2 Easter Joy to you all during this 50 days of Rejoicing of the Easter Season. During this me we meet the resurrected Jesus, have breakfast with him on the beach, and experience him doing his Poof!! rou ne where he suddenly appears and disappears. Whew. He teaches us about what the cross and resurrec on accomplished while we walk with him on the Road to Emmaus. We finally recognize it really is him as he blesses and breaks the bread. We get to touch the wounds in his hands and side, where the soldiers stabbed him to make sure he was truly dead, just in case we s ll don t believe it is him. And, we stay with him for 50 days un l he finally ascends into heaven. So for us, this is not just a cozy reunion with a teacher and friends. The angel tells us not to look for the living among the dead. And, he goes before you These are our cues to get moving. Easter is our me, when we have died with Christ on Thursday and Good Friday. Now we will rise with him. He has changed the course of history. Now how will we change? We have put on the white robe of the bap zed. We have died with him and now we are risen anew. So, what can we do? Now it is me to live as resurrected people: 1. Try to increase your me praying every day, even by just a ny bit. If you don t do it yet, then pray the Lord s Prayer every day. For families with kids, they will receive new prayer cubes to roll before meals and pray the prayer that comes up. Choose three people who need prayers and pray for them every day. 2. If you haven t started reading in your devo onal me each day, do so. Pick up a booklet at church, or go online to the ELCA website. 3. See how many people you can smile at every day. Reach out first to shake someone s hand. This poor world needs all the love and kindness we can give. 4. Try to work on and reconcile old hurts and divisions. Ask God to help. 5. Try to do one small kindness every day. 6. Give of yourself in some small way each day. In other words, try to be more Christ-like in your life by the way you think and act. Resurrec on is always a communal event. Share this exquisite love with someone else each day. Even give your dog or cat a good scratch, but not your fish. Once again, thank you so much for your prayers, help, support, kindness, and understanding that you have shown to me and my family during these difficult months. You have been the presence of Christ to us. We are once again leading a two-week pilgrimage to Israel with our dear friends the Rabbis Victor and Nadya Gross. It will take place this October If you are interested, or know someone who might be, there are one-sheet fliers with the website address on it. Make sure the whole website is entered. It tries to out-think you and cut off too soon. If you would like a paper copy of the trip, ask me, and I can give you one. The trip is comprised of Chris ans and Jews, and once in Israel we meet with Muslims. It truly is a life-changing experience and the best possible way to see the Holy Land. 3 WOMEN S RETREAT 2018 May 5th THEME: Be S ll and Know that I Am God Precious and Dearly Loved, We know from scripture that we are precious and dearly loved by God. So the theme this year for our Retreat is 2 Corinthians 3:11 The God of love and peace shall be with you. Back by popular demand is Allison Baumann. She is now on the retreat circuit sharing her walk with God and sharing her voice in song. Barbara Kay, who portrayed the Unsinkable Molly Brown at the 2017 Retreat, will be back as Clara Barton. Comedy, games, shopping, and gi s are always highlights of our day, with our famous chicken salad and lunch by Bertha and her gang. Mark your calendars for May 5th. Please take this wonderful opportunity to let your friends know how precious and loved they are by you, and invite them to a day of Chris an fellowship and fun. This is an opportunity to invite your neighbor, co-worker, friend, or family member for a fun-filled day. (I personally enjoy this day with my daughters. It has become our annual day together.) The park has a block of camping sites they will hold for our group un l July 1, Any sites not reserved by our group, will then be released to the public. You may visit their to view a map of the campground. As you begin your spring cleaning, save items to donate to church or watch for details on ren ng a table... Got Milk? If so, please save those gallon milk jugs for VBS! Empty, rinse, and bring your gallon milk jugs to church. We need a large number of jugs. Join us in VBS to see what we create with them... Grief Support Group Atonement Lutheran, 1285 North New Florissant Road, is forming a grief support group for those who have suffered the loss of a loved one, or other trauma c life-changing experience. If you are interested, please call Shirl Henke at 314/ , or parish nurses Joyce Pingle, Paula Goerss, or Kris Thompson at 314/ , or our church office at 314/ The mee ngs will be informal. Everyone can share their feelings, as much as they are comfortable in doing to help and support each other. If you struggle with healing or feel lost with your pain please join us. Or, if you know someone who is suffering, spread the word. All are welcome. From Central States Synod Dear fellow Members of the Body of Christ, Thank you for the mission support your congrega on gave to the Central States Synod and the ELCA this past fiscal year. This past fiscal year the Synod received $1,712,773 in mission support, which is $13,000 more than received last year! With addi onal income of $72,283, and expenses of $1,763,546, the Synod ended the fiscal year (1/31/2018) with $21,510 surplus. That is tremendous!
