I was diagnosed with several long-term ailments, my mother came to live with us, and we were in the midst Your of Friend difficult on developmental The Journey, stages with our children. Pastor Kipp We had to enter what we call survival mode where we do not try to control things, but just trust God and survive. Piedmont First United Methodist Church Life is filled with ebbs and flows. Some times in life are perfect for trying to conquer the world, the yard, the housework, etc. Some times in life can only be survived. It is in these times, that we just hold on and trust God. Attempting to accomplish much more pushes one over the edge. At the end of the book of St. John, Jesus reinstates Peter. In the midst of this conversation, Peter inquires of Jesus about the status of another of the disciples. "Lord, what about him? Jesus said to him, "If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? Follow me!" It is a curious conversation coming right at the time that the focus should be on Peter s life and Peter changes the subject. Jesus seems to say, Stay on task. Don t worry about what you can t control. Follow me. I pray that you are learning to enjoy both the ebbs and flows of life and are learning to trust God in both of these extremes. Not trusting God and trying to control what is not ours to control leads to worry, stress, and anxiety and it really accomplishes nothing. We find life s balance when we experience the centered rest in God that happens when let go of the controls, manage only what is in our domain, and trust the rest to God.
