray to the Lord... Mother s Day Novena Envelopes... with the names of women you want us to pray for during our Novena of Masses should be returned by May 12. Please include mothers and grandmothers both living and deceased. Prayer a great way to honor and help them. THIS SEPTEMBER COULD BE YOUR TIME TO SERVE THE LORD BYVOLUNTEERING TO BE A TEACHER OR AIDE FOR THE MANY WONDERFUL CHILDREN IN OUR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM. YOU WILL GET A LOT OF SATISFACTION AND SUPPORT FROM OTHER TEACHERS AND AIDES, AND ESPECIALLY FROM OUR DIREC- TOR, MRS. LISA RAMETTA.
