Box 1404 Mason, TX Cell: arcwade@gmail.com Open Hearts Open Minds 2014 Is Here! I just want to take a moment to thank the people of Hilda United Methodist Church. I've been a part of this church for over sixteen years in some way, and pastor for about three years. In that time I have seen the church attendance go up and down. I have seen times in which it seemed as though the church would surely close in the near future, and times when we've experienced unprecedented growth. I believe through the good and hard times, the thing that has brought this little country church to where it is today is faith. Through each season, faith that God would lead and provide this community with what was necessary to carry out the great commission of making disciples of Jesus Christ, is what has brought favor upon this church. I have seen the Lord work in so many ways, that it almost makes me dizzy to try to put words to the provisions that He has shared. There have been gifts to the church that seemingly come out of nowhere at just the right time. There has been a trend of increased giving from those in the pews week after week. We have been granted the gift of divine generosity through the work that the Holy Spirit has put in the hearts of each and every person that comes in contact with the Hilda United Methodist Church. My resolution for 2014 is to explore and be more open to recognizing the work that God is doing among us in ways that may not be evident through ordinary senses. Yes, it's easy to see that we have been blessed with a new fellowship hall, and that attendance is steady, and even that the church has taken on more service projects. But in 2014, I am committed to exercising the part of me that connects with Christ on a level that I may not be able to explain or put into words... 2 Page 2 Hilda Herald UNITED METHODIST WOMEN A fun time was had by all ~ we found out who our secret pals had been for 2013, unwrapped our gifts, wrapped gifts for the Angel Tree and ate a lot of really good food!! THANKS to Suzanne Brantley for our inspiring Christmas devotional! Hilda UMW The Hilda UMW met on Tuesday, December 10th in Fellowship Hall. Rev. Suzanne Brantley gave our Christmas devotional and we were happy to have her and Judy Holik as our guests! Everyone brought a dish to share for our brunch and it was delicious. Gifts were exchanged and our secret pals for 2013 were revealed. After the program, brunch, and a short meeting, we wrapped Christmas gifts for the Angel tree recipients. A wonderful time was had by all who attended. Our first meeting of the New Year will be on Tuesday, January 10:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Jan Appleby is program leader and hostess is Dian Willmann. The program title is: Call to Prayer & Self-Denial: Sound Foundations: Sound Missions. The word is PRAYER. Gifts we wrapped for the Angel Tree in Mason - all were for children MARTHA CIRCLE Martha Circle raised money for 30+ coats for kids for the CASA group as well as for children in the Mason ISD. Thanks to all who contributed to this most worthy cause! LOWE S MKT RECEIPTS Please start saving your Lowe s Market grocery receipts to benefit the MISD. We ll have a box in the church foyer & in Fellowship Hall. THANKS! 2

4 CHOIR PRACTICE Following the 11:00 worship service ~ Lunch provided after practice. Your best music is still inside you. The only way for us to have long-term happiness and success is to live by our highest principles, to consistently act in accordance with what we believe our life is in fact about. That music you hear inside you motivating you to take risks and follow your dreams is your instinctive calling to the true purpose in your heart and mind. Don t ignore it. Be enthusiastic about all that you do, and the possibilities that lie ahead. Have the courage to pursue your calling. Don t die with your music still in you. 8 FELLOWSHIP HALL UPDATE ~ WONDERFUL NEWS! ALL of the appliances have been bought and paid for by many generous donors - some are in memory of a loved one and some are in honor of someone. The appliances, as well as the tables and chairs are scheduled to be delivered on Friday, January 3rd from Lowes in Kerrville. Our heartfelt thanks to the many contributors who have made donations to the building fund also! I hope to have a financial update in the February Hilda Herald. Sorry I don t have interior photos, but the building was locked when I went to take photos. Be sure and go check it out! The floors are beautiful (but a bit slippery I understand, so be careful)! The ceiling is completed and looks great as do the walls and trim. Now for a little landscaping! JANUARY COMPUTER CLASSES AT THE LIBRARY DAY CLASS Computer Basics I: Thurs., Jan. 9 10:00-11:30 A.M. FRIENDS of the LIBRARY SPANISH to ENGLISH CLASSES Every week starting on Thursday, February 6:00 p.m. Mason County Library Stribling Room. We would love to have volunteers to teach (detailed lessons are always provided). If you know of someone interested in taking the class, please let them know. (Good babysitting is provided at the library). We accept all levels of need from speaking little or no English to speaking fairly well. Lessons are tailored to the students needs. During this past fall, Hilda volunteers included Rosemary Davis, Kay Hudler, Dian Willmann, Pat Tucker, Carol Sattler and Nanci Gibbons. We can answer any questions that people may have. In addition the Hilda UMW donated $100 for notebooks for the students so Hilda has really stepped up in this effort! 8
