1 2018 September Newsletter Becoming Christian (An 8-week sermon series through Paul s Letter to the Colossians) September 16 November 4 Becoming Christian is not a one-time decision, but a lifetime process where God s Spirit forms us into Christlikeness. What does it mean to become Christian? How does it happen? How can we help the process? These are some of the questions we will be addressing as we take an in-depth look at the important New Testament letter of Colossians Church Calendar September 3 Labor Day - School & Office Closed September 7 Church-wide Tailgate Party at PHS September 14 Church-wide Tailgate Party at PHS September 16 12:00 Quarterly Forum September 21 Church-wide Tailgate Party at PHS October 5 Church-wide Tailgate Party at PHS October 6-14 Fall Break (No Wed. 2 Lamplighters: Women on Mission Thursday, September 13 10:30 a.m. in Walker Hall All ladies are invited to join us for mission stories, mission opportunities, and fellowship. Anne Smith will lead the program. Please bring a sack lunch to eat after the meeting. Beverages and dessert will be provided by hostesses Nancy Teague and Doris McCurdy. Handbells Sept. 10 Sept. 17 Sept. 24 J.O.Y. Choir Sept. 14 Sept. 28 Church-wide Tailgate Parties 6-7:15 at Pickens High School I have learned more than I expected in my time as your Interim Youth Minister. I have learned just how much energy teenagers have, and that they are nocturnal creatures (at least on lock-ins and mission trips!) I have learned that youth are really bright when it comes to exploring matters of faith. I have learned that planning a Bible study for youth allows for one to be creative. I have learned that teenagers are really perceptive and open to fresh ideas. Mostly, though, I have seen just how important it is for us to have an active, vibrant youth ministry. I ask for your prayers for our Youth Committee as they move forward in seeking a person to provide direction for this important ministry. -Christian September 7 September 14 September 21 October 5 October 19 Sponsored by the Youth Committee Nominations are being accepted for Youth & Young Adult Leadership "Young leaders that are motivated and powered by love for God, Country and Community through Prayer!" 3 Preschool is back and in full swing! We have had several very successful weeks at school and currently we have 109 students enrolled. This still leaves a few spots in our upper-level classes, which normally fill up in the next few weeks. We have so many new families this year and this is exciting because we can introduce them to our church family and culture. We love incorporating our preschool families in all that we offer for the Children's Ministry at FBCJ and hope to continue to do so. We have already held the book fair, which had over $1600 in sales. We also hosted a Back to School Bash with the Children's Ministry. Even though it rained, we had a blast playing on a water slide in the rain and eating Kona Ice. We also had Curriculum Night August 16, at which time all the parents were able to come in and talk with our wonderful teachers and attend a meeting in Walker Hall to discuss specific policies of the school. We are still in need of the preschool supplies listed below and monetary donations. If there is anything that you would like to donate to the preschool please contact me. Preschool Supply List 8 count box crayons washable thick classic markers regular school glue glue sticks #2 wood pencils 8 count washable watercolor paint with paint brush FBCJ Preschool blunt scissors composition notebooks pencil pouches disinfectant wipes and/or spray ziploc bags, all sizes tissue boxes baby wipes Snacks: goldfish, granola bars, pretzels, cheerios, applesauce, fruit cups, etc. Cassie Rasco Director

This is an important ministry of our church and one where we can make a difference in the lives of our youth. All that is needed is to sign up to provide dinner for one Sunday. Home cooked meals are a favorite, but not required. If you cannot provide the food, you can still sponsor a night by covering the cost. No finicky eaters in this group! All manner of meat, fruit, and vegetables can and will be consumed. A free photo of youth eating your food will be ed to you every time you sponsor a night! To sign up contact Scott and Kerry Powell or Marcia McDaniel. With this exciting offer dates will fill up fast, so act soon!
