2 STAFF Music! Live music is a gi. You know that every me you hear Pilgrim s choir sing. You know live music is a gi every me Sam and Parker play worship preludes and postludes. You know live music is a gi when you really get into singing a favorite hymn. Some mes, just as much, you know live music is a gi when you stop singing yourself and listen to all the other voices filling the sanctuary with a song. You know live music is a gi when a five year-old boy at Worship on Wednesday requests his favorite hymn, and then sings all the verses by heart. You know live music is a gi when Vivian so ly plays under the prayers at WOW. To all of our musicians, singers, and listeners, thanks for making the gi of live music happen at Pilgrim all the me. Pilgrim Welcomes Emmet Cahill and Seamus Bre in Concert on June 16! Emmet Cahill is one of Ireland s best young tenors. The lead singer of the renowned Irish singing group Cel c Thunder when he s not doing solo concerts all over the world, Emmet will perform at Pilgrim on Saturday, June 16 at 7:30 pm. He is the cantor at his home church in Ireland and sings there whenever he s home. Seamus Bre has been studying the piano since he was eight. He spent many years promo ng music educa on in schools, colleges, and academies all over the world. More recently he has been a producer for Cel c Thunder and now accompanies Emmet Cahill on his solo concerts. Their Pilgrim concert will feature Irish classic songs, show tunes, beloved hymns and audience requests. A big added bonus is that in place of an intermission, Fred Dudderar and other musicians we know from Pilgrim will perform some songs on their own and also with Emmet and Seamus. Emmet and Seamus will generously share cket revenue. Pilgrim will give the en re amount of their share for 2019 mission trip that will build a hospital for Maasai people in a remote part of Tanzania. Tickets are $30 for the 7:30 pm concert, or $45 for the concert and a 6:00 meet and greet. You can get ckets online at or at the church. Pilgrim members, please spread the word about the concert! Instead of having a women s group, we have changed the organiza on to be all people of Pilgrim Lutheran Church. We may not have as many mee ngs as before, but our work is con nuing as represented this month as we gi quilts to our current high school graduates. We con nue to honor our past members as we host and serve their funeral lunch. We con nue to give money to chari es in our community and in the world. As a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, look for ways to give back. Giving has a way of bringing pleasure not only to the recipient but also to the giver. Pilgrim Lutheran Church Council Minutes May 15, 2018 Roll Call: Jan and Andrea excused,-all other members present. Opening Prayer: Pastor Will opened with prayer. Treasurer's Report: The treasurer's report shows an increase in giving for the year to date so we are moving in the right direc on. Discussion was on how to con nue to encourage people to keep up on their pledges and give extra if possible. Quarterly talks, ar cle in Progress, and bulle ns no fica ons to keep members informed on the budget. Jenny accepted the Treasurer's report and Suzie seconded. Mo- on carried. Secretary's Report: Secretary's report was read. Brenda made the mo on to accept Secretary's report, Jodi seconded. Mo on carried. Pastor's Review: (1) Thank you to Tanya, Linda, Robin, Torrie, Vivian, and Colleen for AAL and WOW. (2) Two excep onal bap sms this month: Mogensen girls - Marcia, Clara, and Ava were bap zed and Dan Lundberg JR's en re family was bap zed. (3) Women's retreat being organized for the fall. (4) Both mission trips are paid for and work will soon begin on next year's mission trip. (5) Emmet Cahill concert ckets are now available. Pilgrim's share of the concert will go toward jumpstar ng the Tanzania mission trip next summer. Mission trip members will work at the concert. Other Business: Property: Insurance company sent an on the replacement cost on the church. Council will leave insurance premiums at current level un l kitchen and bathrooms are done. Current es mate does not include the improvements. Boiler inspec on will be soon. New church sign should be here in July. Discussion was held over the new kitchen plans and ques ons answered. Sidewalk out in front of the church will be reconfigured to be more prac cal and cost savings in regards to maintenance and func on. Saturday June 16 Internationally acclaimed Irish tenor Emmet Cahill, a principal singer with the renowned performing group, Celtic Thunder, will perform in concert at Pilgrim Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 16 at 7:30 pm as part of his 2018 American tour. The concert will be preceded by a Meet & Greet starting at 6:00 pm. Emmet Cahill is 26 years old and hails from Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland. At age 5 he began learning piano and started vocal training at age 7. In high school he received a 5 year Schola Cantorum music scholarship. At 18 he began his formal training when he attended the Royal Irish Academy of Music where he received a BA in Music Performance. In 2010 Emmet was awarded the John McCormack Bursary for most promising young tenor and named Most Promising Young Singer at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. In addition he is a multiple prizewinner at the National Feis Ceoil singing competition in Ireland. He was chosen to perform at a special concert for the President of Ireland in As a soloist, Emmet has performed in Dublin at the Gaiety Theater, the National Concert Hall, Croke Park for crowds of 90,000, for the President of Ireland, and regularly at the Mullingar Cathedral, various prestigious venues that include churches, festivals, and a sold out church concert tour in 12 US cities, last December. In 2011 Emmet began touring with the international Irish music group, Celtic Thunder. Over the years Emmet has toured extensively with Celtic Thunder throughout North America and Australia. Individually and with the group, Emmet has appeared on many radio and TV shows on PBS, QVC, and on the Today Show, and most notably by special invitation for the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. He was named Irish Tenor of the Year by the Irish American Music Association in After an extensive 72-city 2016 tour of the United States and Canada with Celtic Thunder, Emmet resumed his solo career in He made his debut at Carnegie Hall this past March. He recently signed a major recording contract with Sony Music USA, and his debut album, Emmet Cahill s Ireland, went straight to Number 1 on the world music billboard charts. The album, with Cahill accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, is comprised of beloved Irish classics and folk tunes.
