2 Page 2 THE W ORD Volum e 48 Issue 11 Greetings Westville UMC Family! It s hard to believe that we are in November. The good news is, we get to enjoy the Fall colors that God has given us. I really enjoy my drive to church. The trees come alive with amazing and brilliant colors. It reminds me of Genesis 1:31, God saw all that He made, and it was very good. I have to remember to keep my eyes on the road, because God does such beautiful landscaping that it s hard not to admire it as I drive to work. I can t even call what I do, work. It really is a blessing to serve at Westville UMC. When we look at God s creation we are reminded that God exists and is with us every second of every day of our lives. What more could we ask for? Unfortunately, there are so many people in this world who don t know that God exists. They live their lives searching for something to fill the void in their lives. They reach for everything and everyone else, but God. That s where we come in. I keep coming back to the theme of Relationships. We don t need to go to another country or around the world to have an impact on the lives of others. We have work to do right where we are located. That s why we are here. We are disciples of Jesus Christ. We are His hands and feet. How do we reach those around us? By building relationships with people of this community. We meet them right where they are. Our goal is not to get them through the doors of Westville UMC (It would be nice if they joined us, but that is not our goal). Our goal is to introduce them to Jesus Christ, so that, they too can be disciples of Jesus Christ. Reach up, Reach in, Reach out: Reach up to God, Reach in to know God, Reach out in Love. Isn t this what we are about? As we look forward to celebrating our 150 th Anniversary as Westville United Methodist Church, we need to keep in mind that we have a huge mission field right here in Westville. Let s celebrate by leading others to Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul offers us words to live by in Romans 12:10, Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Love & Blessings to you and yours, Pastor Cathy Allison

6 Page 6 RESALE SHOP NEWS What do you get when you mix a gobble, gobble, gobble with a ho, ho, ho? You guessed it, Thankful Friday. The team leaders are planning and scheming new ways to turn the Resale Shop into a Christmas treat once again. A new idea this year is to have a visit by Santa himself. Santa has accepted the invitation but his elves will be busy in the workshop at the North Pole. So along with needing elves to make the Resale Shop Christmas ready we need an elf assistant for jolly old St. Nick himself on Thankful Friday. One of our elves has already been busy in his workshop making pallet Christmas trees. However, this elf's talents doesn't lend himself to the skills needed to decorate the store, bake goodies or assist Santa. So we do need a few elves to make cookies, brownies or other treats or punch for our guests. We also need extra help in the morning on Thankful Friday, Nov. 24th, as 9-11 is our busiest time of the day. The week before Thanksgiving is a busy time for all of us and any time you can spare is really appreciated. It will take a lot of elves to make the Resale Shop ready to open on Thankful Friday, Nov. 24th. We will begin our countdown to Thankful Friday on Thursday, Nov. 16th at 4:00 when the store closes. (The store will remain closed until we open for Thankful Friday). Starting Friday, Nov. 17th we will be at the shop from 9-6 turning the shop into a quaint, hometown shop full of holiday spirit that Santa would be proud of. Naturally, we will take time off for Sunday Service and Thanksgiving Day to be with family and friends. If you haven't volunteered at the Resale Shop before that's ok. We accept elf interns! So get your merry on, practice your gobble, gobble, gobble or ho, ho, ho and come join the fun. Elf cos- tumes are not mandatory but do add to the merriment of this magical time of the year.
