1 Alma Green Wheeler Cobb Lloyd (Obituary courtesy of Jill Sturgis) Independent Tribune (Cabarrus County) 11/5/2003 Alma Wheeler Cobb Lloyd, 87, formerly of 5760 Alexander Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at Lutheran Home of Salisbury after several years of declining health. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Whitley s Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. Chaplain Gene Bost of the Lutheran Home of Salisbury will officiate. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Born Jan. 8, 1916, in Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late Newt Wheeler and Winifred Holmes Wheeler. She was employed with W.T. Grant Co., Kannapolis for many years. Later she was employed with Fiber Industries, Inc. in Salisbury until her retirement in She was active in the developmental stages in bringing Hospice to Cabarrus County and was an active member of Bethpage Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis for many years until her illness. She was a resident of the area for most of her life. She was preceded in death by husbands W.M. Lloyd and Dixie G. Cobb; five brothers and sisters; and a son-in-law, Benny Whitley. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Whitley of Concord and Winifred Ann Measmer and husband Bobby of Salisbury; two sons, Gene Cobb and wife Doris of Concord and Jimmy Ray Cobb and wife Cathy of Mount Pleasant; eight grandchildren, Jill Sturgis, Eddie Whitley, Valdann Smith, Janice Whitley, Rene Damewood, Tamara Garifo, Brooke Moose and Colby Cobb and seven great-grandchildren. Alton Anderson Cobb September 30, 1995 Alton A. Cobb, 80, of Dunn died Friday in Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital. He retired from the Dunn Police Department as chief of police after 27 years and was a former chief of detectives. The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church by the Revs. J. Richard McDuffie, Tom Freeman and Phillip Boykin. Burial will be in the Angier Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Angier. Mr. Cobb is survived by his wife, Nettie N. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Skinner Funeral Home of Dunn. Annie Jean Partin Stewart January 19, 2000 COATS -- Mrs. Jean Partin Stewart, 67, of 217 E. Main St. died Monday in her home. Mrs. Stewart was a store manager for Short Stop Inc. before retiring. She was a member of Coats United Methodist Church and was a homemaker. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Coats United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tommy Smith. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Angier. Mrs. Stewart is survived by a daughter, Vickie S. Johnson of Coats; two sons, Davy Stewart and Nicky Stewart, both of Coats; a sister, Peggy Partin of Ashe County; and four grandsons. He was a personnel manager for Wal-Mart. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Roselawn Cemetery in Benson by the Rev. Glenn McCullen. 3 Dallas Carlyle McKinney October 10, 2002 Mr. Carlyle McKinney, 77, of Lillington, a native of Harnett Co., died at Good Hope Hospital in Erwin on Tuesday, Oct. 8, Mr. McKinney was a Prisoner of War during WW II, being captured when troops landed in Normandy. He was held for 17 months in a concentration camp before being released. Among other awards, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart. For over 28 years, Mr. and Mrs. McKinney helped to raise a host of foster children. Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, Calvary Baptist Church in Lillington with Rev. Robert Ivey and Rev. Earl Dean Cobb, Sr. October 8, 1997 OXFORD - Mr. Earl Dean Cobb Sr., 66, a resident of 1101 Williamsboro St., died Sunday, October 5, 1997 at Durham Regional Hospital. He was a native of Harnett Co. and was the son of the late Leonard and Bythia Gregory Cobb. He was a supervisor for Pine State Creamery for 42 years and was a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army having served during the post war in Germany. He attended Tabbs Creek Baptist Church. He coached Little League Baseball for the City of Oxford for over 20 years and was a collector of model trains. Funeral service will be held Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at the Tabbs Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Lemar Wheeler and the Rev. Donnie Perkinson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. 5 Fula Mae Stevens Cobb Salisbury Post 02/13/2001 KANNAPOLIS - The funeral is today for Fula Mae Stevens Cobb, 86, Greensboro, formerly of Kannapolis, who died Tuesday (Dec. 11, 2001) at Moses Cone Health System. Born July 12, 1915, in Johnston County, Mrs. Cobb was a daughter of the late Talbert and Nellie Mae Medlin Stevens. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. Survivors include son Mack Cobb, Greensboro; brothers Max Stevens, Arizona, and Jackie Stevens, Concord; sister Shirley Grass, Kannapolis; two grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. He was born on September 7, 1917 in Angier. He was former Deputy Sheriff of Johnston County, a "Yellow Dog Democrat" and a loyal Yankee Baseball fan who treasured his friends and their friendship. He was the "Ultimate Salesman". Everything he sold, horses, mules, cows, dogs and guns was the "best one he had ever seen." He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Adams and a daughter, Karen Stone. Survivors include: daughter, Gwenda Matthiae and husband, Ralph of Clayton; three sons, Gary Cobb and wife, Peggy of Clayton, David Cobb and wife, Jackie of Clayton, Andy and wife, Ann of Maryland; six grandchildren, Dean Laney of Hawaii, Lee McGee of Florida, Bradley Keith Stone and John Stone, both of Virginia, Grayson and Quincy Cobb, both of Maryland. He is survived by two sisters, Vada Smith of Angier, Mildred Ragsdale of Fuquay-Varina; brother, Tyson Cobb of Angier. The family will receive on Wednesday night from 7-8:30 p.m. at McLaurin Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Maplewood Cemetery. 6 Joseph Baxton Pollard, Sr. April 21, 2000 ERWIN -- J. Baxton Pollard Sr. of 210 E. I St. died Thursday in his home. The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Erwin First Baptist Church. Laura Esther Cobb Barbour June 27, 1997 Mrs. Laura Esther Barbour, 94, 599 Federal Road, died Wednesday night at Britthaven of Smithfield. Mrs. Barbour was born August 13, 1902 to David Almon and Helen Stancil Cobb. She was a member of St. Mary's Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Mrs. Barbour was predeceased by her husband, Williard Ezra Barbour and her son Willard Cleon Barbour. He was born Nov. 13, 1922 to the late Yancy and Mary Cobb Partin. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Blanche G. Partin, sisters, Janice P. Butler, Reba P. Thornton and a brother Alonzo Partin.

7 He was the eldest of nine children. His early years were spent helping his parents on their farm near Angier. He graduated form Angier High School in In 1942 he served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a 3rd Class Steam Engineer. In 1948 he purchased a country store and he and his wife operated the store for 32 years on Route 3, Dunn. He was a rural mail carrier for 26 years. He loved God, family and friends. Leo was good husband, neighbor and friend. He was a member of Lee s Grove PFWB Church and served as a deacon for years. He was a member of Mary Stewart Lions Club and held many positions through the years. He was presented "The Melvin Jones Fellowship Award". It is the highest honor a Lion can receive. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing as long as his health permitted. A funeral service will be held Sunday at 3 P.M. at Lee s Gove PFWB Church by Rev. Randy Beasley. Burial will follow in Devotional Gardens. He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Partin of Dunn, two stepsons, Jack D. Faircloth, Jr. and wife Anita of Dunn, Scott L. Mrs. Cobb was born August , in Johnston County to Iva Norris Glover of Benson and the late Herbert Glover. She was a secretary with the State of North Carolina Social Services. A native of Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late Allison and Lizzie King Cobb. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Carlyle McKinney. She and her husband spent 25 years as foster parents to more than 200 children.
