3 Gentlemen, Thank you for all those who supported and joined us for our annual kids fishing derby at Columbus Park on 12 May It was a beautiful day and the kids were catching keepers. Thank you, Brother Bob Leingang, for truly being been an asset to our council as you continue to be our voice in the park. The Knights of Columbus state convention May 2018 in Pasco, WA was wonderful event and experience for me personally. To see all our state councils and the state council itself in one place complimented by guest knights from supreme, Idaho, and Canada was something every knight should see. Our council s effort in the recent Special Olympics tootsie roll drive which set a state record of over $139,000, earned us the fourth place earning council. In addition, our own Ron DeGroot will be an alternate delegate for this year s Knights of Columbus national convention in Baltimore, GRAND KNIGHT S MESSAGE Maryland. I strongly encourage all of you to be delegates to next year s state convention in Bellevue, WA and have an opportunity to attend the national convention in Congratulations to our local Saint Michael s School students for being winners in this year s Keep Christ in Christmas poster contest. Our own Miss A. Krause took 3 rd place earning a cash prize of $50 and Miss S. Peterson took 2 nd place earning a cash prize of $75 dollars. Great job kids. My brother knights I encourage you to support this year s national Special Olympics games in Seattle during the dates of 1-6 July You must receive the required training prior. There is a training session coming up in Tacoma. Please contact and support Brother Darren Johnson in his efforts to help our Special Olympic athletes. See the flyer below. As always, thanks to all of you who give your talent, treasure, and/or time to help others in our communities. Respectfully, Raymond J. Patron Grand Knight Father Nicholas Rausch OSB Council 1643 May 2018 Knight of the Month - Brother John Sweet The Father Nicholas Rausch OSB Council 1643 Knight of the Month for May is Brother John Sweet. He is a 3rd Degree Knight and he manages payments to seminarians. John is a member of Sacred Heart Parish. John joined the Knights of Columbus in 1988 in Seattle with the Council at Our Lady of Fatima Parish. The reason he joined the Knights was that he was influenced by his father and father in law who were also knights. Council 1643 Officers and members would like to congratulate Brother John for his good work over the many years of his Catholic life. Please extend hearty congratulations to him as Knight of the Month in Council 1643 for May Brother John Sweet Page 3 of 14
4 HUMAN LIFE OF THURSTON COUNTY S ANNUAL PICNIC COME ONE COME ALL TO OUR ANNUAL FAMILY PICNIC Columbus Park, SUNDAY, June 24 th, BEGINNING AT 2:00 P.M. We are happy to announce that our annual picnic will again be on Black Lake, at Columbus Park (5700 Black Lake Blvd.) You are invited to come and enjoy the famous pro-life hotdogs plus hot and cold drinks. It is all FREE, not even a donation can! You may bring something to share, such as a bag of chips or pot of beans, etc. For any new Knights, scenic Columbus Park located on Black Lake has long been a favorite of campers, boaters and vacationers alike. The park contains picnic and camping sites, a picturesque stream, swimming, playground for volleyball pits, horseshoe pits, an excellent boat ramp, and all around family fun. Black Lake is a very active fishing lake. You can fish for trout, catfish, bass, bluegill, and crappy all in large numbers. If you are 15 and older you must have a state fishing license. We will be at kitchen #1 (The big one, we have outgrown the smaller one) in the beautiful setting near the office. The swimming beach and fishing are just a few yards away. Just tell the gate person where you are going and you will not have to pay the entry fee. Look for the balloons! Once again, thank you to the Knights of Columbus pro-life efforts. Hope to see you there, Mary Brandon Page 4 of 14
