1 YBA NEWS Volume 59, Issue 2 March /April 2017 is a network of churches working together in mission and ministry for the purposes of church growth and church renewal in the Durham- Chapel Hill Metro area. INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Rev. Marty Childers Director of Missions Prayer as a Strategy Quarterly YBA Meeting YBA Mission Trip Opportunities Senior Health Support BCH Food Roundup Disaster Relief Training Other Upcoming Events Church Announcements Calendar of Events 2100 Chapel Hill Road P.O. Box Durham, NC yatesbapt@frontier.com ASSOCIATION STAFF Rev. Marty Childers Director of Missions martychilders@yatesba.com Rev. Michael Bond Partnership Missionary mlbond2@frontier.com Ms. Teresa Dotson Administrative Coordinator tdotson5@frontier.com Mr. Steve Couch Moderator stephen.couch@frontier.com Greetings YBA family. Many positive things are happening within. There continues to be a sense of excitement and expectation to what God is doing and what he is going to do. We have 5 ministry teams that are seeking to know and carry out the will of God. More people are wanting to be a part of what God is doing. Churches and leaders are looking to do whatever it takes for the cause of the Gospel. Yet, my prayer continues to be that God will break our heart for what breaks His. In the last Newsletter, I asked a question that I hope each of our churches and every individual Christian will ask themselves. What is more important, my church s legacy or Kingdom advance. We currently have a number of churches who are intentionally in this process to strengthen and revitalize their local church. This is not easy. It means the church body must be willing to change in order to reach those unchurched and lost people all around us. We must repeatedly ask ourselves, is our personal comfort, our preferred style of worship, our history, or anything else more important than the advancement of God's Kingdom? We must be willing to put everything on the table and ask two questions. Is this helping us to reach the lost? Is this giving glory to God? I have heard Ed Stetzer say many times, if the 1960 s or 1970 s ever returned we would have a lot of churches ready to move forward. What he is saying is that we cannot just continue to do things as we have always done. We must be willing to be uncomfortable for the sake of the Gospel to be proclaimed to the generations. I remember when we first went to Costa Rica. One of the most difficult things we did during the week was to go to church, and I was a missionary! The language was different, I only understood a few words. The music was different. I didn t understand, in fact it gave me a headache just trying to strain to understand anything. But over the weeks and months I began to comprehend words and phrases. I began to feel Gods spirit moving and even though I didn t understand everything, I began to fall in love with the people and the worship that was foreign to me before. Let me be clear, I am not just speaking of changing worship styles and the look of a building, I am talking about a change of heart. Pray with me for our YBA churches that have initiated this process. Pray for your church and ask, how can it be relevant to our community and to our world. If we are waiting for them to come to us and adjust to us, then we will never reach those who are walking in darkness. We must GO! As your Director of Missions, I believe that we can do so much more together than we can do apart. Our desire is to help Encourage, Empower, and Equip you and your church to fulfill the Great Commission of Christ. Please let me know how we at YBA can pray for and help you as we work together to fulfill the Great Commission. In Christ, Marty Childers
