We have just finished the garden spending some of the monies building the garden shed, we have moved a flowerbed and replanted it. In the next few weeks we are having the carport re-done (where I park my beloved car). The carport floor has 4 dents one for each wheel! I am having the old tarmac up, the ground levelled and new tarmac laid. Jan and I have enjoyed a few meals out; it gets me out of the kitchen! I have saved some money to buy something special in South Africa, where we are to holiday soon, to remind me of the kindness of the village. All the best Message from Denise at The Wheatsheaf A huge thank you to everyone who sent me birthday wishes and contributed to my gift. I had a wonderful 50th birthday in Scotland but was happy to return home to Bow Brickhill. I must be the luckiest landlady in the Country!! 4 ALL SAINTS LUNCH CLUB The September meeting of the lunch club will be on Sunday 22nd when we will be celebrating our 9 th birthday! The club was formed in 2004 with the aim of providing a good lunch and fellowship in a friendly atmosphere. New guests are always welcome, particularly any one who lives alone, to join us and enjoy some company and share a traditional Sunday lunch. Transport to and from the hall is available. Please contact Kay or Stuart Leeming on to book in or if you would like any further information. Dear Bow Brickhill residents, Some of you may know that there is a great deal of activity going on in the village at the moment in planning and development terms; the long term plan for the expansion of Milton Keynes which could significantly affect our village the changes to the railway, the level crossings and the field crossings all along the Bow Brickhill boundary planning applications for development on, around and outside the boundaries of our village the rapidly developing neighbourhood plan for Bow Brickhill, the traffic management plans for the village and the changes that it will bring All of these activities (and this is just a few from a long list) WILL affect YOU in some way, its crucial that you stay informed, up to date and able to speak out where you feel your voice needs to be heard The BEST way to begin this process is to join the BowBrickhill Yahoo group. (it s easy to join, just follow the instruction on link) Please try to join the group so that you can stay informed and comment, this village needs its villagers to make their voices heard Best Clive Robert Village Choir Do you like to sing in the shower? Can you hold a tune? If so, your choir would love to hear from you! We really need more members to join our ranks right now and would welcome anyone who wants to find out more. If you would like to come along for a taster any Monday night (7:30pm at Great Brickhill Church) it would be great to have you along. We sing all sorts of things and you can do as much or as little as you like. The main thing is to have fun through singing with others. To find out more, just turn up on a Monday evening or call Sue on OFCOM propose to change the way that residents of MK dial phone numbers from 1st October Instead of being able to simply dial a local number within the STD area without the STD code, residents will be required to dial the full number including STD code. The consultation closes on 13 September Ofcom expects to publish its decision in a statement later in the autumn. Please follow the link above for details on how to comment if you are reading this on the e-group site or use the following website address MILTON KEYNES READER SERVICE Charity No Do you have difficulty in finding speakers for your meetings? If so, we may be able to help. Milton Keynes Reader Service is a free and independent charitable organisation that offers a range of services to visually impaired people living in Milton Keynes. We would very much like to come and talk to local groups about our work. We think our services are unique and we would like to make more people aware of what we do. We have already given presentations to rotary clubs, WIs, church groups and charities in Milton Keynes and these have been received with enthusiasm and interest. If you would like to know more about us, please contact Liz Roe, Talks Co-ordinator, on lizroe@tiscali.co.uk or Tel: This is not a fundraising exercise but an opportunity for the Service to raise its profile within our community

