WEDNESDAY, APRL 19, 1989 An Advantageous Program Ths week-end the Dramatc Club wll sponsor the Southsde Vrgna Play Tour- nament to be held here. Ths contest was begun at Farmvlle n the Sprng of 1986, ts prme purpose beng to create a greater nterest n dramatcs among the hgh schools and to encourage hgher tastes n drama. Such contests had been sponsored n Other states and elsewhere n Vrgna, the 'n\e sty of Vrgna havng been the scene of a dramatc tournamenl for larger hgh schools for many years. However, there was no place where smaller hgh schools could' comp t'. Farmvlle s proud to be workng wth the smaller schools. n our lve years as hosts to the contestants we have seen the number of schools partcpatng ncreased and enjoyed mw entres each year. Not only have the contests ncreased n number, bul we feel tha the selecton and qualty of the plays produced has undoubtedly mproved. As teachers mosl of us wll be called upon to take pal n sumo dramatc work, maybe as coaches and ntators, nayle as teachers. Whatever our future poston, t behooves us to be prepared to help wth publc entertanments of ths nature. These contests offer the best possble opportunty to see the types of plays that hgh schools, Varyng from small rural to town schools, can successfully put on. They tran us n judgng worthwhle and easy-tn-produec plaj The Dramatc Club makes no money from ths event.
