FARMVILLE, VIRGINIA, WEDNESDAY, MAY 6, No. 27 May Day Attracts Crowd of Thousand Costumes Add Color to Dance Drama and Legend A beautful day. a beautful quern, a colorful dance drama, and a large and apprecatve audence made the annual May Day fete at Farmvlle State Teachers Collegv one of the most unque n the hstory of the college. At fve o'clock Saturday. May 2, [he amphtheatre at Longwood be MOM an Egyptan court-yard wth a s"un-temple n the background For an hour an audence of auproxmately a thousand watche I the legend of "The Golden Goddess" enacted by a cast of one hundred college students. The story m adapted from Mozart's opera The Magc Flute" and carr (I 11." audence back to ancent Egypt where t saw a people bereft of lght. But a great kng gave them lght; a lvely cona journey nto the Doman of Nght, the freeng of a prncess from bondage, the acceptance of the prncess as Golden Goddess, and lght comes to the land. A beautful and effectve clmax of the program was reached when Lucy Potter was crowned Golden Goddess by her hgh prestess. Martha Nottngham. In rchly colored costumes of ancent Egypt a court of twenty prestesses' haled the goddess and danced the end rtual of the sun-god n her honor. The prestesses were: Ktty Roberts. Mary Bowles, Chc Dorteb, Elnor Dunham, Vera Bel, Grace Eubank. Margaret Farrar. Jenne Belle Gllam, Anne Hardy. Bonne Lane. Susan Lane, Madelne McGlothln. Ruth Montgomery. Seral Dramatzaton Of "The Boy Edson" Honors Hs Memory The Boy Edson", a new seral dramatzaton of the youthful years of Thomas Alv-a Edson, wll open on the W ABC-Columba network Frday, May 15. from 2:45 to 3:00 P. M. EDST. Presented under auspces of the Thomas Alva Edson Foundaton as a memoral to the nventor, the program wll be heard weekly through May. June. July and August. The Edson Foundaton arranged the broadcasts n cooperaton wth CBS as a part of a campagn DO perpetuate the memory of Edson through gfts of scholarshps to deservng boys throughout the country. One hundred outstandng Amercan youths wll be chosen from ndustres and schools each year for hgher techncal and scentfc tranng. After exhaustve tests. Jeoffrey Bryant has been chosen to play the role of Edson. Recently a star of "She Loves Me Not" and a promnent player n "Celng Zero." he was pcked from 100 asprants for the Edson mpersonaton. He wll be supported by a group of stage and rado players. The frst epsode of "The Boy MI" pcks the youth up at the age of 15 when he held the job of news butcher" on a mxed tran runnng out of Detrot. Between blp through the tran wth hs newspapers and magaznes, the boy occuped hmself wth the edtng and prntng of hs "Weekly Herald" wth ts news pcked up from telegraph operators along the route, and wth experments conducted n hs "laboratory". Ths "laboratory", set up n a corner of the baggage car, ultmately proved hs undong. A too ambtous experment exploded S.T.C. Prncess Faculty Members. T. C. Celebrates Attends Festval And Ten Students of Apple Blossoms Attend Conventon Tac Waters Goes To Wnchester Aprl 30 As a prncess n the Apple Blossom Festval, Tac Waters left Farmvlle on Thursday. Aprl 30, for Wnchester. Tac drove to the fete accompaned by Mss Stubbs. "Tb" Smmerman, and Vrgna Paker. Immedately upon arrval, Tac regstered at Prncess' Headquarters, the Southern Inn. At ten A. M. everyone assembled at the headquarters n costume for pctures to be taken. After ths the rehearsal for the coronaton was held at Handley stadum. On the same mornng was the School Chldren's Parade, made up entrely of chldren of the schools of Frederck county. Early n the afternoon, all the prncesses assembled agan at headquarters n costume n readness for the coronaton. At three o'clock the actual crownng of Mss Cornela Anne Lams took place, and she was proclamed to all the world as Queen Shenandoah XIII. An arrval show at 4:30 took many of the vstors to Admral Byrd Arport and others to a tea dance at the Golf Club. The demonstraton was a "dress-rehearsal." Amercan Student Unon offcals sad, for the course to be followed n the event Amerca ever declares anotber war. Although no accurate fgures were obtanable, wth the number demonstratng estmated as hgh as by some observers, attendance was obvously greatly n excess of the predcted a few weeks ago by Joseph Lash, natonal secretary of the Student Unon. Meetng Conventon Is Held In Mnneapols on Aprl 23 Frances Hudgns. presdent of the Athletc Assocaton for next year, returned Sunday from the Egth Natonal Conference of the Amercan Federaton of College Women for the Woman's Athletc Assocaton, whch was held at tn Unversty of Mnnesota Aprl , wth headquarters at the Curts Hotel. Ths conventon s held every three years, and - attended by colleges from all parts of the Unted States. Ths real brought approxmately four hundred delegates from every state n the Unon.
