2 Welcome Snowbirds & Seagulls! Snowbirds & Seagulls ministry is a weekly program that continues through the end of March. This ministry is geared for the local and snowbird seniors. The weekly programs are held on Thursday mornings and weekly golf outings take place on Tuesday mornings. Information packets and applications are available in the church office. IN REMEMBRANCE Bonnie Nichols Bultman October 13, 1928 February 4, 2019 I am the resurrection and the life; those that believe in me, even though they die, yet shall they live. FUMC Centennial Moments for February: MYF in Our House Marc Smith s father, Dr. J Marcus Smith, was very active in leading FUMC s MYF in the 50s and 60s as well as teaching the Bible to the same group in Sunday School and allowing them to be just kids. His interaction with young people was gratifying. He led fun group activities like watermelon seed-spitting and singing Christmas carols in the middle of summer with windows wide open in the Asbury Building classroom. Dr. Smith had a lot of support from his wife Frankie with Bill Sigmon, Rena Mae Bellamy and others. In the years following, Toby and Ann Ward along with Don and Janice Myers led the group in many activities including Garden City Chapel, Look Up Lodge in Travelers Rest, Lake Junaluska, and Christmas caroling with Don Meyers driving the bus and dressed up as Santa. In the 1990s and 2000s, Mike Allen and Jim Magann were leaders with the help of many active parents. Teenagers from other churches joined with FUMC youth for programs, activities, and outings. Three generations of the Smith family have cherished memories of MYF through these years, enjoying good times and great people. 4 Youth activities Coming Up: Feb 10th: The 925 Feb 12th: High School Breakfast & Devo Feb 14th: Middle School Breakfast & Devo Feb 17th: NO 925 Our one day canned food drive on Super Bowl Sunday was a HUGE success! We not only met our goal of 300 hundred canned, non-perishable items, but we more than doubled it and collected 667 items that equates to 740 lbs. of food!! Thank you church family for helping the youth to be successful, once again, in their attempts to be the hands and feet of Christ we are all in this together. Our church offers Holy Communion at home to thirty-one "shut-in" members who are physically unable to attend services. It is our desire to reach all church members who are unable to attend services on communion dates because of physical limitations, recovery from surgery, or other non-contagious medical events. One provider can comfortably deliver communion to one or two people. We need more volunteers for this very satisfying ministry. If you would like to bring communion to someone, or if you are aware of someone who would love to have the communion elements brought to them, please contact Carl Lenart at God bless you. COMBINED WORSHIP SUNDAYS Any month that has a 5th Sunday, we will worship together in one combined service at 10:00AM in the Sanctuary. On that day, Sunday School will meet at 9:00AM.
