4 Thought for the Month : Matthew Chapter 7 verses 1-5 Don t judge others, and God will not judge you. If you judge others, you will be judged the same way you judge them. God will treat you the same way you treat others. Why do you notice the small piece of dust that is in your friend s eye, but you don t notice the big piece of wood that is in your own? Why do you say to your friend, Let me take that piece of dust out of your eye? Look at yourself first. You still have that big piece of wood in your own eye. You are a hypocrite. First, take the wood out of your own eye. Then you will see clearly to get the dust out of your friend s eye. Church Hall Drop In : Wednesday 11th The church hall is open on the second Wednesday of the month for anyone to drop in during the afternoon for the chance to meet up with others and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a chat. The October get together is on Wednesday 11th anytime between 2.30pm and 4.30pm. All Saints Lunch Club : Sunday 15 th On September 10th 14 guests and helpers enjoyed an excellent roast lunch and special cake to mark the anniversary of 13 years of the lunch club. Thanks go to all those who prepare and provide the food each month and help with transport. Our October meeting will take place on Sunday 15 th at the usual time of 12.30pm at the church hall. All are welcome, particularly those who live alone, and transport to and from the lunch can be arranged. FEAST OF FIRE: Saturday 21 October from 6.30pm in Central Milton Keynes, FREE To celebrate MK50, Milton Keynes will come together on Saturday 21 October for Feast of Fire. This magical and fiery event has been created by outdoor arts company Walk the Plank, commissioned by City Club and produced by IF: Milton Keynes International Festival. The Feast of Fire organisers would like to invite people across Milton Keynes to sign up, or nominate people to take part in the Procession. They are looking for people of all ages and backgrounds, and would like to include the broadest possible cross-section of people, showing Milton Keynes to be the diverse, vibrant city it has become over the past 50 years. The People s Procession will be by torchlight and start at the MK Rose in Campbell Park and work its way on level ground to a traffic-free Midsummer Boulevard and The Point car park. Participants can be young or old, living or working in the city, a community organiser, a group representative or someone who makes a difference Want to take part? On Saturday September 9th we had around 80 visitors to the church which were fewer than previous years, possibly due to the number of events taking place this year and the challenging weather, however the comments and feedback forms received were all very positive on the tower tours, amazing views across Milton Keynes and the gorgeous cakes. ASTRA Curry Night The annual ASTRA Curry buffet at The Jalori Restaurant in Woburn Sands is being held on Monday, November 6th. In spite of reduced numbers we raised the same amount for church funds as last year, 260 from the sale of refreshments and donations, so everyone was extremely generous. Thank you to all who came along to support the event and a very special thanks to those who manned the tower, served refreshments and made delicious cakes. Tickets are for an evening of delicious Indian food, with going to help ASTRA Community Projects rebuild the Church Hall. This is always a very popular event so, to reserve your tickets, contact Alan(alan.preen@electric-help.co.uk ) or Trish (trish@lesterel.co.uk ) Autumn Bazaar The Autumn Bazaar will take place on Saturday 25th November from 2-4pm at the Pavilion. 6 Community Speedwatch update - As everyone is hopefully aware, we will shortly be implementing the Community Speedwatch programme in Bow Brickhill - an opportunity for us all to participate in an initiative which will hopefully help to reduce the speed of traffic through the village. First step was to gather together sufficient "volunteers" to participate, this sort of programme is not a quick fix, for it to be effective over the medium to long term, we need enough folk joining in to operate a rota that means we can run the scheme and accommodate work, School, holiday commitments etc. I am pleased to report as of today approx. 28 villagers have put their names forward to participate in Speedwatch, an excellent result, but the more the merrier, if you would like to join in, just drop me an millsbbhill@btinternet.com Next step is for everyone to receive training and general guidelines from the MKC co-ordinator for Speedwatch, this should be taking place within the next 10 days - date, time and location to come shortly (if not already announced by the time you read this newsletter). Hopefully as many people as possible will be able to attend what will be a hands-on session, but don't worry if you can't make it, I am told the equipment is very easy to operate and other volunteers will be able to pass on their skills and lessons learned. A word to the wise - once we are up and running fully, as an incentive for everyone to stick to speed limits - we will of course be naming and shaming villagers caught by Speedwatch by handing out a small appropriate trophy which can be passed from person to person virtually via the village FB page and egroup. Bow Brickhill School is collecting various unwanted goods in conjunction with EcoKids in October. If you are able to support us in raising some funds for the school we would much appreciate it! EcoKids Clothing Recycling Project was founded in 2010 with the main aim of raising money for schools, PTAs and youth organisations through clothes recycling. Below is a handy list of the items EcoKids can accept (no longer just clothes). Items collected help deprived families and lower grade textiles are utilised and made into industrial wiping cloths. EcoKids are collecting the school s bags on Wednesday 18th October. Any bags can be dropped off at the school between 3-530pm on Tuesday 17th October or before 9am on Wednesday 18th October. If anyone would like a bag please contact Kim at kimgallacher@live.co.uk or at Poplar Farmhouse, 35 Station Road. Also, if home collection of donations would be helpful please don t hesitate to contact Kim.
