Thanks to your extravagant generosity, we are sending from our church 29 children and youth, and 9 adults a total of 38 people to the Southeast District United Methodist Summer Camp! Yeah! This is definitely a record! Most of the adults will be leaving Sunday afternoon to get ready for the kids who will arrive on Monday morning. Our campers will be traveling by caravan, leaving the church on Monday DAN S DIVINITIES morning, July 19, at 7:30 a.m., and returning to Silsbee on Friday, around 5:00 p.m. The fact that we are sending so many to camp is a testimony to the effectiveness of our outreach programs to children and youth over the last few years. Let s keep up the good work! I have asked our campers and adults to attend worship in one of our services Sunday morning that we might send them off with our blessings. They will also be loading their camp gear into a U-Haul trailer Sunday morning, so please be aware of extra people in the parking lot as you arrive. I hope to be able to make them more interesting by putting more thought and planning in them. Last Sunday we changed the order of worship up a bit in the second service, and brought forth the object lesson of the watermelon seeds. This started a series of sermons on the extravagant generosity of God. This Sunday, I will be preaching from Luke 17:5-21, which includes the story of the Cleansing of the Ten Lepers, only one of whom returned to give thanks to Jesus for his healing. In subsequent weeks, I ll be looking at other parables and miracle stories of Jesus that also teach us about the extravagant generosity of God. I hope you will make every effort to be present each week.

We are currently experiencing a shortage of people to run the powerpoint presentations for both services on Sunday mornings. This is causing a heavy load on those currently operating the systems. If you have any interest in learning how to operate the video systems for the church, and are willing to help out, please call Jennifer in the church office. The powerpoint slide shows are a vital part of our services, and we would like to make sure we have enough people to continue this ministry to the church Youth in Service! What a fantastic youth group we have at our church! Our youth volunteered to serve the Welcome Meal to the UM Army on Sunday, July 11, and did a wonderful job. Dressed out in army t- shirts, they arrived to serve up 30 pizzas, salad, drinks, and desserts to the 101 people that made up our UM Army camp this year. We would like to offer a special thanks to Shelley Jones for providing a variety of desserts. Youth Group News! Our youth recently hosted a District Youth event at Artesian Springs on Wednesday, July 7. The devotional focus was The United Body of Christ. There was a turnout of over 65 people, 25 of which were our very own! A special thanks to Joanna Watters and Paula Boehmer for transportation assistance. The choir is currently enjoying it s summer break, but Music will be back before Notes you know it! Enjoy your time off and come back ready to sing again in August! The first choir practice will be Wednesday, August 4 at 7:00 p.m. The praise band will continue to practice each Thursday night at 7:15, and are still looking for more members, so please see Julia Owens if you are interested in singing, or playing an instrument! In exciting news, Mike and Judy McMullen believe that our youth group will soon need to take their meetings back to Cravens Hall on Wednesday night due to outgrowing their facilities in the Methodist Center. 4 Page 4 Gifts June 20, 2010 $3, June 27, 2010 $6, July 4, 2010 $7, Shoes for the Homeless Our church has received a request from the New Covenant Assembly of God Church to assist them in a ministry opportunity. Upon a recent visit to a soup kitchen in Beaumont, it was noticed that they are in need of men s shoes, used (wearable) or new. Most of the men at the shelter were large men with big feet and the shelter has a difficult time providing shoes. If you have any shoes that you would like to donate, please bring them by the church office and we will pass them along to be delivered to the shelter. Supporting our Conference Missionary We Have Been Invaded! The U.M. Army arrived in Silsbee this past Saturday, July 10th, and they have been hard at work in our community! They are building a number of wheelchair ramps for people in the surrounding communities, as well as taking care of repairs such as painting, filling in yard dirt, and various other tasks that homeowners are not able to do themselves. We would like to offer a special thanks to all of the church members that have helped make this visit possible. Mike Suitt did a wonderful job as the local liaison for the UM Army, coordinating showers, a welcome meal for over 100 people, and putting them in touch with local contacts such as Parkers We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure Hebrews 6:19 Over the past few years, our missionaries in Unalaska have developed a few kits to assist them in their ministry to workers and their families who come to Unalaska seeking employment. Sometimes they find themselves without work, without food, without a place to stay, or even a way to return to their homes, which may be thousands of miles away. This summer, we have been collecting a number of items to send to the missionaries to aid them in their work. Dagma Murphy would like to mail these items off soon, so we are requesting that you turn in all contributions by the end of July. If you need a list of items to be donated, please contact the church office at UM Army Arrives at FUMC Lumber and Read Ice Company. We appreciate his hard work, as well as the work of all our church members that volunteered time and money to make this stay a smooth one!

5 Page 5 SUMMER CAMP NEWS! Letters to Campers You can have an active ministry to our campers, counselors, and staff persons by writing letters of encouragement to them. On the outside of the envelope write the campers name, the grade level camp (4/5, 6/7, 8/9, or 10/11/12), and the day of the week you want it delivered. After you write your letters, drop them in the box outside the church office no later than this Sunday at noon. Dr. Darby will take them to Lakeview and deliver them to the age level camp, who will deliver them to the appropriate person on the appropriate day. No postage is necessary since they will not go through the US mail system. At 5:30 p.m. that evening, we will be serving up fried c a t f i s h a n d hushpuppies. This wonderful meal will be f o l l o w e d b y a Children s Ministry Fair at 6:30 p.m., at which time the various children s programs will be presenting information on their ministry. This is an all church event, and we would like to invite everyone to attend, learn more about the children s ministries in our church, and volunteer for the upcoming school year so that we can continue to have a growing ministry to the children of our community!
