2 Page 2 M i s s i o n - A i d e r Matthew 13:3-9, PRAY GIVE GO Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions As Southern Baptists, we are all partners in sowing the seeds and firmly planting the gospel throughout North America. NAMB missionaries are involved in planting churches dedicated to ensuring that those who hear the good news of Jesus Christ are firmly planted in the gospel and are bearing fruit. The call to sow seeds is a call we all share, but we can t sow seeds sitting in the comfort of our homes or churches. We must sow individually and collectively with intentionality, and that means getting our hands dirty for the kingdom We don t sow only once, and we don t choose only the choicest soils. We sow generously and widely. Support our missionaries and our church plants with your intentional partnership. Make sure you are firmly planted so you can help others be the same. 100 % of your church s Annie Armstrong Easter Offering goes to the mission fields of the United States, Canada, and their territories. PLEASE MARK THE DATE OF MAY 7, 2014 ON YOUR CALENDARS. As Tennessee Baptists mark the 140 th Anniversary of the Convention, Dr. Randy Davis, our TBC Executive Director, is crossing the state of Tennessee with a special prayer emphasis called Praying across Tennessee. He will be leading a prayer rally and ringing the Salvation Bell in Hawkins County on Wednesday morning, May 7, 9:00 am on the Hawkins County Courthouse Square. He plans to also lead a prayer rally and ring the Salvation Bell at the Courthouse Square in Hancock County at 11:00 am. The purpose of these gatherings is to cry out to our only hope, the Lord Jesus Christ, for spiritual awakening. The rallies will also serve to sound the alarm for believers to return wholeheartedly to the work of the Great Commission in Tennessee. You can find a promo piece on the TBC Website and watch a video from Dr. Randy Davis. WE HOPE MANY OF OUR HVBA CHURCHES WILL BE REPRESENTED AT THESE SPECIAL TIMES OF PRAYER FOCUS.

3 Volume 130 Issue 8 Page 3 ANNUAL HVBA RA RACES Oak Grove Baptist Church, Mount Carmel Saturday, May 3 Weigh-ins will begin at 9:30 AM. Races will get under way at 10:00 AM. (Contact Michael Gillespie, HVBA RA Leader, at for further info.) mg71644@yahoo.com The Mother s Day Offering provides 36% of the operating budget for our ministries to children across the state of Tennessee. The mission of the Tennessee Baptist Children's Homes is to minister the love of Jesus Christ to children and families in crisis. Each year, our homes help children and families in crisis regardless of faith background through TBCH residential care, counseling, and other programs. Churches like yours make it possible to provide these services. Traditionally churches receive this offering in conjunction with the Sunday designated as Mother s Day. MOTHER S DAY IS SUNDAY, MAY 11! (Your church should receive resources from our TBCH to assist in the promotion of the Mother s Day Offering. Please call the Associational Office if you need assistance with materials.) Pastor Jim Zidan from Tullahoma, TN recently contacted our Associational Office. He has scheduled for someone to be with us at our May 13 Executive Board Meeting at Henards Chapel Baptist Church in Rogersville. There will be a presentation on the value of Amendment 1 that will be on the ballot in November in Tennessee. Information will be made available to churches to assist in bringing awareness to the importance of Amendment 1 in Tennessee. Come and learn how we can help Tennessee to be seen as a Pro Life state! We encourage all Executive Board members and pastors to make a special effort to be present at this meeting. Our Fellowship Meal will begin at 6:00 pm and the Board Meeting will follow at 6:45 pm.

Come and show your support for our Associational and State Partnership in Disaster Relief Ministry. Family Features On Sunday afternoon, March 30, Bro. Wayne Lumpkins was ordained to the Deacon Ministry of the Hickory Cove Baptist Church, Rogersville. Rev. Tommy Seals is the Hickory Cove Pastor. As many of you know the Briar Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Sneedville, burned to the ground recently. Churches have been wondering what they can do to help. A special account has been set up at the Civis Bank in Sneedville where financial support can be given to the church. The church did have insurance but the amount is not adequate to replace neither the building nor the furnishings. You are encouraged to call the bank at to get further guidance on the giving of love offerings to the church. If your church feels that there are other ways you would like to support Briar Creek you may call the Briar Creek Pastor, Joe Davis, at Please pray for the Speedwell Missionary Baptist Church, Rogersville, as the church continues their search for a new pastor. The Gills Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Rogersville, will be having Revival Services beginning on Thursday evening, April 24 and going through Sunday, April 27. All Evening Services will begin at 7:00 pm. Rev. John Parrott, Jr. will be the guest preacher. Rev. Kenneth Luckadoo is the Gills Chapel Pastor. Please pray for the Holston Valley DOM Search Committee: Rev. Gary Gerhardt (Pastor, FBC Church Hill), Chair; Rev. Keith Osborne (Bivocational Pastor, Choptack), Vice Chair; Rev. Jason Royston (Staff, East Rogersville), Secretary; Mrs. Linda Chinery (Lay person, Ridgeview); and Mr. Carlin Greene (Layman, FBC Sneedville). Having reached the deadline of March 15 for receiving resumes the Search Committee at this time is hard at work praying and reviewing the resumes that have been received Retiring Associational Missionary, Rev. John Parrott, Jr., is serving as interim-associational Missionary until a new person has been called. He is in the office two days a week and is doing supply and assisting churches in other ways that he can. Please pray for God s leadership upon the Search Committee. Pray for the leadership of the Association during this Search Process: Rev. John Parrott, Jr., Interim; Ms. Linda Williams, HVBA Ministry Assistant; Rev. Ron Grimes, Moderator; and Mr. Glyn Cuthrell, Associate Moderator.

5 Volume 130 Issue 8 Page 5 Tennessee Abortion Numbers Drop in Past Decade (Info provided here comes from an article written in The Tennessean by Anita Wadhwani) Quote- Newly released data on abortion in Tennessee reveal a steady decline in the number of abortions performed over the past decade and a steady increase in the percentage of out-of-state women heading to Tennessee for the procedure.. In the decade back from 2010 abortions were down 6 per cent. However the percentage of women coming from outside Tennessee for abortions increased by more than 30 per cent. One in four abortions in 2010 was sought by an out-of-state woman a result of bordering states passing abortion restrictions and a steep decline in abortion clinics in those states. -unquote We need to give serious attention to Amendment 1 that will be on the November ballot in Tennessee. Abortion laws in Tennessee are too lenient thus lending to the flow of women into Tennessee seeking abortions. The voice concerning abortion laws in Tennessee needs to be in the hands of the people of Tennessee and our elected congressional leaders not in the hands of a few judges. -John Parrott, Interim Associational Missionary Financial Report for MARCH Receipts Balance Gifts in An Itemized Report of Gifts BUDGET BUDGET CHURCHES IN MAR Bass Chapel 0.00 ` Beech Creek Belmont Bentleys Chapel Bethel Big Creek Burem Caney Creek Cave Springs Choptack Christians Bend Church Hill FBC Circle C.