Saranjeet Chana : Neighbourhoods Technical Officer T: : Milton Keynes Council Synergy Park Chesney Wold Bleak Hall Milton Keynes MK6 1LY G4S Care and Justice Services Since 2011 G4S Care and Justice Services working in conjunction with Milton Keynes Youth Offending Team has delivered the Reparation service enabling young people to give something back and enhance their local communities. Reparation is a practical way for young people to pay back for the harm caused by the offence completing constructive relevant and useful projects which help and improve the local community. Former chief executive of the YJB said We believe local communities have good ideas about how to improve youth justice, and young people are less likely to re-offend after participating in reparation schemes. Reparation is intended to prevent the young people continuing to offend by helping them to understand the effects of crime on the victim(s) and how to make amends. It is a sentence of the court and is supervised by a member of the Youth Offending Team. As a valued member of the community we are asking what suitable projects you would like completing in your area. We look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your contribution. Linzi Hodgson Sarah Malden linzi.hodgson@uk.g4s.com Sarah.malden@uk.g4s.com CHURCH NEWS 1. In Memoriam : Sunday 3rd November At the celebration of All Saints, our patronal festival, we are inviting those whose loved ones are buried in the churchyard at Bow Brickhill to attend our Holy Communion service at 9.30 am on 3rd November. If you know of anyone you think would like to be invited to this service, please let us know. 2.PCC Secretary : Vacancy We were sad to receive Cynthia Wilkins' resignation from her post as Parochial Church Council secretary; one that she has fulfilled for many years and which included hosting meetings at her house. Our very grateful thanks go to Cynthia for all her hard work for so very long. This leaves a vacancy on the PCC and also for the post of secretary. If you could help, please contact one of the Church Wardens. 3.Parochial Church Council : Thursday 12th September The next meeting of the PCC will be at the Church Hall at 8 pm on Thursday 12th of September. 4.Bucks Historic Churches Bike Ride : Saturday 14th September Every year there is a sponsored bike ride (but you could ride a horse instead, or even walk) when it's your opportunity to ride round the area, visiting as many churches as you can, and to prevail upon your neighbours to sponsor you generously per church visited. It's a great way to discover the area and you'll meet some interesting people as you travel round. The date this year is Sat 14th of September. More information can be found at: 5. Off to the Tower : Saturday 14th September On the same day that the sponsored bike ride is taking place, Saturday 14th September, All Saints tower will be open to visitors and refreshments will be available at the church. However some additional help is required to help to staff this event, to make a few cup cakes and to be there to welcome our visitors. If you can help, please contact Diana Kesterton. 11 4

6 Care of our churchyard All Saints Church, Bow Brickhill The churchyard is cared for by volunteers and family and friends of the deceased. It is sited in an area of natural beauty on the edge of woodland and the peace and tranquillity is enjoyed by many. The Diocese of Oxford, which owns the land in trust, has a number of rules which are designed to maintain a good standard of care and uniformity. Graves may not be fenced or otherwise delineated Individual gardens, fencing or shrubs are not permitted. Only cut flowers or wreaths may be left at the graveside. Toys or similar ornaments may be left at the graveside of an infant for a year after the burial or internment. The complete set of Diocesan guidance and rules for memorials and inscriptions can be found on-line at All Saints Parochial Church Council appreciates the dilemma of those who wish to leave a floral tribute. The churchyard is not always easy to access and the deer often demolish fresh flowers and shoots. Therefore daffodils, heather and small patio roses are the best option. Holly wreaths may be placed on the grave at Christmas but must be removed by Easter at the latest. Would you like to help us maintain the churchyard? Here s how you can help: Join the small maintenance team to cut the grass, tidy hedges, burn leaves, empty bins etc. Do not leave plastic wreaths or flowers at the grave. Please use the compost, rubbish and recycling bins provided. Make a donation toward the upkeep of the churchyard. To volunteer for the maintenance team or to make a donation contact a Church Warden or Brenda Goodger (member of PCC) at 33 Church Road, Bow Brickhill MK17 9LH TAKEAWAY TUESDAY 3rd Sept Curry 10th Sept Fish & Chips 17th Sept Curry 24th Sept Fish & Chips 1st Oct Curry Phone your order through or pop down and have a cheeky drink while your food is cooked for you WEDNESDAY WINE CLUB SEPTEMBER 25TH Guess the Grape?? The works are being carried out by the Highways Agency funded by the S106 Agreement for the Newton Leys development. The basic premise of the works is to signalise the roundabout to increase traffic flows. As this is a Highways Agency contract the traffic management has been approved by them and although MK Council have commented on aspects of the traffic management, ultimately it is their scheme and responsibility.
