2 TEXAS STATE CONFERENCE Knights of Peter Claver, Ladies Auxiliary December 2016 We are providing you with the information for the 2017 Texas State Conference to be held in Corpus Christi, Texas from May 5 thru May 7, 2017 at the beautiful Omni Corpus Christi Hotel. It is our hope that each of you take the time to visit the many wonderful attractions and sites. The city will be celebrating Cinco De Mayo the weekend of our conference. This year s conference will focus on resolutions. It is my sincere hope that you take advantage of this opportunity to present your ideas on what you believe will improve our great organization. If your resolution is approved, it will be included in our by-laws. As Clavers, we have a responsibility to be outstanding examples in showing charity to human kind. Lets demonstrate by our efforts during the Mickey Leland Food Drive, our Veterans Service Project, and in our support of our priests and parishes that we are truly doing God s work here on earth. Let us all pray that our meetings at the 2017 State Conference will be productive and enjoyable, and that our conference set the standard for all future State and District Conferences. For all Grand Knights, please be mindful to retain a copy of the Conference Credential Form to ensure that the Credentials Committee has your Council s proper Conference Credentials. 6 Conference Scholarship Banquet The Texas State Conference Scholarship Banquet will be on Friday, May 5, 2017, tentatively at 7:00 PM. The cost of the Scholarship Banquet is $40.00 per person which is due by March 30, PLEASE REMEMBER, Council checks are preferred, however, a cashier s check or a money order will be acceptable. Please make all checks or money orders payable to KPC TSC SCHOLARSHIP. NO PERSONAL CHECKS PLEASE. Tax Assessments PER CAPITA ASSESSMENT: Please DO NOT FORGET to remit the PER CAPITA ASSESSMENT in the amount of.75 cents per member, per Council based on the membership of each Council as of December 31, Human Development Fund The Texas State Conference Human Development Fund provides financial support to creditable organizations that have as their purpose, programs for improving the quality of life for citizens in their communities. HUMAN DEVELOPMENT FUND: Please DO NOT FORGET to remit the HUMAN DEVELOPMENT ASSESSMENT in the sum of $20.00 per Council. Proceeds from this are used towards the Human Development Committee during the Conference. 50 / 50 RAFFLE In an effort to increase our Charity funds, the Texas State Conference Knight s Board voted in October, 2010, to offer a 50 /50 Raffle to the membership on site at Texas State Conference. 100% of the profit will go towards charity. Please support this very special raffle at the Conference. Conference Souvenir Booklet Advertisements Package Included We encourage each Council to purchase an advertisement in the Texas State Conference Souvenir Booklet. Texas State Conference Honors Each year, we present to an exemplary individual the Annual Mose M. Hopkins Award at the Texas State Conference Annual Scholarship Banquet. The Mose M. Hopkins Award is presented to an Outstanding Knight in the State of Texas who has made outstanding contributions to the Church, Community and Claverism. Each Council is asked to submit an exemplary Knight from your Council, who is to be honored at the Texas State Conference Annual Scholarship Banquet as the 2016 Outstanding Knight of the Year Award by their Council. The Council may also submit a nominee for Commander of the Year Award.

7 Conference Charitable Assistance / George Mickey Leland Food Drive We respectfully request that each Council, Court & Junior Divisions, JOINTLY, submit the amount of monetary donations along with the amount of non-perishable items that were contributed to the 25th Annual George Mickey Leland Food Drive which should be held the weekend of April 9, Councils and Courts are also requested to submit, JOINTLY, the amount of monetary donations along with the number of hours contributed in the past year. (See Mickey Leland Food Drive Insert) Conference Mass for our Deceased Members The Texas State Conference Mass will be held on Saturday afternoon of the Conference. This Celebration is for our Deceased Members who have gone home to their rest. If your Council has members that have gone home since the last Conference. Texas KPC 100 Club The Texas KPC 100 Club is always seeking new members. The KPC 100 Club is a project used to establish a perpetual fund of $100,000. The interest accrued from these funds will be used for religious vocations, religious education, sickle cell research and the United Negro College Fund. In order to become a member, you must make a one-time donation of $100. For more information see KPC application and T-Shirt Order Insert Emerging Leaders The Emerging Leaders of our Noble Order are seeking new members as this committee continues their efforts of Bridging the Gap of our membership. This committee will continue its 9 th Annual John Freeman and Dorothy Crawford Literacy Project Book Drive for literacy. Each Division of our Order is asked to donate four new children s books, short novels, for our youth between the ages of 2 to 14. You can turn in these books at the Emerging Leaders Registration Table. The Emerging Leaders will be leading us in the Rosary on Saturday and Sunday mornings of the Conference. If your Council has members between the ages of and are attending the conference, please join us as we start our day in prayer. The room assignment where the Rosary is to be recited will be posted within the agenda booklet. Please remember, the reporting forms are included in the conference registration packet, which are to be complete and return to your respective State President.
