Our creator wanted, in creation, for us to be like Him and possess a capacity to love. The purpose was that we return God s love to us with loving Him. Unfortunately for us, our first parents fell short of this desire of God, and thus, allowed sin to enter our reality making the original intent for humanity harder to achieve. The purpose of our creation remains unchanged. We were created in God s image and likeness that we turn to Him in the very love He gives us. This is made difficult by our propensity to sin and the wounds sins cause. When we personally sin we choose to enter into brokenness and deny God the reciprocation of His love. We are wounding ourselves in a deep way. Not only are we not returning to God in love, but we are also denying ourselves the reception of God s free gift of love. This only serves to move us further away from God and His love. We must fight this movement and deny sin. However, this is not the only way we get wounded. The sins of others can wound us, especially if their sin is in direct relationship with us. The person may not intend to wound us, but nonetheless, we are wounded. Each of these wounds within our person affects our ability to love. We may not even realize their existence. We may have been living with the wound for so long or the wound may be so little we do not notice it. No matter the wounds condition, we can more easily love as God intends us to if the wound is allowed to heal. The glory of God does not leave us to our own devices to work on our woundedness alone. His greatest offer is the working of His Spirit. He also offers learned brothers and sisters to help guide us to healing. Next weekend we will have the fortunate opportunity to have someone one s help. The John Paul II Healing Center is coming to the parish to offer aid in our personal healing. 3 FIRST READING - Amos 7:12-15 Amaziah, priest of Bethel, said to Amos, Off with you, visionary, flee to the land of Judah! There earn your bread by prophesying, but never again prophesy in Bethel; for it is the king s sanctuary and a royal temple. Amos answered Amaziah, I was no prophet, nor have I belonged to a company of prophets; I was a shepherd and a dresser of sycamores. The LORD took me from following the flock, and said to me, Go, prophesy to my people Israel. NEXT SUNDAY S READINGS JULY 15, and on earth. In him we were also chosen, destined in accord with the purpose of the One who accomplishes all things according to the intention of his will, so that we might exist for the praise of his glory, we who first hoped in Christ. In him you also, who have heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and have believed in him, were sealed with the promised holy Spirit, which is the first installment of our inheritance toward redemption as God s possession, to the praise of his glory. SECOND READING - Ephesians 1:13-14 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens, as he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and without blemish before him. In love he destined us for adoption to himself through Jesus Christ, in accord with the favor of his will, for the praise of the glory of his grace that he granted us in the beloved. In him we have redemption by his blood, the forgiveness of transgressions, in accord with the riches of his grace that he lavished upon us. He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick no food, no sack, no money in their belts. They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic. He said to them, Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave. Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them. So they went off and preached repentance. The Twelve drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them. Month of the Precious Blood... The month of July traditionally honors the Most Precious Blood of Jesus. It is the blood of Christ, the Lamb of God, which cleanses from sin, therefore the Church developed a devotion to Jesus' physical blood and its mystical power, just as it did for his Sacred Heart from which his blood poured out on the Cross. The Precious Blood of Jesus courses through the Church spiritually, giving eternal life to the Body of Christ through the sacraments. Many saints had a devotion to the Precious Blood of Jesus, most notably St. Catherine of Siena. Devotion to the Precious Blood spread greatly through the preaching of Saint Gaspar del Bufalo, a 19th century priest and founder of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, and was later approved and recommended by the Holy See. Everything we have and all that we are is given to us by God because he loves us and trusts us to be good stewards of his love gifts. A good steward receives God s gifts gratefully, cherishes them because they come from God, shares them, and returns them to God with interest. But that requires knowing the secrets of good stewardship. Stewardship flows from love. Good stewards are always aware of what God has given them and are deeply grateful. They know that they didn t earn their talents or resources and understand that they come from a Father who asks only for true love in return. Giving feels good. Part of stewardship is sharing God s gifts with those in need, whether it is our time, talents, or treasure. It feels good to be able to meet another person s needs in this way. Stewards are instruments. Stewardship is actually God s love flowing through us and pouring out through us to reach his other children. The good steward joins in God s own generous nature by acting as God s hands on Earth. God s purpose is the point. When we waste our talents, dawdle in pointless pursuits, or squander our resources, we put our own desires first ahead of God s will. Stewardship is living out a commitment to be God-centered rather than self-centered. One Minute Meditation.God is always present. Although the world around is changing, God stays the same. He can be trusted to provide love, support, strength, patience, wisdom, insight, and creativity when we ask.
