4 Shasta Miners and Prospectors Association (SMPA) DEC 2015 Pg. 4 Susan Doyle Shasta Miners and Prospectors Meeting Minutes Submitted by Susan Doyle Nov 19, 2015 Minutes Anderson Grange Hall 8085 Airport Way, Redding, CA President Diana Clayton called the meeting to order at 7:12 pm. Kenny Chinn led the members in the flag salute. Diana welcomed everyone and requested all guests, and new members present to introduce themselves and express their interest. Diana then introduced the candidates for positions on the Board. Announcements President Clayton thanked members for their donations to the Christmas Raffle, including a quilt from Cassie Zucco, chocolate from Emily Rankin, and a 1/10 oz. gold American Eagle Coin, from the New 49er s. Bob Burdett won a nugget from the New 49er s raffle. Miner of the Month Bill Doyle was named Miner of the Month for December. President Clayton then introduced all the Miner s of the Month for 2015, for the purpose of voting for Miner of the Year. Gene Clayton graciously removed his name from the ballot because he has been so honored in the past. Meeting Program Kenny Chinn gave a brief overview of SB637, which has already passed the California Legislature and been signed into law by Governor Brown. It will go into effect on January 1 st, The law will require obtaining a permit for which there has been no provision. Nothing motorized may be used in the water for the purpose of mining. Panning is exempt, (with permit?). The Club is trying to get a person of authority for the January Meeting to discuss the new law.the feeling is that this was pushed through the legislative process to defeat the Reinhart Decision. Show & Tell Bob Burdett demonstrated a dry washer of his design and fabrication and discussed his past use of this method of mining, in view of SB637, a very timely exercise. Jim Fisher brought in his collection of meteorites, collected over time, mostly in the Arizona Gold Basin. Jim has worked with the University of Arizona, plotting the locations of the meteorites to determine impact locations. His display is of CL4 meteorites, a combination of iron & nickel. Bob Carpenter brought in a piece of wood that looked like a creature with teeth. Find of the Month There were no submissions for Find of the Month. Claims Report Mike Abernathy was not in attendance, he was celebrating his birthday; however, he sent word that he would be at Chick s Place, on Saturday, November 9:00 am for a mining outing. Metal Detecting Bill Doyle The October Outing was held at Shastice Park, in the City of Mount Shasta, on Saturday, October 24, Nine persons attended, everyone found some change. Bill assisted persons with familiarization of their detectors, and techniques. Bob Graff suggested detecting under the Diestlehorst Bridge, an area that was recently cleared of brush and where there are building foundations. The area is populated with the homeless and members are advised to take precautions. The November Outing will be at Foothill High School, 9:00 am, Saturday, November 28 th. Treasurer s Report Wayne King Wayne reports that money is coming in from the Christmas Party & Raffle Tickets. Total Club assets are 2, A copy of Wayne s report is submitted with the minutes. Minutes The Minutes of the October Meeting were accepted as presented in the newsletter, without correction, on a voice vote. Logo/Clothing Mary Ann Stevens reports that members are picking up their ordered items, check with her if you are waiting for an order. Membership Donna Davis Reservations are coming in for the Christmas Party. Remember to turn in the stubs with your name on them for the raffle.
