1 Come celebrate Summer with NCCUMC this June Fresh strawberries Homemade biscuits Real whipped cream Join us at our 67 th Annual Strawberry Festival Saturday, June 16 11:00 AM 4:00 PM (Grandma s Attic opens at )
2 JUNE 2018 FROM THE PASTOR The grace and peace of the living Christ is certainly with us. It feels as though spring has finally sprung and we're only a few weeks from summer! Saw my first bear of the season last night on the way to choir, so I feel welcome in the neighborhood again. And soon, the smell of strawberries will fill our church. I love Annual Conference. I'm one of those very strange people that truly delight in spending 4 days with people from all over our Conference - Long Island, NYC, Staten Island, the Catskills, and half of CT. What always strikes me is the diversity - African- American, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Jamaican, Brazilian, Ghananese, Chilean, Ecuadorean, Native American, members from India, Philippino, and some that I probably haven't named. We are a diverse Conference! Maybe the most diverse in the US. And when we get together once a year, we celebrate that diversity. Let me say this - Caucasians are in the minority in our Conference! We tend to forget that up here in northern CT. Many things happen at Annual Conference. We worship. We remember those who have gone on to glory. There is Commissioning and Ordination. And we deliberate petitions, tackle the budget and health insurance, elect Trustees, and we deliberate petitions (oh, did I say that already?). In the United Methodist Church, the power comes from the bottom up. Local congregations and caucus groups write petitions that are deliberated and voted upon at Annual Conference. Some of those petitions are about divesting from fossil fuels, matters of sexuality, and justice issues like prison reform or fair trade coffee at fellowship hour or going green. Dealing with the petitions is one of my favorite parts of Conference. Every year, someone's personal story changes my life when we go into deliberation. And every year, I make new friends. This year Annual Conference is from June Please pray for us. Pray that justice rolls down like waters and righteous flows like an ever flowing stream. And please pray for grace to abound! Mary Brevigleiri and Pat McGarry will be your representatives as members of Conference this year. Please pray for them too. See you in church, in the community, and in the world, Pastor Karen / karen.cook57@gmail.com

Our next messenger will be the summer edition which will cover July and August which means you will have to think ahead and get me your articles and dates for July and August by June 21. A lot of changes have been going on in my personal life. Some good, some bad. On the good note, I have taken on a third job. It is in my field of work as a real estate paralegal with a local law firm. I have had to change the office hours here at the church to accommodate everyone. I am now in the office Wednesday, 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Thursday, 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm and Friday, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. I thank the church for letting me be able to work around my crazy schedule. Marlene S. MacBain Church Secretary ALTAR FLOWERS Please consider honoring someone in your life, an important day or a loved one's memory. In order for your mention to be listed in the bulletin, sign up two weeks prior. Church signup sheets for all church services are to the right of the large kitchen window in Case Hall. If for any reason you have a last minute date, please leave a detailed notation for honoree on Marlene s desk, prior to Wednesday of the upcoming Sunday bulletin. Of course, check the list first in Case Hall to make sure that no one else has that date. Many dates are available, which is convenient as our yards are beginning to bloom and grow. Stores conveniently have flower bouquets made up reasonably as well, as do local farm stands. Thanks, Deb Parker and Dru McNeil
