1 Non-Profit Org. U.S. Postage PAID Permit No. 12 Piedmont, Alabama It Only Takes A Spark! July Newsletter 2012 "It only takes a spark to get a fire going, and soon all those around can warm up in its glowing..." Thus begins the popular Christian song, "Pass It On." This song is a favorite of mine, as well as many youth workers, youth, and others. Possibly, its popularity is due to its praise of God's love and its call to "pass it on." When I was a youth, I once sat in a circle as a group of PIEDMONT FIRST UNITED METHODIST NEWS July 2012 adults placed their hands on me and sang this song-- what an awesome experience! That was the very first moment in which I began to sense God calling me into ministry. As Christians, we are called to share the love of God (which we have experienced) with others. This is a task that we should assume joyfully, but we can't always do it alone. Sure, we have the help of the Holy Spirit, but so much more is possible when we work together! 1 Corinthians 12:12-26 speaks of our being a part of the Body of Christ. A body has many parts working together. Without any one of these parts, the whole body suffers. So it is with the Body of Christ, the Church. As the song says, "It only takes a spark to get a fire going..." A fire quickly dies without logs to build up the flame. But as logs are thrown onto the fire, it blazes, giving light and warmth. Summer is a time in which it s easy to let our church attendance slide. There are so many activities that pull at us and keep us from church activities. While it s good to get away and take advantage of all the warm weather opportunities, if we are not careful, we ve missed a month of Sundays and the fire in our hearts and lives can begin to go out. Let us commit ourselves to cast our logs onto the fire and joyfully be in ministry together for our Lord Jesus Christ. First United Methodist Church P.O. Box 268 Piedmont, AL Address Service Requested Return Service Requested I am pleased to see members working together on various ministries. I am especially encouraged by the excitement that people are talking about. The possibilities are boundless as we allow God to work in and through us. Cast your log on the fire and see what God does through Piedmont FUMC! In Christ s Love, Bro. Ron P.S. Thank you for the warm welcome that I have received since coming to Piedmont FUMC. Your graciousness has been a great blessing to me. I appreciate it so much.

6 NORTH ALABAMA CONFERENCE DISASTER RELIEF Our church has been asked to participate in a mission to help replenish the North Alabama Disaster Warehouse. This warehouse is located in Decatur, Alabama, but serves the conference as a storage center for disaster relief materials to be quickly sent to areas within the United States when the need arises. Rev. Ray Crum is the Director of the warehouse, and he reports that the shipment to Florida following hurricane Debby just about depleted our present stock of cleaning buckets. He adds, If your congregation would like to help us restock our supplies, so we can be ready for the next storm, it would be greatly appreciated! We are in the hurricane and tornado season in Alabama at this time. A supply list follows on the opposite page. The warehouse has a large supply of the cleaning buckets, so we are only asking our congregation for the needed supplies. Others will take care of assembling the cleaning buckets. Please bring your items to the TAC, and we will see that they are delivered to the collection centers located in Decatur and Birmingham. Important Notes: All items must be new All cleaning agents must be liquid and in plas c containers. No powders please. If you cannot find the requested size of a liquid item, use a smaller size. (Including larger sizes of any item will prevent the lid from sealing when buckets are packed.) Cleaning buckets are only used within the United States. CASH MAY BE GIVEN, but please enclose an envelope, and mark for Disaster Relief Cleaning Buckets. THANK YOU!
