2 C H I L H O W E E B A P T I S T M E S S E N G E R C H A R M Page 2 Charm has continued through the winter months serving the people of Townsend. We have continued with church services at the Charm Backcountry building on Sundays'. We also had a chili supper with gospel music for the community. It was well received and everyone loved singing the older hymns. We hope to continue having events in the building so that people will come and see what Charm is about and to hear the word of God shared. In March we are planning a bingo night and meal. As of right now it is being planned but no date set. We also had the opportunity to share at Townsend elementary about different countries and their cultures. We are blessed by the support we have received from Townsend and its people. Kathy has continue the Bible studies for the motel workers each Sunday. Since many of the workers are laid off right now she mails them out so they can still hear and read about our Lord Jesus. Through this ministry Kathy has and is sharing with a lady whose husband has cancer. He is beginning to ask his wife questions about prayer. We ask that you join us in prayer and pray for Randy. Pray that he will come to know the Lord that is the great physician. Charm is leading a team to Puerto Rico February 20th thru the 27th. Steve and Sandra Monroe are leading the team along with Charm members, Steve and Shelly Self, Charles Potter, Steve Myers. Also we have 3 volunteers...billy Reynolds, Mark and Samantha Chipperfield. We will be serving the Iglesia Bautista Raham Church in Guayama. Our purpose there is to ready the church for upcoming mission teams and serve the community. Six sets of bunk beds are to be built, water heater to be installed and serving food in the community. We are blessed to be able to go and serve in Puerto Rico. There is much to be done there and the needs are great. Our motto for serving Mark 10:45..Jesus came to serve not to be served. He gave his life as a ransom for many. How can you be a part of Charm in serving? We have many events in the summer that you can be involved in. Your youth, WMU, Sunday School classes you all can be a part of sharing Jesus through serving in Townsend. Do you have a couple of hours to give of service in the Upside Down Ministry, can you write cards for the motel ministry, are you willing to hold a evening event at a local campground? If so please contact us we can help you with that. We are not to just sit and listen to the word of God but God s word tells us to go and tell. Townsend needs you..are you willing? 3 V O L U M E 7 I S S U E 2 Page 3 B A P T I S T C E N T E R Families Served by the Chilhowee Baptist Center Dec Jan 2018 SERVICES NUMBER OF FAMILIES Benevolence 16 (Utility support, gasoline) Blankets 64 Clothing 194 Diapers 2 Food 678 Toiletries 655 Cleaning supplies 653 Furniture 21 Christmas Food Boxes have become a popular item in only 2 years. We were able to distribute 250 boxes to families in need. This new approach has given us opportunity to reach out to over 3 times the number of families we served when we only gave toys. Many families without children are also helped through the food boxes. With the food boxes we were able to provide small drawstring bags with snack foods for children who will be home during the school break. This will assure that they will not go hungry while they are away from school. Infants and toddlers were also given gift bags with supplies a parent will need for very small children. Reconciled Ministries has become a very encouraging and worshipful experience for us. The meal and message approach with the casual fellowship and deep worship keeps us looking forward to each Thursday evening to see what God has done in the lives of those who are coming. It has been refreshing to pastors and leaders involved, encouraging to those who are looking for restored lives, and a place to worship for those with no other church family. We reach around 40 sometimes but are almost always in the range of 30. We do have new folks every few weeks and many become regular attendees. Please pray for us as we continue to encourage those who come from hard places in life to look to our Lord and Savior for salvation. It is time to gather supplies for our annual Resurrection Event! Please help us reach our community by providing totes filled with cleaning supplies and toiletry items. We are asking that all totes be brought in by March 28, so that we can count and make sure we have enough for everyone. On April 7, we will be able to pass the totes out to our clients after having a short devotion time and sharing the Gospel with them. We ask that you not only help with supplies, but also please be praying for us and for them as we share the message of Christ, as that is truly the greatest gift that can be shared! If you are able, we are also in need of children's underwear and socks. We are often asked for these items, and love to be able to help the kids. As always, our churches are very generous and help us meet so many needs. Churches to bring food in March: Friendsville First Baptist, Armona, Greenback Memorial, Mt. Zion, Oak Street, Smokey View, Springview. Churches to bring food in April: Madison Avenue, Allegheny, Bethel, Caylor s Chapel, Ellejoy, Kagley s Chapel Serving Him Together, Rick and Sue Myers

5 CAMP TIPTON V O L U M E 7 I S S U E 2 Page 5 As Spring rolls in, there are a lot of exciting things going on at Camp Tipton. We had our interest meeting for volunteers to build the bunkhouse in January, and we are in full swing to get the project started. We are simply waiting on approval from the government, and then we will begin building. If you couldn t make it to the meeting or are interested in helping in some way, please contact Camp at Registration for Summer Camp is now open! If you are looking for place for your child or grandchild to have a blast and learn about the truth of God s word this summer, consider sending them to Camp Tipton. For just $100 per week, children in elementary and middle school can come to Camp from as early as 7:30 and leave as late as 6:00. This is such a great opportunity for families who need childcare, or simply want their child to have a fun week. For registration information go to March and April are also a great time for retreats at Camp Tipton. We have many activities available to your group, including paintball, rock climbing, team building games, octoball, and many more. Take advantage of the spring weather one weekend with your church group and get away for some rest and recreation. There is no better way to speak truth into someone than to get them out of their normal routine and share the truth of scripture with them. Call Camp for more details. Carter Brown Camp Tipton Director W M U Greetings in the name of Jesus. Just a few dates to remind you about. 7 Page 7 West Africa Update Praise The Lord! The Wells and Gardening project are under way. God has graciously provided the resources needed to begin the gardening project in our village in West Africa. Work is underway on 4 wells that will supply water year round to over 5 acres of gardens. You can see an example of an operational garden below. We are thankful for the financial support many individuals and churches have given to this project. Along with this project many stories of Jesus as the Living Water will be told. Pray for open ears and responsive hearts to these stories. God has also bless our friends there with a Baptismal pool. Our last Team in February was privileged to participate in a Baptismal service. Please continue to pray for the development of leaders for this small but growing group of believers. Want to go to West Africa and experience first hand the amazing work of God?
