Youth Choir Starts October 2 5:00 P.M. Time is flying by in the preschool. We have had a fantastic first six weeks of school. During this time, we have already hosted Doughnuts with Daddy, picture day, a doctor visited the school and attended our first fieldtrip. We met Dr. Ken Austin at the Pickens County Airport where he allowed the children to look in his planes as well as watch him take off, land and fly around. We stay very busy and the children are all adjusting so well to the new schedule. Our new kindergarten is going great! We have 12 students who are being taught by the best of the best. They are all being taught on a first grade curriculum level, which speaks volumes to our program and how we prepare them. In November I am going to poll the 37 PreK students and see who is planning on attending kindergarten next year and that will determine the next direction we will go in for the 2017 school year. Please continue to pray for our program and that God will bless all our efforts. Thank you for all your food donations, they are so helpful and appreciated. As always if you need anything please do not hesitate to call or come by for a visit. Blessings Cassie Rasco When I told you the youth were busy in September, I didn't even realize what October had in store for us! On October 9th the youth are teaming up with the Children for an event created for the whole family! Starting at 4:00 PM we will have a FAMILY PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT! It will be "every family for themselves" in a competition to see who can take the most fun, creative pictures completing each challenge Kim & I lined up. Any youth not accompanied by parents, will team up with me and join the fun! After this event we will have our own youth fall party with a movie, yummy food, and pumpkin-themed snacks. What could be better?! The youth will also be helping at the Fall Festival and Community Brunch. I am happy to announce that our small groups are growing! Both Wednesday and THursday nights have seen an increase in numbers, fun, and conversation. I am incredibly thankful to be able to minister to this group! in grace, ANnie Sutton This October we have two fun opportunities for families with children! First, we will have a Family Photo Scavenger Hunt on Sunday, October 9 at 4:00. We ll meet in Walker Hall to give instructions before sending each family off to take pictures of items on the list. We ll meet back in Walker Hall to tally the results and eat ice cream sundaes! Please make plans to be a part of this fun family event! Second, our Hollywood themed Fall Festival is Sunday, October 30 from 5:00-7:00. Dress as your favorite celebrity and join us for an evening on the red carpet! There will be karaoke, bounce houses, a special area just for our youngest guests, hot dogs, popcorn, a candy bar, and more! To make this a wonderful community event, we need your help! First, we need volunteers to work at each of the activity stations. I will have a sign up board in the Welcome Center where you can sign up for the time and event of your choosing. And second, we need donations of wavy potato chips, cookies, and candy! Instead of individually wrapped candy, please bring bags of M&Ms, Skittles, gummi bears, or candy corn for our candy bar. A donation box will be located in the Welcome Center. If you have any questions, please let me know! Thanks! Kim Mason
3 MEMBER OF THE MONTH Each month we will feature a member of the church starting in October. The purpose of the "Member of the Month" is to learn more about each other and highlight the work of God in our congregation. You will be able to read a brief synopisis of the member's life and faith journey, and you are encouraged to meet these members to get connected! If you are interested in being an FBC Jasper Member of the Month, contact Annie Sutton (youth@fbcjasper.com) KEITH WADE Keith has been a member of our church sing the mid-70's. He went to Sunday School, Summer Camps, and other church activities when he was young. He even got married in this church. After high school he started school at Pickens Tech, got a job, and became a volunteer fireman. With everything he had going on in his life, his involvement in the church slowly declined from "part time member" to "no time member" for many years. During that time he experienced many life changes, including a divorce. In 2010 Keith decided he needed a change and started searching for something he felt he lost. That "something"he says is Jesus's love. Jesus never gave up on him, even when he gave up on church. Keith is once again an active member, attending Sunday School, Worship, Wednesday nights, and working with the R.A.'s. Keith says, "There is always hope with God's help. There is Hope that others can move towards coming back to church, or even start coming to church for the first time." WHAT ARE THE DEACONS UP TO? We are beginning a new section in our monthly newsletter in order to keep you better informed about the life of the church. We will be offering a brief summary of the issues being discussed and any action taken at our monthly deacons meetings. At FBC Jasper the deacons assist the staff in conducting the day to day business of the church. We pray for and discuss the needs of the church, seeking God s guidance. One of the issues we discussed this past month had to do with clarifying what goes before the congregation for a vote and what is decided by the deacons. We all want the congregation to feel a part of the decision making process without weighing down our life together with business meetings. The deacons have been entrusted by the congregation to make decisions on all issues except for those that change the budget or ministerial staff, and relate to the sale or acquisition of property. These issues come before the entire congregation. The congregation also elects deacons and approves the nominating report each year. This month we also talked about our budget shortfall. The finance committee is putting together a contingency plan to be shared at a later date with the deacons should it be deemed necessary. If you ever have any questions regarding the life of the church, please feel free to contact a deacon or a member of the ministerial staff. We have a desire to always be transparent. We are grateful the prayerful and financial support of all who make the ministry of the church possible.
